Microsoft Teams is preparing to surface synthetic audio and video detection results from certified third-party providers during meetings. Microsoft’s roadmap describes the provider as the party that performs the detection. Teams supplies the integration and the in-meeting experience for showing and acting on the signals it receives. As of October 7, 2026, the feature was listed as in development, with general availability targeted for November 2026. That is a roadmap target, not a confirmed release date.
What Microsoft has announced
The feature appears on Microsoft 365 roadmap item 573451, titled “Third-party synthetic audio and video detection in Microsoft Teams.” Microsoft published the item on October 2, 2026 and last updated it on October 7, 2026. The listed platforms are desktop, Mac, and web, for the Worldwide (Standard Multi-Tenant) cloud. BleepingComputer reported on the roadmap item on October 8, 2026, but the Microsoft roadmap entry is the primary source for the details above.
The roadmap makes one distinction that matters more than any other. In Microsoft’s words: “Important: Synthetic media detection is performed by the third-party provider.” Microsoft adds that “Microsoft Teams provides the platform integration and experiences for surfacing and acting on detection signals from supported providers.”
So the headline should be read carefully. Teams support here means interoperability and user-facing controls. It does not mean Microsoft built or operates a deepfake detection model.

Who does what
The division of labor is easiest to see side by side.
| Task | Certified third-party provider | Microsoft Teams |
|---|---|---|
| Analyzing meeting audio and video for synthetic or manipulated content | Yes. Microsoft states the detection is performed by the provider. | No detection is performed by Teams, according to the roadmap wording. |
| Sending detection signals into a meeting | Yes, through the Graph beta operation described below. | Receives the signals and propagates them to participants. |
| Displaying signals and enabling actions in the meeting | Not stated. | Yes. Microsoft describes Teams as providing the in-meeting experiences for surfacing and acting on signals. |
| Measured detection accuracy and false-positive rates | Not stated in the materials Microsoft has published so far. | Not stated. |
How the integration is expected to work
Microsoft Graph beta documentation describes a reportSyntheticMedia action for a participant in a meeting call. The action is intended for certified third-party audio and video synthetic-media detection bots that have been admitted to that call. Based on that documentation, the flow would look like this:

- With a 78° fixed field of view, the C920e webcam displays individual users in a well-balanced frame, while also providing sufficient room to visually share projects and other items of interest.
- The C920e webcam features two integrated omnidirectional microphones that capture your audio clearly from up to one meter away, so your voice always sounds natural and clear.
- Built-in HD autofocus ensures you’re seen clearly throughout your video calls. With automatic light correction, C920e delivers optics that help you look good in all your video meetings.
- The C920e webcam features an attachable privacy screen that flips up and down to cover or expose the lens. A simple glance at the cover confirms if the lens is able to see into your space or not.
- The C920e webcam is certified for Zoom, TAA compliant and works with all popular video calling applications such as Microsoft Teams to ensure compatibility and seamless integration in the workplace.
- A certified detection bot joins the call. The bot has to be admitted to the meeting before it can report anything. How admission is granted, and whether participants or organizers must consent, is not described in the materials available.
- The bot analyzes participant media. The documentation does not say whether analysis is continuous or runs on sampled segments.
- The bot reports a participant it flags as synthetic. It calls
reportSyntheticMediafor that participant. The report structure includes detection time, severity, confidence, modality, and model-task details. - Participants receive the result through roster updates. The documented propagation path is the meeting roster, not a separate notification channel.
The example values in Microsoft’s API documentation illustrate the data structure. They are not measured results. Do not read the sample confidence numbers as evidence of how any real detector performs.

What is not yet established
The roadmap refers to “certified third-party providers,” but the material Microsoft has published so far does not answer several questions an IT team would ask first:
- Provider roster. No providers are named, so there is no list of services available at launch.
- Certification criteria. The process for certifying a detection provider is not described.
- Licensing and tenant setup. No prerequisites, license requirements, or admin configuration steps are stated.
- Pricing and data handling. Costs, data retention, and processing location are not described.
- Launch behavior. Which controls administrators get, and how the feature looks to end users in the Teams client, is not specified.
Until Microsoft or the providers publish these details, any statement about which tools will work, what they cost, or how they are configured would be speculation.

Who to contact when a third-party bot misbehaves
Microsoft’s Teams Bot Identification Program documentation, last updated August 26, 2026, states that “Microsoft doesn’t provide direct support for ISV-owned bot solutions.” If a third-party bot causes a problem, the customer should contact the independent software vendor first. The ISV can involve Microsoft through partner support channels if needed.

That page covers ISV-owned bots in general. It is not a published support policy for detection providers specifically, and no such policy has been released for this feature yet. Organizations should confirm how support will work for a detection provider before relying on one in live meetings.

Questions to answer before adopting a provider
When Microsoft publishes the supported roster, an evaluation should cover at least the following:
- Which audio and video formats each provider analyzes, and whether analysis happens live or after the fact.
- What evidence and confidence information reaches participants, and whether it is explained in plain language.
- How false positives are reviewed and escalated, and who can clear a flag on a legitimate speaker.
- Meeting admission and consent requirements for a detection bot, including external guests.
- Data retention, processing location, and whether meeting media leaves the Microsoft 365 boundary.
- Tenant and administrator controls, including how a provider can be enabled or disabled.
- Platform coverage across desktop, Mac, and web, plus accessibility and language support.
- Commercial terms, including licensing and per-user or per-meeting pricing.
These are evaluation questions. None of them is a confirmed attribute of the planned feature.
Until the roster and admin documentation appear, the most useful step is to check the Microsoft 365 roadmap item 573451 for updates, and to keep existing meeting-security policies in place. A detection signal is an input to a human decision, not a verdict on whether a speaker is real.
Verify the status of roadmap item 573451 on the Microsoft 365 roadmap before planning rollout, since the November 2026 target can move.
The rollout timing matters less than the operational detail. Organizations that plan around a flagged participant, rather than around the feature’s existence, will be better prepared when it arrives.
