Microsoft lists Visual Studio 2013 as out of support: its product-specific lifecycle page gives April 10, 2024 as the end of extended support. That is an end-of-support milestone, not a notice that an installed copy will stop launching.
When did Visual Studio 2013 support end?
Microsoft’s product-specific Visual Studio 2013 lifecycle page records a release start date of January 15, 2014, mainstream support ending April 10, 2019, and extended support ending April 10, 2024. Microsoft notes that the dates on this lifecycle page are shown in Pacific Time.
There is a one-day discrepancy in Microsoft’s records: its 2024 end-of-support roundup lists Visual Studio 2013 under April 9, 2024. For the product’s lifecycle date, the product-specific page says April 10; the annual roundup says April 9.
What does end of support mean?
Microsoft’s end-of-support overview says: “Once a product reaches the end of support, or a service retires, there will be no new security updates, non-security updates, or assisted support.” That describes the support Microsoft provides. It does not say that an installed Visual Studio 2013 copy will immediately stop working.

Those supported releases are possible destinations, not a guarantee that a particular older project will work unchanged. Before choosing one, check:
- Whether the project’s framework and other dependencies are supported by the target release.
- The operating system and build environment required for development and deployment.
- Whether required extensions and workloads are available.
- Whether the edition and licensing meet the project’s needs.
- The target release’s current lifecycle and support horizon.
Microsoft’s general servicing and compatibility pages do not certify an individual legacy project’s compatibility, so validate the project and its build process in the intended environment.
