Are Metro 2033 Redux and Last Light Redux the same game?
No. They are separate entries in the series, each with its own Steam listing. The listings also offer a bundle containing both Redux games. Metro 2033 Redux on Steam is set in 2033 and follows Artyom on a mission through Moscow’s Metro and the wasteland above it. Metro: Last Light Redux on Steam is set in 2034 and centers on conflict among the Metro’s station-cities.

How do the games differ in feel?
Metro 2033 Redux
Steam describes Metro 2033 as a story-driven blend of survival horror, exploration, tactical combat, and stealth. Its Redux edition incorporates gameplay improvements from Last Light, including updates to AI, controls, animation, and weapon handling. It offers Survival and Spartan play styles, as well as Ranger Mode.
Metro: Last Light Redux
The official listing characterizes the original Last Light as more action-oriented, with a focus on stealth combat. Its Survival mode shifts the experience toward slower survival horror. The Redux edition includes previously released DLC and adds features such as melee animations, the ability to check your watch and ammunition supplies, and full-body player animations. It offers Survival and Spartan play styles and Ranger Mode, too.

These are the publisher’s descriptions of the games, not independently measured comparisons. Both Redux editions offer a Survival option, so choosing the sequel does not mean giving up that play style.

As of 4 October 2026, PLAION Player Support has announced a free Redux next-gen update for existing owners, with dates still in the future. Its FAQ lists PC for 22 October 2026 and Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro, and Windows Store for 29 October. Japan is listed for November, without a specific day in the announcement summarized here. The FAQ says Nintendo Switch is not included in this update.
