The Logitech MX Brio is a strong premium webcam for detailed video, difficult lighting, autofocus, and adjustable framing, but its $199.99 U.S. price is hard to justify for basic calls. The camera records 4K at 30fps or 1080p at 60fps, lacks 4K/60fps and an explicitly advertised Windows Hello feature, and is best for serious remote work, streaming, demonstrations, and recording.

Logitech’s U.S. store listed the MX Brio at $199.99 and in stock when checked on August 18, 2026. Prices and availability can change, so the price in this review is a dated U.S. price rather than a permanent MSRP. Logitech launched the MX Brio in 2024 at a North American recommended retail price of $199.99, positioning it above ordinary 1080p webcams and as a newer alternative to the original Brio 4K.

The short version: buy the MX Brio when camera quality will affect your work or content, especially in uneven light. Choose the older Brio 4K if Windows Hello is important, and choose a much cheaper 1080p webcam if you only need a better-than-laptop camera for occasional meetings.

Key takeaways

  • The Logitech MX Brio records 4K video at 30fps and 1080p video at 60fps, so buyers must choose between maximum detail and smoother motion.
  • Logitech says the MX Brio has pixels 70% larger than the older Brio 4K and claims up to twice the detail and face visibility in difficult lighting; those are manufacturer comparisons, not independent laboratory measurements.
  • The selectable 65°, 78°, and 90° diagonal fields of view make the MX Brio more flexible than a fixed-framing webcam, with 65° usually best for one person at a desk.
  • The $199.99 U.S. price checked August 18, 2026 is difficult to justify for basic calls, while the older Brio 4K was listed at $169.99 and the 1080p BRIO 100 at $39.99.
  • The MX Brio has autofocus, two built-in microphones, USB-C, a physical privacy shutter, and Windows/macOS software controls, but it does not offer 4K/60fps or an explicitly advertised Windows Hello feature on the consumer product page.

How good is the MX Brio at 4K?

The MX Brio’s 4K mode is useful when the recording itself benefits from fine detail or when the image will be cropped. A close-up tutorial, product demonstration, whiteboard explanation, or presentation can retain more usable detail at 4K than at 1080p, provided the application records the higher-resolution feed and the lighting is adequate.

4K is less valuable in an ordinary video meeting. Zoom, Teams, Google Meet, browser permissions, account settings, network conditions, and platform compression can reduce the final image well below the webcam’s capture resolution. A 4K webcam does not guarantee a 4K call. Buyers should check the conferencing service’s supported resolution and whether a paid plan or special account setting is required.

4K also needs a sensible physical setup. The MX Brio must be close enough for the extra pixels to describe the face or object clearly, and the computer must provide a suitable USB connection. If the camera is pointed across a dim room, or if the service compresses the feed heavily, the practical difference from a good 1080p webcam can be modest.

What is the difference between 4K/30 and 1080p/60?

The MX Brio is a detail-oriented camera at 4K/30fps and a smoother-motion camera at 1080p/60fps. The MX Brio cannot deliver 4K at 60fps, so the best mode depends on whether the buyer values resolution or motion.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Mode Best for Trade-off
4K/30fps Recording, cropping, product demonstrations, close-up tutorials, and maximum facial detail Motion is less fluid than 60fps, and the application may not transmit 4K
1080p/60fps Streaming, gestures, moving demonstrations, and smoother video calls Less fine detail and less room for clean digital cropping
720p Lower-bandwidth calls or applications with limited resolution support Lower detail; documentation differs on the exact maximum frame rate by product designation or software path

Logitech’s consumer MX Brio product information and technical documents support the central buying distinction: 4K is limited to 30fps, while 1080p can run at 60fps. Do not buy the MX Brio expecting both 4K and high-frame-rate capture.

Does the MX Brio perform well in low light and against windows?

The MX Brio’s low-light performance is one of its strongest reasons to cost more than a basic webcam. Logitech uses automatic light correction and face-based image enhancement to make the subject more visible when a room is unevenly lit or a bright window sits behind the user. Independent coverage from Digital Camera World’s MX Brio review described the low-light performance as very good and the autofocus as quick and reliable.

Logitech says the MX Brio has pixels 70% larger than the older Brio 4K and claims up to two times finer image detail and face visibility in difficult lighting compared with that camera. The claims belong to Logitech and should not be read as universal independent measurements. The sensible interpretation is that the newer sensor and processing are intended to preserve a more usable face in conditions where a cheaper webcam becomes noisy, muddy, or overly dark.

In ordinary ceiling light, the MX Brio should produce a more useful image than a weak integrated laptop camera, but the result still depends on the room. With a bright window behind the user, automatic correction can lift the face while sacrificing some background detail. In a genuinely dark room, processing can brighten the face but cannot remove all noise or restore background information that the sensor did not capture.

  • Maximum Frame Rate: 60 fps
  • Image Sensor Type: STARVIS

A small, diffused desk key light or monitor light can improve the image more dramatically than moving from 1080p to 4K. The MX Brio helps with difficult light; the MX Brio does not make front lighting unnecessary.

How reliable is MX Brio autofocus?

The MX Brio uses autofocus that is useful for face-to-camera calls and for demonstrations in which the user holds a document, product, or other object close to the lens. Digital Camera World found the autofocus quick and reliable in its review, while Logitech documents manual-focus adjustment through its software.

Autofocus is an advantage for YouTubers, teachers, presenters, and product demonstrators because the camera can change attention between the presenter and an object. Autofocus can also become a distraction during streaming if the lens repeatedly changes focus as the presenter moves or raises an object. Streamers who want a stable image may prefer to set focus manually after positioning themselves at the intended distance.

Autofocus should not be confused with automatic subject tracking. The MX Brio can focus on a subject and provide adjustable framing, but the dossier does not support describing the camera as a webcam with sophisticated automatic person tracking or advanced auto-framing.

Which MX Brio field of view should you use?

The MX Brio offers 65°, 78°, and 90° diagonal fields of view. The 65° setting is generally the best starting point for one person at a desk, 78° is a balanced general-purpose view, and 90° is useful when the frame must include more of a room or another person.

Field of view Recommended use What to watch for
65° Single-person calls and professional desk framing Shows less of the room and gives a tighter composition
78° General meetings and a little more workspace Balanced view, but the subject may appear smaller than at 65°
90° Two people, room context, physical demonstrations, and wider presentations Shows more background and can emphasize perspective distortion near the edges

The camera also supports digital zoom. Digital zoom crops the captured image; digital zoom does not create new detail. A 90° view can be useful for a demonstration, but it can make a single person look distant and expose a messy background. Position the camera near eye level and use the tightest view that comfortably includes the intended subject.

Are the MX Brio’s colors and image processing natural?

The MX Brio’s appeal is not only its nominal 4K resolution. The sensor and processing must preserve skin tones, control bright areas near windows, and avoid turning shadow areas into distracting noise. The camera’s automatic processing is intended to keep the face visible in difficult conditions, but automatic enhancement is still a compromise: lifting a face can make the background look darker, flatter, or less natural.

For calls, a clear and consistently exposed face is usually more valuable than perfectly neutral color across the entire room. For recorded content, buyers should inspect the image in their actual lighting and decide whether the processing looks natural enough for their style. A small front light, neutral background, and correct camera height often contribute more to a professional-looking result than increasing resolution alone.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How good are the MX Brio microphones?

The MX Brio has two built-in microphones with noise-reducing processing. The microphones are suitable for ordinary meetings when convenience matters, but the MX Brio should not be described as having studio-quality audio or as replacing a dedicated microphone for serious streaming, podcasting, or professional presentation work.

At a normal desk distance, the microphones can provide usable voice capture and reduce some keyboard or fan noise. Speakers in a reflective room can still create echo or a hollow sound, and a larger room can make the voice sound more distant. A headset is often the safer choice for echo-prone calls, while a dedicated USB microphone is the better upgrade for streamers and presenters who otherwise like the MX Brio’s video.

The MX Brio’s main strength is video. Buyers should treat the built-in microphones as a convenient backup or meeting solution rather than allowing the microphone specification to determine a purchase intended for high-quality audio production.

What software controls does the MX Brio provide?

Logitech’s software for Windows and macOS provides controls for field of view, digital zoom, color and image settings, presets or image profiles, manual focus, and firmware updates. The MX Brio can also work as a standard webcam without requiring the full Logitech software package.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The distinction between camera controls and application controls matters. Zoom, Teams, Google Meet, OBS, and other programs may expose their own camera-selection, resolution, framing, and image settings. Logi software may provide controls that the conferencing application does not. Full Logitech control availability should not be assumed on ChromeOS, Linux, or every webcam application.

Logitech’s support documentation for the MX Brio identifies Windows and macOS as the supported software environments. The camera can function as a standard webcam on compatible systems, but basic camera access is not the same as access to every Logi control.

Software labels and menus can change between versions, so use the current Logi software rather than relying on an old screenshot. For a stable streaming setup, set the 65° or 78° view, adjust exposure and color, and consider manual focus if autofocus changes are visible during demonstrations.

What are the MX Brio’s design and mounting advantages?

The MX Brio uses a substantial housing with a detachable monitor/laptop mounting clip, a standard tripod thread, USB-C connectivity, and an attachable physical privacy shutter. Logitech lists dimensions of approximately 61.6mm high, 98mm wide, and 52.2mm deep, with a weight of approximately 234.3g including the mount clip and cable. The supplied cable is approximately 1.5m, or about 5ft.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The physical shutter is a useful privacy feature because closing the lens does not depend on an application setting. Check the shutter physically before a meeting: a camera can still be selected by an application even when the lens is covered, and a privacy control is only useful if it is actually closed.

The camera’s weight and clip are reassuring on a desktop monitor but can feel top-heavy on a thin laptop screen. USB-C is convenient on newer computers. Computers with only USB-A ports may require an adapter or a different compatible cable, and a hub can introduce another point of failure if the camera is running at a demanding resolution.

Does the MX Brio work with Windows, Mac, and ChromeOS?

The MX Brio is compatible with Windows, macOS, ChromeOS, and common webcam applications as a standard USB webcam. Logitech’s full software controls are focused on Windows and macOS, so ChromeOS and other systems may provide camera access without the same image, framing, focus, or firmware-management options.

Windows users should pay special attention to Windows Hello. The original Brio 4K has optical and infrared sensors and is explicitly marketed by Logitech with Windows Hello facial recognition. The MX Brio’s consumer product page does not explicitly list Windows Hello. The MX Brio is therefore the better image-quality choice in difficult light, while the older Brio 4K is the safer choice when camera-based Windows sign-in is a must-have.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Face enhancement, autofocus, and image processing are not Windows Hello. Windows Hello requires suitable infrared hardware and certification. Do not buy the MX Brio for facial login without verifying current compatibility for the exact hardware and Windows configuration.

How does the MX Brio compare with the Brio 4K and BRIO 100?

The MX Brio is the premium image-quality option, the older Brio 4K is the more compelling in-brand choice for Windows Hello, and the BRIO 100 is the value option for ordinary 1080p meetings. Logitech’s U.S. store prices below were observed on August 18, 2026 and can change.

Model Price seen Resolution and motion Best reason to choose it Main compromise
Logitech MX Brio $199.99 4K/30fps or 1080p/60fps Newer sensor, stronger difficult-light performance, adjustable 65°/78°/90° framing, and mixed call/recording use High price, no 4K/60fps, and no explicitly advertised Windows Hello feature
Logitech Brio 4K $169.99 4K/30fps or 1080p/60fps Lower price and explicit Windows Hello support Older sensor and image processing than MX Brio
Logitech BRIO 100 $39.99 1080p Basic calls at a much lower cost than either 4K model Not intended for 4K recording, heavy cropping, or demanding difficult-light use

See Logitech’s Brio 4K shop listing and BRIO 100 shop listing for the dated price signals used in this comparison. The $30 difference between the MX Brio and Brio 4K is relatively small, but the older model’s Windows Hello advantage can matter more than the newer model’s image improvements for a Windows productivity setup.

Is the MX Brio worth $199.99?

The MX Brio is worth $199.99 when the buyer will use its image quality, difficult-light performance, autofocus, adjustable framing, or 4K recording often. The MX Brio is not worth $199.99 for a buyer whose only requirement is occasional video meetings in a well-lit room.

The decision is clearer when the alternatives are considered. A $39.99 BRIO 100 can be sufficient for routine calls, especially when the call service compresses video. The older Brio 4K at $169.99 may be a better Windows purchase if Windows Hello is essential. The MX Brio earns its premium through the combination of its newer sensor, image processing, low-light behavior, design, and software flexibility rather than through 4K alone.

Buyer Recommendation Why
Remote worker with a laptop webcam Buy if image quality affects frequent calls; otherwise choose 1080p A premium camera is useful for daily professional visibility but excessive for occasional meetings
Streamer Buy for video; add dedicated audio if needed 1080p/60fps is smooth, autofocus helps demonstrations, and the framing controls are useful
YouTuber or presenter Buy when 4K recording or cropping matters 4K/30fps preserves detail, while manual focus can prevent distracting focus changes
Mac user Buy if the camera will be used heavily Logi software support is available on macOS, subject to current software compatibility
Windows Hello user Prefer the older Brio 4K unless MX Brio compatibility is verified Logitech explicitly lists Windows Hello for the older Brio 4K
Budget buyer Skip the MX Brio and buy a good 1080p webcam The $199.99 price is disproportionate if basic meetings are the only use

How should you set up the MX Brio?

  1. Place the camera close to eye level rather than far below the face or high above the monitor.
  2. Start with the 65° field of view for a single-person desk call, then move to 78° or 90° only when more workspace or another person must appear.
  3. Put a small, diffused light in front of the user when the room is dim or a window is behind the user.
  4. Use 4K/30fps for recording and cropping, or 1080p/60fps when smooth movement is more important.
  5. Use autofocus for changing subjects and demonstrations; use manual focus for a fixed streaming position.
  6. Close the physical privacy shutter when the camera is not in use.
  7. Choose a headset or dedicated USB microphone when echo, keyboard noise, or presentation audio quality is important.

What should you do if the MX Brio is not detected?

If the MX Brio is not appearing in a meeting or recording application, work through the connection before assuming that the camera is defective.

  1. Close other applications that may already be using the camera.
  2. Disconnect and reconnect the USB-C cable.
  3. Check the operating system’s camera permissions and confirm that the MX Brio is selected as the camera.
  4. Try another USB port, avoiding an overloaded hub where possible.
  5. Open Logitech’s software and check whether a firmware update is available.
  6. Test the camera in the operating system’s built-in camera application.
  7. Reopen Zoom, Teams, Google Meet, OBS, or the relevant application after the camera is detected.

A camera that works in the operating system’s camera app but not in one meeting application usually points to an application selection, permission, or software conflict. A camera that fails everywhere should be tested with another port, cable, or computer before troubleshooting the meeting application.

What are the MX Brio’s main weaknesses?

  • 4K stops at 30fps: buyers wanting 4K/60fps must consider another webcam or a dedicated camera.
  • Price: $199.99 is a large premium over ordinary 1080p webcams, and platform compression can hide much of the extra resolution.
  • Audio is only convenient: the two microphones can work for meetings but are not a studio-quality replacement for dedicated audio.
  • No clear Windows Hello positioning: the older Brio 4K is the safer choice for Windows facial login.
  • No automatic setup miracle: camera height, distance, lighting, background, and field of view still determine much of the perceived quality.
  • Wide-angle compromises: the 90° setting shows more of the room but can make the face smaller and exaggerate perspective near the edges.
  • Possible warmth during long sessions: some third-party coverage reports that the camera becomes warm, but warmth alone is not evidence of a defect or thermal failure.

Final verdict

The Logitech MX Brio is a genuinely capable premium webcam, not merely a 4K specification exercise. The combination of detailed 4K/30 capture, smooth 1080p/60 video, quick autofocus, adjustable field of view, useful low-light processing, physical privacy, and Windows/macOS controls makes it a strong all-purpose camera for serious remote work, streaming, and recording.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The MX Brio is not the right universal recommendation. Basic meeting users should save money with a capable 1080p webcam. Windows Hello users should look closely at the older Brio 4K. Buyers who demand 4K/60fps or professional audio should consider a different camera or a dedicated production setup.

Buy the MX Brio for premium video quality and difficult-light flexibility. Buy it on sale if those benefits matter but $199.99 feels excessive. Skip it if the camera will only handle routine calls, Windows Hello is mandatory, or 4K/60fps is the requirement.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Logitech MX Brio support 4K at 60fps?

No. The Logitech MX Brio supports 4K at 30fps and 1080p at 60fps. Buyers must choose maximum detail at 4K or smoother motion at 1080p.

Does the Logitech MX Brio support Windows Hello?

The MX Brio consumer product page does not explicitly advertise Windows Hello. Logitech explicitly markets Windows Hello for the older Brio 4K, so Windows users who require facial login should verify MX Brio compatibility for the exact hardware and configuration or choose the older model.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Is the MX Brio good for streaming?

Yes, the MX Brio is a good streaming webcam when the user values 1080p/60fps motion, autofocus, adjustable framing, and strong video in uneven light. The built-in microphones are convenient, but serious streamers may still want a dedicated USB microphone or headset.

Is 4K worth paying for in a webcam?

4K is worth paying for when the buyer records content, crops or digitally reframes footage, shows products, or needs extra detail. 4K is less valuable when a meeting platform compresses the stream or when the webcam is used only for routine calls.
