What is Edits Assistant?
Edits Assistant is a chat-based feature in Edits, Meta’s phone-based video creation app. It is not a separate editing app. According to Social Media Today’s September 30, 2026 coverage, users open it from the chat icon in Edits and ask questions in a conversational interface.
Meta describes it as a “creative partner that knows you and your audience.” The idea is to help creators interpret how their Instagram content is performing and identify possible next steps.
What information does it use, and what can it suggest?
Launch coverage says the assistant can draw on Instagram account metrics—including follows, views, video retention, likes and shares—along with comments, current Instagram trends and audience interests. Meta says it looks for patterns over time, which may help a creator consider what topics or formats to explore.

Does Edits Assistant make videos for you?
The feature is described as analyzing performance and offering recommendations or content ideas. The creator remains responsible for deciding what to make and how to make it. Brett Westervelt, Edits app lead, told TechCrunch on September 30, 2026: “One thing we heard consistently: creators want a tool that handles the analysis, not one that does the creative work for them.” He added, “The creative calls are still yours.”
In practical terms, treat its output as input for your own judgment. The available launch descriptions do not establish that the assistant will edit or generate a finished video for you.

Is Edits Assistant free, and do you need Meta One?
Launch reports describe Edits Assistant as free to use with a daily usage allowance. They also report that Meta One subscribers receive a higher allowance. The sources do not give an exact daily quota or establish whether the allowance varies by account or location, so check the feature’s current in-app terms rather than relying on an assumed number.

How do you open the assistant?
- Open Meta’s Edits app on your phone.
- Tap the chat icon to open Edits Assistant.
- Ask a conversational question about your account performance or possible content directions.
- Review any patterns or suggestions, then decide for yourself whether and how to use them.
Android Central’s October 1, 2026 launch summary also describes access through the chat icon. Availability may depend on rollout; the launch sources do not specify a complete geographic schedule.

What app and device does it require?
Edits is presented by Meta as a phone-based video creation app. Its April 22, 2025 announcement, updated December 17, 2025, described features including longer camera capture, clip-level editing, green-screen and transition effects, sharing to Instagram and Facebook, export options and data-driven insights. Those details provide context for the host app; they should not be read as a current specification of every Edits feature. See Meta’s Edits announcement.
No separate physical accessory is established as necessary to use Edits Assistant.
What is known—and still unclear—at launch?
