Choose AFK Arena if learning the roster is the point
AFK Arena is not necessarily difficult; it simply places more of the fun in understanding heroes, factions, and combinations. Pick it when you enjoy comparing abilities, assembling a team around a theme or synergy, and gradually learning a world with many systems. A player who likes that process may find AFK Arena more rewarding than a simpler first hour, even if the initial vocabulary is larger.

Because events and cooperative modes sit alongside the campaign, a hero that is mediocre in one activity may still be useful elsewhere. Avoid deleting or dismissing a character solely because it is not ideal for your current stage; first check whether another mode or faction combination gives it value.
