Microsoft’s public information points to two separate developments: an operating datacentre at Grange Castle in Dublin and a planned datacentre in County Kildare. A planning-register entry also records a Grange Castle proposal for two facilities, DUB14 and DUB15, with an extension of permission granted on 21 July 2026. The available records do not establish that the Kildare plan and the DUB14/DUB15 project are the same development.

What Microsoft has confirmed about Ireland

Microsoft’s Ireland community page identifies Grange Castle, Dublin, as the location of a datacentre it operates and says, “We are planning a datacentre in County Kildare.” The page does not give application details or a project schedule for the Kildare plan.

Separately, a planning-register summary describes a Grange Castle proposal for facilities named DUB14 and DUB15. Because the Microsoft page names Kildare while the register entry concerns Dublin, the sources do not show that these are one project. They should be treated as distinct references unless an underlying announcement or council file connects them.

What the DUB14 and DUB15 planning record says

The planning-register entry places the proposal at Grange Castle Business Park, Nangor Road, Clondalkin, Dublin 22. Its summary describes two two-storey data centres with mezzanines and a central administration building ranging from one to four storeys.

The register reports that an extension-of-duration application for this permission was granted on 21 July 2026. That is a dated planning-status detail for the Grange Castle record; it does not establish the status or timetable of the separate Kildare plan. The summary is not a substitute for the council’s full application file.

What is known about jobs and construction

Microsoft’s October 2025 Ireland fact sheet says its Grange Castle facilities employed approximately 400 people as of 2025.

The same fact sheet estimates that a typical new datacentre build would require 350 construction roles and approximately 2.2 million work hours. These are Microsoft’s estimates for a typical build, not confirmed forecasts for the Kildare plan or the DUB14/DUB15 proposal.

What the generator application does—and does not—show

A separate planning-register record says an application for 13 temporary replacement generators for DUB15 was refused on 26 November 2024. The proposal was described as a way to operate the data hall until a permitted Gas Networks Ireland skid was constructed and operational. The record does not establish what power arrangement currently serves the site or what ultimately happened with the proposed infrastructure.

How to read the two project references

Reference Site and source Status detail established
Microsoft’s planned datacentre County Kildare; Microsoft Ireland community page Microsoft states that it is planning a datacentre; the page gives no application particulars.
DUB14 and DUB15 Grange Castle, Dublin; planning-register summary An extension of permission was granted on 21 July 2026. The summary describes two data centres and a central administration building.

These entries differ by location and source type, and the evidence does not tie their identities or schedules together. The clearest confirmed Dublin planning detail is therefore specific to Grange Castle; the Kildare reference remains a separate Microsoft statement of intent.
