For a single devotional program produced on one computer, OBS Studio is usually the simpler starting point: it creates and encodes the program and can send it directly to YouTube Live. MediaMTX is a live media server and proxy, not a substitute for OBS’s scene-composition role. Add it when you need to relay, convert, record, play back, or forward streams. You can also run the program through both: OBS → MediaMTX → YouTube.
For a 24/7 channel, plan the archive separately: YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived, so a continuous stream that passes that threshold should not be expected to produce one complete automatic replay. The workflow below applies to channels in India as well as elsewhere; local upload capacity, power reliability, and data costs depend on your actual setup.
What OBS and MediaMTX each do
OBS produces the program
OBS Studio is the production and encoding end of this setup. Use it to assemble the devotional program—such as video, audio, and scenes—and send the resulting live feed to YouTube. For one workstation and one YouTube destination, a direct connection has fewer components to configure. YouTube’s encoder setup guide explains how to connect an encoder using the Live Control Room server URL and stream key.
MediaMTX routes and serves streams
MediaMTX is a live media server and proxy. Its documented functions include publishing and reading streams over multiple protocols, protocol conversion, recording and playback, authentication, forwarding, a control API, and Prometheus-compatible metrics. It runs on Linux, Windows, and macOS as a single executable. Those capabilities make it useful when a workflow needs server-side routing or operations; they do not make it a replacement for OBS’s program-production role. See the MediaMTX introduction.

Choose the simpler architecture that meets the need
| Need | OBS direct to YouTube | OBS through MediaMTX |
|---|---|---|
| One composed program from one workstation | Usually the simpler fit | Adds a relay that may not be needed |
| Protocol routing or conversion | Not the central reason to choose OBS | MediaMTX documents these capabilities |
| Forwarding a received feed to YouTube | Connect the encoder to YouTube | MediaMTX documents RTMP/RTMPS forwarding |
| Server-side recording and playback | Assess the recording needs of the OBS workflow | MediaMTX documents recording and playback |
| Multiple sources or distribution endpoints | OBS handles program production; destinations shape the architecture | Useful when a media server must route or serve streams |
| Day-to-day operations | Fewer components to configure | Requires server configuration, credentials, monitoring, and recovery planning |
These are architectural recommendations based on documented roles and features, not comparative performance or reliability test results. Start with OBS direct if it meets the channel’s needs; add MediaMTX to solve a specific routing, conversion, forwarding, or server-side recording requirement. Ability to mute audio, the audio mixer for streaming prevents background noise from damaging your live broadcast. Real-time feedback between speaking and hearing will not distract your attention, which encourage you to speak more confidently. The sturdy-built control button allow you to operate freely and easily during live streaming.
- [Sound Effects] The computer sound mixer supports four pre-recorded customized button that can be recorded and activated at the press of button to post production. 6 kinds of voice changing modes change your output style. 12 auto tune changes the tone of your voice. The podcast mixer being able to add different and fun effects is a huge bonus for your streaming or game voice.
- [Controllable Vibrant RGB] RGB button on the audio mixer DJ meets different live streaming themes. Lights on the video mixer is vibrant but not harsh on your eyes. Flowing or frozen RGB color rotation in a decent pace presents a greatly strong impression as a "light show" to your audience. Even a streaming equipment accessory will not be dull looking when video production.
- Prepare the OBS program. Set up the scenes and audio that make up the devotional stream. Confirm that the output contains both audio and video; MediaMTX’s documented YouTube-forwarding workflow requires both tracks.
- Run MediaMTX and configure a stream path. Choose and configure a path on the MediaMTX server to receive the OBS publication. Follow the current OBS publishing instructions for the chosen protocol and server configuration.
- Publish from OBS to MediaMTX. MediaMTX documents publishing from OBS using RTMP, with an RTMP URL and stream path; it also describes publishing by WHIP. Use the option supported by your setup and follow the corresponding instructions rather than guessing a URL.
- Configure MediaMTX to forward the feed to YouTube. Set up forwarding to YouTube using RTMP or RTMPS as described in the MediaMTX forwarding guide. For a straightforward YouTube setup, RTMPS is the recommended starting path because it encrypts the RTMP connection in transit.
- Copy the YouTube connection details into the forwarding configuration. In YouTube Live Control Room, use the server URL and stream key for the broadcast. Treat the key like a password: do not expose it in public configuration examples, and rotate it if it is exposed.
- Test before relying on the schedule. Confirm that the feed reaches the YouTube preview, that sound and picture are present, and that your recovery procedure works. Monitor the stream rather than assuming a successful initial connection guarantees an uninterrupted day.
YouTube’s current encoder guidance covers RTMP/RTMPS, H.264, H.265, and AV1, and lists bitrate ranges by codec, resolution, and frame rate. Choose an appropriate supported setting for the actual output and a bitrate the real upload connection can sustain; do not simply select the highest value shown. Check the current YouTube encoder settings when configuring the encoder, since technical recommendations can change.
Plan the 24/7 archive, testing, and monitoring
Do not rely on one complete automatic YouTube replay
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. A stream that continues beyond 12 hours should not be treated as one complete automatic replay. If a complete archive matters, consider planned shorter sessions or a separate recording workflow. MediaMTX documents recording to disk, but the right archive design depends on the channel’s goals and available storage. YouTube also recommends checking that local archive files are intact and growing. Sources: YouTube encoder setup, YouTube live streaming tips, and the MediaMTX introduction.

Test the actual installation
- Measure sustained upload capacity from the connection that will carry the broadcast and select settings it can maintain.
- Check the Live Control Room preview before starting the public stream.
- Listen to and watch the program during a test, including any transitions or changes in the playlist.
- Test the encoder failover or recovery procedure you intend to use.
- If recording locally, confirm that archive files are intact and continue growing.
- Monitor audio and video quality while the channel is live.
YouTube’s live streaming tips recommend testing and monitoring. No specific Indian ISP, cloud region, power-backup device, or upload speed is established as necessary here: those choices depend on the channel’s location and provider. Test from the real installation before committing to an always-on schedule.
Use RTMPS as the default starting point
YouTube recommends RTMPS, a secure extension of RTMP. HLS is also an ingestion option, including for certain codec or HDR workflows, but YouTube says its segmented delivery has higher latency than RTMP. Unless the channel has a specific HLS requirement, RTMPS is the simpler starting choice. See YouTube encoder settings and YouTube HLS setup.

Common problems and what to check
- YouTube does not receive the stream: verify the Live Control Room server URL and stream key, and check that MediaMTX forwarding is configured for the intended destination. If the key was exposed, rotate it.
- OBS publishes but the YouTube preview is missing: trace the path in order—OBS publication, MediaMTX receipt, then MediaMTX forwarding. Confirm the configured stream path and the forwarding settings against the official OBS publishing and forwarding guides.
- There is picture but no sound, or vice versa: check that OBS is sending both tracks. The documented MediaMTX YouTube-forwarding workflow requires audio and video.
- The stream drops or becomes unstable: test sustained upload capacity and lower the chosen bitrate or output settings if the real connection cannot maintain them. Check YouTube’s current codec- and resolution-specific encoder guidance.
- The automatic replay is incomplete or absent for a long broadcast: account for YouTube’s under-12-hour automatic archive threshold and use planned shorter sessions or a separate archive workflow if a complete recording is required.
