The Demacia Cup is a separate tournament, not an LPL split. LPL teams can enter the Cup, but each competition has its own format and purpose—and the Cup’s scope can change from one edition to another.
Is the Demacia Cup part of the LPL?
No. The LPL is the regional league season; the Demacia Cup is a separate tournament. A team’s participation in both does not make the Cup part of the LPL standings or regular-season championship. Riot’s 2026 LPL handbook describes the league competition, while the Cup is organized as its own event.
How do the competitions differ?
| Question | LPL | Demacia Cup |
|---|---|---|
| What is it? | China’s regional professional league, played as a seasonal competition. | A separate tournament. The 2025 edition was a domestic post-season cup; the 2026 edition is announced as an international invitational. |
| Who plays? | Riot’s 2026 handbook says all teams in the region participate and lists 14 teams. | In 2025, 14 LPL teams and two streamer squads competed, according to Huya’s event announcement. For 2026, the announcement names 12 invitees from LPL, LCK, LEC, LCS, LCP and CBLOL; they had not qualified for Worlds, according to Jiemian’s report. |
| How is it structured? | The 2026 league handbook describes a group-based regular season, play-ins and an eight-team double-elimination playoff. | The 2025 edition used group stages and an eight-team single-elimination best-of-five knockout, with Fearless Draft, according to Liquipedia’s 2025 event page. For 2026, the announcement confirms an online phase and an offline final eight in Beijing, but does not establish the full match structure. |
| What does the result mean? | Teams compete for league standings and the LPL playoffs. In the 2026 season, the top two LPL seeds qualify for First Stand. | The tournament awards a Cup title. The available 2026 announcement does not say that it changes LPL standings or determines Worlds qualification. |
What is different about the 2026 Demacia Cup?
The 2026 edition is announced as the Demacia Cup Global Invitational, scheduled for October 3–17, 2026. It is co-hosted by TJ Sports and Huya and expands beyond China, with 12 invited teams from six regions: LPL, LCK, LEC, LCS, LCP and CBLOL. The announcement says the final eight will play offline at Beijing Smart Esports Event Center and gives a total prize pool of ¥1.5 million. These are announced event details reported by Jiemian, rather than a complete official rules document.
The invitees’ lack of Worlds qualification is a criterion described for this invitational; it does not make the Cup a Worlds qualifier. The report does not establish a connection between Cup results and LPL standings.

Why do descriptions of the Cup vary?
“Demacia Cup” does not mean a fixed format or entrant list across every year. Huya says the 2025 event ran from December 15, 2025 to January 3, 2026, with 14 LPL teams and two streamer squads. That edition’s format and draft rules are historical details, not rules to assume for the 2026 international event.
Huya also described the 2025 edition as the first since the Cup began in 2014 to grant hosting rights to a third party. That context helps explain Huya’s role as organizer for that edition; it does not turn the Cup into an LPL competition.
