KB5058502 is a May 27, 2025 preview update for Windows 11 22H2 Enterprise and Education editions and for every edition of Windows 11 23H2. It brings several newer Windows experiences—including expanded Copilot controls, updated Search behavior, an About-page FAQ, taskbar policy changes and a File Explorer sharing tray—to those older releases. Microsoft says many of the features are delivered gradually, so installing the update does not guarantee that every change will appear immediately.

KB5058502 is not a Windows 11 version 24H2 update. The Release Preview announcement on May 15, 2025 identified build 22631.5409 for version 23H2; the later support entry lists the 22631.5413 and 22621.5413 builds above.
To check your release, press Windows key + R, enter winver, and select OK. Confirm both the version and edition before troubleshooting an update that does not appear.
What new features does KB5058502 add?
Configurable Copilot shortcuts and press-to-talk
On supported devices, Windows key + C opens Copilot. You can personalize the Copilot key and the Windows key + C behavior at Settings > Personalization > Text input. Holding the Copilot key or Windows key + C for two seconds starts press-to-talk. Alt + Spacebar provides another voice-interaction option.

These controls change how the existing keys behave; the update does not require a dedicated physical keyboard because the Copilot key and shortcut experience can be configured in Windows.
More discoverable Windows Search
Windows Search receives discoverability improvements. For devices in the European Economic Area (EEA), Microsoft also adds support for web-search providers, so the available provider behavior can differ from that on devices elsewhere.
An FAQ in the About page
Settings adds an FAQ section at Settings > System > About. Microsoft describes questions covering Windows setup, performance and compatibility, giving users a central place to find those explanations.
Taskbar policies that respect user unpinning
Administrators can use the taskbar policy’s PinGeneration option to let users unpin selected applications without having those applications automatically pinned again at the next policy refresh. This is relevant to managed PCs where a centrally configured taskbar otherwise restores pinned apps.
Customizable lock-screen weather in the EEA
On devices in the EEA, the lock-screen weather widget becomes customizable. Availability is therefore tied to both the device’s region and Microsoft’s gradual feature rollout.

A top-of-screen tray when sharing local files
When you drag a local file from File Explorer or the desktop, Windows can display a tray at the top of the screen. The tray suggests applications and provides access to the Windows share window, reducing the steps needed to send the file to another app or person.
Fixes included in the preview update
Microsoft’s release notes list fixes across Windows components rather than a single headline defect:
- A SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION blue-screen error.
- HoloLens photo-saving problems and Mixed Reality Capture issues.
- Increasing memory use by the Input Service.
- Explorer and Start menu failures on devices connected to an Azure Active Directory (AAD) account.
- A Windows Update service failure when Windows 11 22H2 or 23H2 devices attempted to obtain Windows 11 24H2 through Windows Server Update Services (WSUS).
These are fixes identified in Microsoft’s preview release notes; the notes do not establish that every installation experienced each problem.
Why the features may not appear after installation
Microsoft labels the feature changes as a gradual rollout. In practice, two eligible PCs on the same build can receive different feature timing. Region-specific items, especially EEA web-search-provider support and lock-screen weather customization, also depend on location. A missing feature immediately after the restart is therefore not proof that the update failed.

- Open Settings.
- Go to Update & Security > Windows Update.
- Open Optional updates available.
- Select the KB5058502 package for your Windows version and choose Download and install.
- Restart when Windows requests it, then check Settings > System > About or run
winverto verify the build.
Because this is a dated preview release, the optional-update listing may no longer be presented as a new offer. Microsoft also provided a standalone package through the Microsoft Update Catalog. Match the package to the correct 22H2 or 23H2 architecture and edition before installing it manually.
For organizations using Windows Update for Business, Microsoft’s release entry said the changes would be included in the next security update. Administrators should use their normal approval and deployment process rather than treating the preview package as mandatory.

Microsoft documented unclear or blurry Chinese, Japanese and Korean text at 96 DPI (100% display scaling) in Chromium-based browsers, including Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome. Increasing Windows display scaling improves clarity. Microsoft also said it shared its findings and possible solutions with Google.
To try the documented workaround, open Settings > System > Display > Scale and choose a value above 100%, then reopen the affected browser. The trade-off is that larger scaling makes interface elements and text occupy more screen space.
