MakeMyTrip’s Price Drop Protection is a paid, optional add-on that may refund part of an eligible fare drop after your ticket is issued. It is not an automatic refund for every lower price you see: the fare must meet MakeMyTrip’s rules, you must take the same flight, and the benefit is capped by itinerary type.
How Price Drop Protection works
MakeMyTrip describes Price Drop Protection as an optional fee-per-passenger add-on selected during booking. If a qualifying fare for the same flight falls after ticket issuance and before six hours prior to scheduled departure, you may claim the eligible difference after completing the trip. The claim must be submitted through MakeMyTrip within 30 days of the scheduled departure date. See the MakeMyTrip flight-booking FAQ and the official terms and conditions.
The terms apply to bookings through MakeMyTrip (India) Private Limited’s platform. The service may not appear for every booking or user, and MakeMyTrip reserves the right to change or withdraw it. Check the add-on and its terms in your own booking flow.
How much can you get back?
The maximum benefit depends on whether the booking is one-way or round-trip and whether it is domestic or international. These are per-passenger ceilings, not guaranteed payments; the qualifying fare difference may be lower.

Which fare drops qualify?
The comparison is against the lowest fare MakeMyTrip captures for the same flight during the eligible period. Only the fare components identified in the terms—base fare and taxes—count toward the difference. A cheaper displayed total does not necessarily qualify.

What the add-on may cost—and how to assess it
Business Standard and Trav Talk reported launch starting prices of ₹229 per passenger for domestic flights and ₹349 for international flights in September 2026. These are reported starting prices, not guaranteed quotes for a particular itinerary or a promise that the same price is currently offered. Confirm the fee in the booking flow.
Before paying, compare the fee per passenger with the trip’s applicable cap and consider whether you can keep the itinerary unchanged. The sources do not establish how often fares drop or how likely any particular booking is to qualify, so the cap alone cannot show whether the add-on is worthwhile.

Price Drop Protection is not Price Lock
Price Lock is a pre-purchase fare hold: it relates to reserving a fare before buying the ticket. Price Drop Protection is selected with a booking and concerns an eligible fare decrease after ticket issuance. MakeMyTrip’s flight FAQ describes the distinct offerings; one does not replace the other.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What to check before booking
- Whether the add-on is offered for your specific booking and the actual per-passenger fee.
- Whether the itinerary is one-way or round-trip, and domestic or international, to identify the relevant maximum.
- That only eligible base fare and tax differences count, subject to the exclusions in the official terms.
- That you can take the same flight without cancellation, rescheduling, or modification.
- The claim process and 30-day deadline measured from scheduled departure.
MakeMyTrip COO Raj Rishi Singh told Business Standard that the feature is intended to let travellers book without worrying that fares may fall later. That is the company’s rationale; the available launch coverage does not provide an independently verified refund rate or evidence that an individual traveller is likely to receive a payout.
