YouTube’s recommendations are ingestion targets—not guarantees about what any Indian internet connection can sustain—and its official guidance does not specify a separate bitrate for India.
Start with LiveReacting’s Auto setting
LiveReacting’s Settings Configuration for Live Stream guide recommends leaving Video Bitrate on Auto for optimal quality based on project settings. It also provides a custom video bitrate option. Use Auto unless you have a specific reason to control the bitrate manually.
The guide describes plugin mode for OBS, Wirecast, StreamYard, Ecamm and other software. It does not publish a special numerical bitrate for users in India. Your best setting therefore depends on your chosen output format and the sustained upload capacity of the connection used for the stream.
YouTube’s recommended manual bitrates
If you choose a custom bitrate, first decide on resolution, frame rate and ingestion codec. YouTube’s live encoder settings guidance gives these recommended ingestion bitrates:

These figures are YouTube’s recommendations for the listed codec and format, not measurements of Indian broadband and not a promise that a particular ISP, plan or location will hold the target steadily. Don’t choose one bitrate simply because the stream is based in India; select the row that matches your output and validate the connection.
How to choose between the options
- 720p or 1080p: Higher resolution needs a higher bitrate in YouTube’s recommended settings. Choose the resolution that suits the content and connection rather than increasing it by default.
- 30 or 60 fps: Select the frame rate you actually intend to send. Use the matching row; do not apply a 60-fps figure to a 30-fps stream.
- H.264 or AV1/H.265: The recommendations differ by codec. Use the column for the ingestion codec your setup is sending.
- Auto or manual: Auto is LiveReacting’s recommended starting point. A manual target makes sense when you need explicit control and can test that target reliably.
YouTube transcodes live streams into multiple output formats for viewers, so the encoder’s incoming bitrate is not the same thing as a fixed playback bitrate for every viewer.

Set and validate the bitrate before going live
- In LiveReacting, open the stream settings and locate Video Bitrate. Keep it on Auto unless you have chosen to set a custom value. The exact UI labels and available controls can depend on the workflow; use LiveReacting’s settings guide for its current configuration details.
- For a manual target, settle the output first. Choose the resolution, frame rate and codec you will use, then select the corresponding YouTube recommendation from the table above.
- Test the upload connection where the stream will run. YouTube recommends using a speed test to check upload bitrate and performing a pre-stream test. A plan’s advertised download speed does not establish its sustained upload performance.
- Make the preflight representative. Include the kind of motion and audio expected in the real stream. A static or silent test may not reveal the behavior of the actual content.
- Check stream health and messages during the test and event. If the connection does not reliably support the selected target, lower the target or return to Auto, then test again. This is a practical response to YouTube’s advice to choose a reliable quality for the available connection, not an India-specific bitrate formula.
Why there is no single “best bitrate in India”
Internet performance varies with provider, plan, local network conditions and congestion. The official LiveReacting and YouTube guidance cited here does not benchmark Indian ISPs or establish a nationwide upload-speed figure. The useful number is therefore the recommendation matching your chosen YouTube format, checked against the upload connection you will actually use—not a country-wide preset.
The same principle applies whether you stream through LiveReacting alone or use its plugin mode with another supported production tool: a recommended encoder target cannot compensate for an unstable uplink. Measure, preflight with representative audio and motion, and monitor stream health rather than assuming a particular connection will hold because of its advertised plan.
