Yes. MEXC is winding down services for users linked to the Netherlands in four batches, with the published process scheduled to finish on 31 October 2026. The decision follows a Dutch Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM) warning that MEXC was operating without the licence required to provide crypto-asset services in the country. MEXC’s own 29 September notice cites regulatory developments in the European Economic Area rather than explicitly saying “no MiCA licence.”
If your account is included, trading, deposits and other functions stop on the restriction date for your batch. Withdraw assets, close or manage positions, cancel orders and download records before the 23:59 UTC action deadline shown for your batch.
Is MEXC leaving the Netherlands?
MEXC has announced a Netherlands-specific wind-down for users identified through KYC information or other account data. The exchange published the notice on 29 September 2026 and divided affected accounts into four batches. Each batch has an action deadline, a restriction date and a planned completion date.
MEXC says the wind-down is driven by “regulatory developments in the European Economic Area (EEA).” The licence finding comes from the AFM, which warned on 24 September 2025 that MEXC was active in the Netherlands without the required authorisation and that the servicing legal entity was unclear.

Does MEXC have a MiCA licence?
The AFM said in its 2025 warning: “MEXC beschikt echter niet over een vergunning en biedt dus illegaal cryptoactivadiensten aan in Nederland” (“MEXC does not have a licence and is therefore illegally providing crypto-asset services in the Netherlands”). That is the basis for describing MEXC as lacking the required licence; MEXC’s wind-down notice does not itself use the exact phrase “no MiCA licence.”
MiCAR supervision began on 30 December 2024. The AFM says crypto-asset service providers must hold authorisation from the AFM or another EU regulator. ESMA stated that the EU transitional period expired on 1 July 2026 and that, after that date, a firm serving EU clients without a MiCA licence breaches EU law and must cease offering those services.
When do I need to withdraw from MEXC?
Find your account’s batch notice in MEXC communications and act by the corresponding deadline. The action deadline is 23:59 UTC; from the restriction date, deposits, trading and other listed functions are unavailable.
| Batch | Action by | Restrictions begin | Planned completion |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 22 August 2026 | 23 August 2026 | 27 August 2026 |
| 2 | 12 September 2026 | 13 September 2026 | 19 September 2026 |
| 3 | 3 October 2026 | 4 October 2026 | 10 October 2026 |
| 4 | 23 October 2026 | 24 October 2026 | 31 October 2026 |
As of 26 October 2026, the final batch is already in its restriction period and is scheduled for completion on 31 October. Do not assume the final date gives you another trading opportunity; functions may remain unavailable once restrictions start.
What should I do before my account is restricted?
- Cancel open orders. Review spot and other markets and remove orders that could otherwise remain unresolved.
- Close or manage positions. Check derivatives, margin and any leveraged exposure, including liquidation prices and collateral.
- Redeem eligible products. Exit savings, staking or other products where redemption is still available.
- Settle balances and loans. Review liabilities, collateral and repayment dates. MEXC says loans still outstanding at the stated settlement time may be force-settled through collateral and incur a 5% handling fee.
- Stop automated strategies. Terminate bots or recurring strategies that could place new orders after access is limited.
- Download records. Save transaction history, deposits, withdrawals, trade fills, fees, loan data and account statements for tax, accounting and dispute purposes.
- Withdraw assets. Send supported coins or tokens to a wallet or an authorised provider that accepts them, checking the network and destination address before confirming.
What happens to assets left on MEXC?
MEXC says remaining supported assets will be transferred to a regulated custodian after all four batches. The exchange has not yet named that custodian or published the final access process, so users should not treat the transfer as immediate access to a replacement trading account.

MEXC says unsupported assets may be converted to USDC. The notice does not establish the conversion rate, timing or any user choice over the conversion, so keep records of balances and monitor official account messages.
A transfer to a custodian is different from an automatic migration to another exchange. You may need a separate withdrawal or claim process once MEXC announces the custodian’s identity and instructions.

MEXC names Bybit EU and Kraken as optional transition providers. They are not automatic replacements: users must complete the chosen provider’s onboarding, pass any identity checks and arrange their own transfers. Product availability, supported assets, fees and eligibility depend on that provider and the regulations applying to your account.
Before opening an account, compare the factors that affect your specific use case:
- the provider’s MiCA authorisation and legal entity;
- whether services are available to residents of the Netherlands;
- custody arrangements, withdrawal limits and address controls;
- supported assets and networks;
- spot, derivatives or other products you actually need;
- trading, withdrawal and conversion fees;
- how deposits and account transfers are handled; and
- consumer-protection disclosures and complaint procedures.
Do not infer authorisation from a brand name, an app listing or an advertisement. A provider may offer different services in different EU countries.

How can I verify that a replacement provider is authorised?
Check the AFM register for crypto-asset service providers and ESMA’s Interim MiCA Register before sending funds. AFM explains that listed firms are authorised or notified for specified services. An unlisted firm may be unauthorised, although a pending application can also explain why a name is absent; confirm the status directly with the regulator and the provider’s stated legal entity.

What risks did the AFM identify?
The AFM described MEXC’s products as highly risky, said the servicing legal entity was unclear and warned that consumers could lose their entire deposit if the firm encountered financial problems. Those warnings are separate from the operational timetable: even if a withdrawal remains technically possible, delays, network errors or restrictions can make recovery harder.
Use a self-hosted wallet only if you can securely manage its seed phrase and transaction approvals. Losing those credentials can permanently prevent access, so moving funds away from MEXC also creates personal custody responsibilities.

Your practical deadline is the earlier of your batch’s 23:59 UTC action cutoff and the point at which you need a function that becomes restricted. Complete withdrawals and position management before that cutoff, retain evidence of every transfer and continue checking MEXC’s official notices for the custodian name and unsupported-asset process.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the AFM warning automatically cancel my previous MEXC trades?
The warning concerns MEXC’s authorisation to provide services in the Netherlands; it does not by itself adjudicate individual trade contracts or reverse completed transactions. Questions about tax, contractual rights or a disputed transaction require advice specific to your circumstances.
Is a regulated custodian the same as a replacement exchange?
No. A custodian may hold assets and provide a process for accessing or withdrawing them without offering the markets, order types or products you used on MEXC. Wait for the custodian’s published instructions before assuming you can trade there.
What should I keep for tax records after withdrawing?
Retain exported trade and transfer files, wallet addresses, timestamps, fees, conversion details and any statements showing balances before and after the move. Keep the files in their original format as well as a readable copy, because exchange interfaces may become unavailable after the wind-down.
Can a Netherlands-linked user keep using MEXC through another country?
Do not attempt to bypass the wind-down with inaccurate residence or identity information. Access, products and legality depend on the user’s real location, KYC data and applicable regulation; follow MEXC’s account instructions and use an authorised provider instead.
