Meta has already launched display-equipped Ray-Ban smart glasses: Meta Ray-Ban Display was announced on September 17, 2025, and became available at selected U.S. retail locations on September 30, 2025. The product has a small full-color display in the right lens and comes with a wrist-worn Meta Neural Band for gesture control. Meta’s September 2026 lineup update announced other glasses, but did not confirm a second-generation display model.
What Meta Ray-Ban Display is
Meta Ray-Ban Display combines cameras, microphones, speakers, computing hardware and AI features in glasses with a display positioned to the side of the wearer’s view. Ray-Ban’s product listing specifies a 600-by-600-pixel full-color display in the right lens. The display is not continuously on; it presents information when needed rather than acting as a phone screen spread across the wearer’s vision.
Meta described the product as designed to help people “look up and stay present.” Its announcement also said, “This isn’t about strapping a phone to your face.” The display is one part of the system: the included Meta Neural Band provides another way to interact with it.
What you can see on the display
Meta says the display can show information and controls for everyday tasks, including:

These are glanceable overlays and task-specific views, not evidence that every phone app or feature runs on the glasses. Meta’s developer preview also describes information overlays, real-time data, micro-apps, utilities and streaming media. Developers can build with the native iOS and Android Device Access Toolkit or with web apps using HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
How the Meta Neural Band works
The bundled Meta Neural Band is an electromyography (EMG) wristband. It detects subtle muscle signals associated with finger and hand movements and translates them into commands such as scrolling and clicking. That lets a wearer interact without relying only on voice or touching the glasses. Meta says its surface-EMG work involved nearly 200,000 research participants; that figure describes the research effort, not the number of customers or a guarantee of gesture recognition accuracy.

Price, battery life and availability
Meta announced a $799 starting price for the glasses and Neural Band together. The company’s stated battery figures are up to six hours of mixed use for the glasses and up to 30 hours total with the charging case. These are manufacturer claims, not independent test results; actual runtime can vary with use.

Is Meta launching a newer display model?
Meta’s September 23, 2026 lineup update announced Ray-Ban Meta Audio and Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3. It did not announce a second-generation Ray-Ban Display, so those products should not be treated as confirmed successors to the display model.

The newer announcement broadens Meta’s smart-glasses lineup, but it does not establish that either new model includes the Display’s lens screen or Neural Band interaction. If a screen is essential, compare the specifications of the specific model being sold rather than assuming a higher generation number means it has a display.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Should you wait for Ray-Ban Display Gen 2?
There is no confirmed Gen 2 display model in the cited September 2026 announcement. If you want the display and its visual navigation, captions or glanceable AI features now, the existing Meta Ray-Ban Display is the relevant product. If you are deciding whether to wait for a successor, there is no official second-generation date or specification to compare against; a future release remains uncertain.
For buyers choosing among the announced products, focus on whether the exact model has a lens display, how it is controlled, its stated battery life and comfort, and whether it is sold in your market. The price difference alone does not establish which model is the better fit.
