Seattle said its 40-man roster remained at 39 after the move. Toglia had been sidelined by a right shoulder dislocation, and the announcement did not specify a recovery timetable or an expected role with Seattle.
What happened in the transaction?
Seattle announced that it claimed Toglia from Cincinnati off waivers on October 2, 2026. The announcement was issued by Justin Hollander, the Mariners’ Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations. The move is also reflected in MLB’s transaction listing. The Mariners described Toglia as an infielder/outfielder; his MLB profile lists him as a first baseman.
Seattle said its 40-man roster remained at 39 players following the claim. Neither the announcement nor the profile establishes whether Toglia will be ready to play, when he might return, or what role the Mariners expect him to fill.
What is the status of Toglia’s shoulder?
The Mariners reported that Toglia dislocated his right shoulder. Cincinnati placed him on the 10-day injured list on August 11, 2026, and transferred him to the 60-day injured list on September 4. He appeared in 10 major league games for the Reds in August before missing the rest of the season, according to Seattle’s announcement. The club did not provide a recovery timetable with the waiver claim.

How did Toglia perform in 2026?
His major league and Triple-A numbers reflect different levels and sample sizes, so they should be read separately rather than combined.
| Level and team | 2026 sample | Batting average | Home runs | RBI | OPS |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| MLB, Cincinnati | 10 games; 26 at-bats (MLB profile) | .115 | 0 | 1 | .371 |
| Triple-A, Louisville | 97 games (Mariners announcement) | .273 | 22 | 65 | .920 |
The major league line covers just 26 at-bats, a limited sample that does not establish how he would perform over a longer stretch. The Louisville line shows substantially more power production over 97 games, but it comes from Triple-A and is not interchangeable with major league results.

What is Toglia’s career background?
Toglia was 28 when Seattle announced the claim. He is a switch hitter who throws left, according to his MLB profile. The Colorado Rockies selected him 23rd overall in the first round of the 2019 draft out of UCLA.
Through the Mariners’ October 2, 2026 announcement, Toglia had played parts of five major league seasons with Colorado from 2022 through 2025 and Cincinnati in 2026. Seattle reported a career MLB line of 290 games, a .198 batting average, 42 home runs, 109 RBI and a .695 OPS. Why did Seattle claim him?
The Mariners’ announcement confirms the waiver claim but does not give the club’s scouting rationale. The available information shows a player with major league experience, a strong 2026 Triple-A power line and a short, difficult major league stint in Cincinnati, followed by a shoulder injury. It does not establish which factors drove Seattle’s decision or what it plans to do with him.
