The Micron RealSSD P320h was a high-endurance enterprise PCIe SSD, not a conventional SATA drive. Its HHHL card used PCIe Gen2 x8 and Micron SLC NAND; Micron rated the 350 GB and 700 GB models for up to 3.2 GB/s sequential reads and 25 PB or 50 PB of total bytes written, respectively. Those are historical manufacturer specifications, not a promise of results from a particular workload or proof that a used card will work in a modern server.
What the P320h was
Micron introduced the RealSSD P320h as enterprise-class PCIe solid-state storage. Its launch announcement quoted Gary Gentry, then general manager of Micron’s enterprise division, NAND solutions group, calling it “a whole new category of enterprise-class storage.” That was promotional language; the useful distinction for a prospective reader is that the P320h connected over PCIe rather than through a standard SATA drive interface. Micron’s launch announcement.
The family included different physical variants. The HHHL card specification covers 350 GB and 700 GB capacities. Tom’s Hardware’s 2013 review also discusses a separate 2.5-inch PCIe version in 175 GB and 350 GB capacities. These formats are not interchangeable merely because both carry the P320h name; check the exact model and the host interface before considering one. Tom’s Hardware’s 2013 review.

Micron specified SLC NAND for the HHHL family. The card dimensions listed in the specification are 68.90 × 167.65 × 18.71 mm, and its operating temperature range is 0°C to +50°C. Those physical and thermal details matter when checking a chassis; neither should be taken as evidence that a particular server provides adequate clearance or airflow.
What the separate 2.5-inch PCIe version offered
Tom’s Hardware reported a 2.5-inch PCIe P320h variant at 175 GB and 350 GB, with up to 415,000 4 KB random-read IOPS and up to 1.75 GB/s sequential read. These figures belong to that variant as reported in the 2013 review, not the HHHL card’s specification. The review-era HHHL prices were $3,495 for 350 GB and $6,995 for 700 GB; they are historical launch-era prices, not current market values.

Endurance claims and the review’s measurement caveat
Micron’s specification rates the 350 GB HHHL model for 25 PB and the 700 GB model for 50 PB of total bytes written. These are manufacturer endurance ratings. Tom’s Hardware separately described an endurance experiment that wrote sequentially at queue depth 1 using 8 MB data, a test design intended to reduce variables such as wear leveling and garbage collection. Do not treat that test method as the source of Micron’s rating.
The review also noted an important limitation: Micron did not provide a SMART attribute for total data written. The reviewers therefore could not independently establish how much data had already been written to the test drive. For anyone evaluating a second-hand P320h, that means the cited review does not supply a trustworthy lifetime-write figure for an individual used card. Tom’s Hardware’s endurance article.

Compatibility: verify the exact host, not just the slot
Micron’s compatibility guide lists legacy ASUS server and workstation platforms tested with the P320h HHHL. It expressly cautions that hardware and software vary and that interoperability testing does not guarantee functionality. A listed legacy system is evidence of a tested configuration; it does not establish compatibility with an unlisted modern server. Micron’s P320h compatibility guide.

- Slot and lanes: confirm the system has a suitable PCIe connection and can provide the required lane configuration; a physically fitting slot alone does not prove electrical or firmware compatibility.
- Clearance and cooling: compare the HHHL card’s dimensions with the chassis and account for airflow around a device with a 25 W maximum active-power specification.
- Platform support: verify the host’s firmware, operating-system expectations, and boot or device-enumeration requirements with reliable documentation for that specific platform. The cited guide does not establish current firmware support.
- Used-drive condition: request whatever health and usage information the seller can substantiate. The cited review’s SMART limitation means it cannot verify a card’s prior total writes.
Verdict
The P320h’s HHHL specifications describe a fast, high-endurance PCIe SSD for its era: up to 3.2 GB/s reads, 1.9 GB/s writes, and vendor-rated endurance of 25 PB or 50 PB depending on capacity. Its appeal today is historical or for a carefully matched legacy system, not as a plug-and-play upgrade. The available evidence does not establish present inventory, used prices, current firmware support, or compatibility with modern hosts.
