On January 6, 2026, Meta said it was putting its early-2026 expansion on hold while it concentrated on U.S. orders. On September 23, Meta announced a phased return to international sales in Canada, the UK, France, Italy and Germany. Dates, cities and inventory differ by country, so the January delay is no longer the complete availability picture.
What Meta delayed in January 2026
Meta’s September 2025 launch plan named Canada, France, Italy and the UK as early-2026 expansion markets. The January 6 pause affected that international expansion—not the product itself or U.S. sales.
Meta said U.S. interest was overwhelming and inventory was limited. It also said U.S. waitlists extended well into 2026 and that it would prioritize fulfilling those orders while reassessing international availability. Those are Meta’s stated reasons; no independent figures establish the size of the waitlist, production capacity or sales volume.
How the rollout changed
| Market | Announcement and ordering status | Retail details | Prescription availability |
|---|---|---|---|
| United States | Online ordering announced as available September 23, 2026; inventory may vary. | U.S. sales had already begun at select retailers, including Best Buy, LensCrafters, Sunglass Hut and Ray-Ban Stores; Verizon stores were announced as a later addition. | Not stated in the cited announcements. |
| Canada | Online ordering and retail sales scheduled to begin September 23, 2026. | Vancouver and Toronto were named launch cities. | Not stated. |
| United Kingdom | Online ordering and retail sales scheduled to begin September 23, 2026. | London was named for retail sales. | Not stated. |
| France | Preorders were to begin progressively, with online ordering and selected retail sales from October 13, 2026. | Paris was named for selected retail sales. | Meta said prescription sales would begin October 13 through EssilorLuxottica optical retail. |
| Italy | Preorders were to begin progressively, with online ordering and selected retail sales from October 13, 2026. | Milan and Rome were named for selected retail sales. | Meta said prescription sales would begin October 13 through EssilorLuxottica optical retail. |
| Germany | Preorders were to begin progressively, with online ordering and selected retail sales from October 13, 2026. | Frankfurt, Hamburg and Munich were named for selected retail sales. | Meta said prescription availability was expected later in 2026. |
These dates were Meta’s September 23 announcement schedule. Because the timetable and stock are volatile, check Meta or Ray-Ban ordering pages for your country before travelling to a retailer or placing an order.

What the Ray-Ban Display glasses are
The product combines Ray-Ban-style frames with a full-color, high-resolution display built into one lens. Meta describes the screen as glanceable: it appears when needed and is otherwise unobtrusive.
Display features
- Message viewing and photo previews
- Live translation and captions
- Meta AI assistance
- Pedestrian navigation
- Calls and music controls
Meta Neural Band control
The package includes a Meta Neural Band wristband. It uses electromyography (EMG) signals associated with muscle activity and subtle finger movements to translate gestures into commands for the glasses. This band is part of the Display product bundle, rather than an optional accessory identified separately in the launch announcement.

How this product differs from Meta’s other glasses
Camera-only Meta Ray-Ban AI glasses
Meta’s camera-equipped Ray-Ban AI glasses do not have the in-lens display described for Ray-Ban Display. Display adds visual information and the bundled Neural Band to the camera-and-AI glasses concept.
Orion AR prototype
Orion is Meta’s augmented-reality prototype category, not the retail Ray-Ban Display product. Treating Orion demonstrations as specifications or availability promises for Ray-Ban Display would be inaccurate.

What the delay means for buyers
- In the U.S.: the January announcement did not cancel sales, but waitlists and inventory constraints could affect delivery.
- In Canada or the UK: Meta’s September schedule put online ordering and retail sales on September 23, 2026.
- In France, Italy or Germany: the announced schedule separates progressive preorders from October 13 ordering and selected retail sales.
- If you need prescription lenses: France and Italy had an October 13 optical-retail date; Germany was listed for later in 2026.
The safest way to confirm availability is to use the country-specific Meta or Ray-Ban store page and verify whether the frame, lens type and Neural Band bundle are actually in stock. The announcements do not provide an independent forecast for how quickly inventory will normalize.
