What the Metro Redux update promises on consoles
Deep Silver describes the update as a way to improve the existing Redux releases for newer hardware, not as a remake or full remaster. The publisher says the original experience and aesthetic are preserved, with 4K textures, improved animation fidelity, higher-quality audio, richer environmental detail, community-led bug fixes, and quality-of-life improvements. Its console announcement also lists higher-quality lighting, shadows, and particle effects, along with hardware tessellation, runtime displacement, and power-saving features. For console play, Deep Silver advertises true 4K at 60 FPS and upscaled 4K at 120 FPS, with appropriate TV or monitor hardware required for the 120 FPS mode. The announcement does not say which individual consoles receive each mode, nor does it provide a model-by-model image-quality comparison. Treat the figures as announced targets until final patch notes and post-launch testing confirm availability and performance.

Deep Silver also lists Xbox Play Anywhere and Xbox Handheld support. These are platform and ecosystem features, not evidence that Xbox consoles deliver higher frame rates or better image quality. The publisher’s announcement does not establish that every advertised mode is available on every console model.
Which platform should you choose?
For performance, wait for direct comparisons of the released build. A fair test needs the same scenes on the same display conditions, with resolution, frame-time consistency, and image quality examined separately. None of those measured comparisons is available in the official sources as of October 3, 2026.

For image processing, the named distinction is PS5 Pro PSSR versus Xbox Series X TSR upscaling and anti-aliasing. The announcement alone cannot show which produces the sharper or more stable image; that requires matched captures or technical testing. It also does not give enough detail to compare PS5 with Xbox Series S on a like-for-like basis.
For controls and audio, choose according to the compatible features you value: Deep Silver names DualSense Adaptive Triggers for PS5 Pro, while it lists Impulse Triggers and Spatial Audio for Xbox platforms. Feature support does not establish a performance advantage.

Update date, cost, and ownership
PLAION says the console update is scheduled worldwide for October 29, 2026, with Japan scheduled for November. PC releases are scheduled for October 22 on Steam, Epic, and GOG; the Windows Store date is October 29. The update is free for existing owners. New players receive it automatically when purchasing Metro 2033 Redux and/or Metro: Last Light Redux. Switch is not included at this time. PLAION’s update FAQ
If you already own a supported version, you do not need to buy it again to get the update. If you are deciding where to buy, the meaningful comparison will be the released console build on your own platform and display setup, once the update is available.
