Mitchell Chaffee scored three goals in his first game in the New York Islanders organization, leading the Hamilton Hammers to a 5-2 win over the Belleville Senators on Friday, October 2, 2026. Chaffee makes an immediate impact in his Islanders debut
Chaffee’s hat trick headlined Hamilton’s season-opening victory. It was his first game in the Islanders organization, making the three-goal performance a notable start with his new club.
CBS Sports reported the hat trick and 5-2 result on October 2, 2026. RotoWire likewise noted that Chaffee had been better than a point per game with AHL Syracuse in 2025-26. That prior-season description provides context for his scoring résumé, but one opener does not establish what his production will be over the season.
A first win for the Hamilton Hammers
The game also marked a new chapter for the franchise: Hamilton’s first AHL game as the Hammers, following its move from Bridgeport and rebrand. The team’s official site lists Chaffee on its roster and names the New York Islanders as its NHL affiliate.
