Marvel’s Wolverine has six Special Techniques, but you can equip only four at a time. There is no official best-to-worst ranking: the right loadout depends on whether you need crowd coverage, interruption, healing, defense-breaking, or an aggressive way to close distance. Here is what each move does and how to choose your four.
All six Special Techniques
PlayStation’s combat guide describes these six Techniques and their available upgrade effects. Its descriptions establish what the moves are designed to do, but do not provide comparative damage tests or a universal ranking.

| Technique | What it does | When to consider it |

| Tornado Spin | A high-damage, multi-hit spin that hits surrounding enemies and builds Rage. Upgrades can increase damage, break blocks, and interrupt attacks. | When surrounding enemies are the main problem; its described area coverage makes it a natural crowd-focused choice. |

Which four should you equip?
PlayStation does not name a best loadout. These suggestions are practical inferences from the moves’ documented functions, not tested rankings. Pick the tools that address the problems you encounter, then use the remaining slot or slots for your preferred style.
- For crowd coverage: Start with Tornado Spin, which explicitly hits surrounding enemies. Spiral Strike is another option when surrounded and trying to break through foes.
- For interruption and stagger: Consider Knee Breaker, whose stated purpose includes staggering an enemy and interrupting attacks.
- For added survivability: Consider Relentless when faster healing during a limited window would help you survive.
- For defense-breaking: Consider Brutal Assault, which PlayStation describes as breaking through enemy defenses.
- For an aggressive charge: Consider Overwhelm if charging in, tackling, and mounting an opponent suits your approach.
These roles do not establish that a move is best against a particular boss or enemy. The guide provides no quantified comparison of damage, cooldowns, or performance.

How equipping, unlocking, and upgrading work
The official guide says you can equip up to four Techniques. It describes unlocks as a mix of story progress and level requirements, but does not publish a complete unlock-level table. Technique Points are used to upgrade Technique effects.
A June 2, 2026 PlayStation Blog post described Rage building through successful attacks, parries, and kills. That pre-release explanation does not specify a precise post-launch recharge formula for Techniques, so it should not be treated as one.

Change how Special Techniques are activated
Insomniac’s accessibility support page lists a Special Techniques Mode that switches between Hold and Toggle. It also says shortcuts can be assigned for every Technique slot. Check the game’s control settings if holding the activation input is uncomfortable or a shortcut would work better. The page was updated June 2, 2026, and does not mark this Hold/Toggle option as an update-only feature.

PlayStation’s June 2, 2026 pre-release gameplay post mentioned Bull Rush alongside Tornado Spin, but the current official combat guide lists six Techniques and does not include Bull Rush. That discrepancy does not establish whether Bull Rush was renamed or removed; the six listed in the current guide are Tornado Spin, Knee Breaker, Relentless, Spiral Strike, Overwhelm, and Brutal Assault.

Release and platform
PlayStation announced a September 15, 2026 release for PS5 in its June 2, 2026 Blog post. The current official combat guide describes the game as available exclusively on PS5.
