How does one-screen co-op work?

Xbox Wire’s Gamescom 2026 report describes this shared-screen setup and says couch co-op players can open mini inventory menus simultaneously, so one player can sort gear while the others continue managing theirs.
The official launch announcement says Minecraft Dungeons II supports up to four players in online or couch co-op. For Xbox specifically, the Microsoft Store listing gives the local co-op range as 2–4 players. That Xbox listing is the clearest platform-specific confirmation; the launch announcement does not provide local player counts for every platform.
How to start local co-op
The official sources cited here confirm couch co-op but do not give the button presses or menus for adding a second controller, choosing local profiles, or joining from the title screen. Those details may depend on your platform, so use the in-game prompts and check your system’s controller and account requirements rather than relying on an unverified sequence.

Check the listing and instructions for your specific system before assuming that its controller or account setup matches Xbox.

Can local and online players join the same session?
Yes. Design director Laura de Llorens said in the official Xbox podcast that the sequel lets players mix couch co-op and online play—for example, local friends can play alongside friends elsewhere. Her interview does not specify how many local players can be included in a mixed session, so do not assume a particular local-and-remote combination beyond the game-wide limit of up to four players.
