Microsoft’s 2024 Bing Sweepstakes Offered a $1 Million Prize — Is It Still Open?

Yes—the $1 million Bing giveaway was real, but it was a Microsoft Rewards sweepstakes that closed on December 31, 2024. The promotion offered a free entry and additional chances for Bing-related activities; it is not a current way to win money. Microsoft later ran a separate 2026 prize promotion, which has also ended.

Was Microsoft’s $1 million Bing giveaway real?

Yes. Microsoft announced the 2024 Microsoft Rewards Ultimate Giveaway, and its official rules set out the sweepstakes terms. The promotion offered one $1,000,000 cash grand prize. HotHardware’s November 5, 2024 report said it also offered ten $10,000 secondary prizes. The campaign closed December 31, 2024, so it should be treated as a past promotion, not an active offer. Microsoft’s announcement and the official rules are the relevant references for the campaign.

How did entry work?

People in the eligible locations needed a Microsoft account: they could sign in or create one, then claim a free sweepstakes entry. Microsoft said participants could earn up to 200 entries during the promotion. Bonus opportunities included setting Bing as the default search engine, installing the Bing app, sharing a referral link, and completing other eligible activities. Entries could take up to 72 hours to appear, according to HotHardware’s contemporaneous report.

The official rules specified one entry per day for eligible Bing searches when Bing was set as the default search engine. The rules—not a social post or referral page—governed eligibility, entry limits, and prize conditions.

Who could enter, and what was the prize?

Microsoft’s October 2024 announcement named the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, and Germany as eligible locations. The top prize was $1,000,000 in cash. Under the official rules, the grand prize was to be paid by wire transfer to a qualified bank account in the winner’s name. HotHardware reported ten additional $10,000 prizes; consult the official rules for the controlling terms and any eligibility conditions.

Is Microsoft’s Bing million-dollar promotion still open?

No. The 2024 Ultimate Giveaway ended December 31, 2024. Microsoft also ran a different promotion, Total Prize Drop, from March 12, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. Pacific time through May 21, 2026, at 11:59:59 p.m. Pacific time. That later campaign also closed before October 1, 2026, the date of the available campaign information.

The 2026 Total Prize Drop was not an extension of the 2024 giveaway. Microsoft’s FAQ for the later campaign listed one $1,000,000 cash grand prize, three first-place Mercedes-Benz prizes, and daily instant-win opportunities. Its FAQ said a daily chance required one Bing search with Bing set as the default search engine. Those terms belong to that campaign and should not be applied to the 2024 sweepstakes.

Why did Microsoft offer a Bing prize?

The 2024 sweepstakes was a user-acquisition promotion designed to encourage Bing searches and Microsoft Rewards activity. HotHardware framed the offer against search-share figures it attributed to StatCounter: Google at 89.33% and Bing at 4.15% in 2024. Those are figures as reported by HotHardware, not independently rechecked here, and they do not change the sweepstakes rules.

How to assess a message claiming the giveaway is open

• Check Microsoft’s current promotion page and official rules before entering; an old announcement, referral link, or social post does not establish that a campaign remains open.
• Match the campaign name and dates. The 2024 Ultimate Giveaway and 2026 Total Prize Drop were separate promotions with different terms.
• Do not treat a request for payment or sensitive account details from an unofficial message as an entry requirement. The 2024 official rules describe a cash prize paid to a qualified bank account in the winner’s name, not a fee to claim entry.
