A stuck Marvel Rivals update is usually caused by an unstable connection, insufficient space, damaged local files, security software, slow storage, or an optional HD-texture download that is larger than the normal patch. Start by checking the connection and free space, restart the launcher, verify the installation, and then apply the fix that matches the progress percentage. Do not assume a server outage unless the problem affects several clients or platforms and official support confirms one.
Start with this five-minute triage
Before changing files or reinstalling the game, identify what is actually stuck. A download that never leaves 0%, a progress bar frozen at one percentage, a transfer that reaches 99%, and a button that appears to download again after pressing Play can have different causes.

Marvel Rivals is distributed through Steam, the Epic Games Store, PlayStation, Xbox, and the official Loading Bay launcher. The exact menus differ, but the order of diagnosis is the same: connection, capacity, client restart, file verification, then platform-specific repair.
1. Check the connection before repairing the game
The official release FAQ from NetEase Games states: “If you encounter issues while downloading or installing the game, please check that your network connection is stable and that your device meets the minimum requirements.” A connection can be technically online yet still fail a large patch because of packet loss, repeated reconnects, or a router that has run out of usable bandwidth.

Quick connection checks
- Pause other large downloads, cloud synchronisation, video uploads, and game updates on the same network.
- If possible, use a wired connection or move closer to the wireless access point.
- Open another service on the same device to confirm that the connection is usable, not merely connected.
- Restart the router and the computer or console if the connection repeatedly drops.
- Close and reopen the launcher after the connection is stable. A failed transfer may not recover until the client creates a new download session.
Do not interpret a temporarily slow transfer as proof that the patch is broken. Watch whether the downloaded amount changes over several minutes. If it moves intermittently, leave the client open while you check storage and other causes rather than cancelling immediately.
2. Confirm free space on the installation drive
The Epic Games FAQ specifically advises checking that the installation drive has sufficient storage. A patch needs room for the downloaded archive, temporary unpacking files, and the replaced game data. The amount shown as the download size is therefore not a safe estimate of the total space required during installation.
What to check
- Identify the drive that contains the Marvel Rivals installation, not merely the drive that contains the launcher.
- Check the drive’s available space in the operating system or console storage screen.
- Remove or move unneeded files until there is comfortable headroom, then retry the patch.
- Keep the launcher pointed at the same installation directory. Changing drives during an interrupted update can create a second partial installation.
If the drive becomes full at a repeatable percentage, storage is a stronger suspect than the network. Freeing space and restarting the update is safer than deleting individual game files, because manual deletion can turn a repairable patch into a complete redownload.

Use the current minimum-requirements information for your platform and edition. A system that previously ran the game can still fail after an update if the operating system, graphics driver, available memory, or storage situation has changed. The official FAQ identifies meeting the minimum requirements as a first download and installation check, but it does not establish a universal hardware specification for every platform in the material available here.
On PC, close background applications that consume substantial memory or disk activity before retrying. On a console, confirm that the system software is current and that the console has not entered a low-storage or suspended-download state.

4. Restart the launcher or client cleanly
A normal window close is sometimes not enough if the launcher keeps a background update process alive. Use the platform’s exit command, wait for the client to close, and start it again. Then resume the update once, rather than clicking the update button repeatedly.
- On PC, verify in the task manager that the launcher and any Marvel Rivals update process have exited before reopening the launcher.
- On PlayStation or Xbox, quit the game and close it from the console’s recent-app or games menu before retrying.
- If the client offers Pause and Resume, pause once, wait briefly, and resume. Repeatedly cancelling can discard useful temporary data.
If a clean restart returns the same error at the same percentage, move to file verification instead of repeating restarts.
5. Verify the installation files on Steam or Epic
The official Marvel Rivals integrity guide covers Steam and Epic. Verification compares the installed files with the platform’s records and downloads missing or corrupted files again. It does not normally remove your account progress, but the launcher may need to redownload any damaged content it finds.
Steam
- Open Steam and select Library.
- Right-click Marvel Rivals and choose Properties.
- Open Installed Files.
- Select Verify integrity of game files.
- Wait for the check to finish before starting the game or another update.
Keep Steam open during the scan. If it reports files that must be reacquired, allow that download to complete, restart Steam, and check whether the patch now proceeds.
Epic Games Store
- Open the Epic Games Launcher and select Library.
- Find Marvel Rivals and select the three-dot menu beside the title.
- Choose Manage, then Verify.
- Wait until verification and any replacement download are complete.
Do not launch the game while Epic is still verifying. If verification finds no problem but the update still fails, the cause is more likely to be storage, connection, security software, or the launcher service rather than a missing game file.

6. Match the fix to the progress point
Stuck at 0%
A 0% display often means the client has not begun writing the patch. Confirm that the installation drive is mounted and writable, that free space is available, and that another process is not monopolising the drive. Restart the launcher after confirming the network. On PC, temporarily close applications that aggressively scan or lock newly created files. If the launcher still cannot begin, verify the files through Steam or Epic.

Frozen at a fixed middle percentage
A repeatable stop in the middle of the patch points toward a damaged file, a full drive, or a transfer that repeatedly loses its connection at the same point. Run the integrity check, clear enough storage for temporary patching, and retry on a stable connection. Note the percentage and any error text; that information is useful if support must investigate.
Appears stuck at 99%
At 99%, the download may have finished while the client is unpacking, replacing, or validating files. Disk activity can continue even when the network graph is flat. Allow the process time to finish and avoid force-closing it during this stage.
If 99% loading is consistently prolonged, the official Epic FAQ recommends considering installation on an SSD. An SSD can reduce local read and write delays, particularly when the game is installed on a slower hard drive. It is a storage-performance recommendation for this symptom, not a guaranteed cure for a server-side failure, corrupted launcher service, or every patch problem.
7. Determine whether the download is optional HD texture content
A large transfer after a patch is not always the base-game update. In a May 2026 announcement, Marvel Rivals explained that after the HD texture download completes, the button changes back to Play. If the launcher shows a sizeable download and then returns to Play, it may be processing optional HD texture content rather than repeatedly failing the same patch.

How to tell the difference
- Check whether the client labels the transfer as HD textures, texture content, or downloadable content.
- Observe whether the button changes back to Play when the transfer reaches completion.
- Compare the behavior with the normal update indicator. A separate content download can appear after the base patch has already installed.
Do not cancel a correctly identified texture download solely because it is larger than expected. If it never advances, apply the same connection, storage, verification, and security checks used for a base patch.
8. Update PC graphics drivers
The official FAQ recommends updating graphics drivers on PC. Driver updates do not directly repair a failed network transfer, but an outdated driver can cause the launcher or game to fail during the transition from patching to starting.
- Identify the graphics hardware in Windows system information or the manufacturer’s control panel.
- Install the current driver intended for that hardware and operating system from the hardware manufacturer.
- Restart Windows after installation.
- Open the game launcher and retry the update or launch.
If the download itself remains at 0% after a driver update, stop changing graphics settings and return to the network, storage, and file-integrity checks.
9. Check antivirus or security software blocks
The Marvel Rivals FAQ specifically mentions whitelisting Marvel-Win64-Shipping.exe and the game-storage path when antivirus software blocks the game. Security products can quarantine an executable or prevent the launcher from writing replacement files, especially immediately after an update.

- Open the security product’s quarantine or blocked-items history and look for the named executable.
- Confirm that the file is inside your legitimate Marvel Rivals installation directory.
- Add
Marvel-Win64-Shipping.exeand the actual game-storage path to the product’s allow list, following the security software’s own instructions. - Restart the launcher and run the Steam or Epic integrity check if a file was quarantined.
Do not whitelist a random executable with the same filename from an unrelated folder. If you are unsure which directory is the legitimate installation, use the platform’s installation-location screen and ask official support before making a security exception.

10. Platform-specific considerations

11. Decide whether an SSD is worth considering
An internal SSD is relevant when the game is installed on a slow or nearly full hard drive, especially when loading repeatedly stalls at 99%. Faster storage can improve local unpacking and validation and can provide more usable capacity for temporary patch files.
- Consider one when: the drive is slow, free space is consistently tight, or the 99% stage takes an unusually long time while disk activity remains high.
- Do not expect it to fix: an outage, an unstable network, a blocked executable, corrupted launcher services, or a platform account problem.
- Before moving: confirm the platform supports moving the installation and that the destination has enough free space for both the existing files and the patch process.
12. When to stop local troubleshooting
Escalate instead of repeatedly reinstalling when the failure survives a stable connection, adequate storage, a clean launcher restart, and file verification. Contact the Marvel Rivals Support bot through the official Discord. Steam also lists marvel_rivals@global.netease.com as official support.
Include useful diagnostic details
- Your platform and launcher: Steam, Epic, PlayStation, Xbox, or Loading Bay.
- The exact progress point, such as 0%, a fixed percentage, or 99%.
- Whether the transfer is the base patch or labeled HD texture content.
- Available free space on the installation drive.
- Whether file verification found and replaced files.
- Your operating system and graphics-driver status on PC.
- The exact error message, approximate start time, and whether another platform or client behaves the same way.
There is no confirmed patch-specific October 2026 outage in the official information available for this guide. If the same failure appears across multiple clients or platforms, treat that pattern as a reason to provide the details above to official support rather than assuming that another local reinstall will help.
