These are not interchangeable tools in every setup. OBS can create and encode a live program; Livepush can distribute such a feed and separately offers scheduled playback of prerecorded videos. If the goal is a playlist that keeps running while nobody is operating a computer, Livepush’s documented schedule channel is the closer match. If the goal is to produce a live scene from a computer, OBS serves the encoder role.
Can OBS run a 24/7 YouTube stream?
OBS can send an encoder stream to YouTube, but that does not by itself establish an unattended, cloud-hosted playlist. In a do-it-yourself setup, the computer running OBS, the source media or production, the network connection, and the stream session all need to remain available. The cited official material does not describe OBS as a hosted scheduler that queues prerecorded videos and continues without the operator’s machine.
YouTube describes webcam, mobile-device, and encoder workflows. Its encoder workflow requires creating the stream through YouTube Live and entering the server URL and stream key in the encoder. Connect an encoder to YouTube
- In YouTube Studio, open the Live workflow and create or select the stream you intend to use. YouTube’s current Live controls determine the available stream configuration.
- Copy the server URL and stream key shown for that stream. Treat the key as a password: anyone with it may be able to broadcast to your channel.
- In the encoder, open its stream settings and enter YouTube’s server URL and stream key. Do not paste a Livepush ingest URL here unless you intend to send the encoder feed to Livepush for distribution.
- Start the encoder, then confirm the incoming feed and go-live state in YouTube’s Live controls. Keep the machine, source, and connection operating for as long as this do-it-yourself stream is meant to run.
The cited YouTube instructions do not specify OBS bitrate, resolution, or keyframe values for this particular comparison, so use the current recommendations and controls shown in your YouTube and OBS versions rather than treating an unverified setting as universal.
Use OBS with Livepush for distribution
Livepush also documents a different workflow: put Livepush’s ingest URL and stream key into OBS, then configure destinations in Livepush. In that arrangement, OBS produces the feed and Livepush distributes it. This is distinct from using Livepush’s schedule channel to play prerecorded videos continuously. Livepush says the number of platform destinations depends on the plan; its multistreaming overview is at Livepush’s multistreaming page.

When Livepush is the better fit
Livepush’s strongest documented fit here is a prerecorded 24/7 channel. Its Help Center says the 24/7 function works through a schedule channel, where videos can be queued for continuous operation. This can suit a channel built around a recurring playlist, such as a music, ambient, or archive stream, when unattended scheduling is more important than producing a live scene at a computer. The workflow and feature descriptions are vendor claims, not independent performance tests.

Livepush’s plan pages checked on October 3, 2026 list Creators as the least expensive plan that supports the 24/7 schedule channel. Prices and entitlements can change; verify the plan page before subscribing.

If you want viewers on your own website
Livepush distinguishes social-platform distribution from hosted playback on your site. Its documentation describes hosting plans with a branded player delivered via Akamai CDN, and identifies Studio as the entry plan for 24/7 hosted playback; Events does not include the 24/7 schedule channel. That is a separate requirement from simply sending a stream to YouTube. Check the current plan details before choosing a hosting plan.

When OBS is the better fit
OBS makes more sense when you are assembling a live production and need an encoder: for example, capturing a desktop or gameplay, incorporating external audio/video equipment, or managing a scene-based show. It can also serve as the production side of a Livepush multistream setup. For these uses, the operator controls the production and stream session; the cited sources do not establish a cloud playlist function in OBS that substitutes for Livepush’s schedule channel.

YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That guidance does not promise that a single stream lasting 24 hours or longer will be saved as one automatic video. If an archive matters, check the current YouTube Live controls and plan a workflow that does not depend on an unsupported assumption about a continuous broadcast. See YouTube’s encoder guidance.

Use media you own or are authorized to stream, and review YouTube’s current live controls and applicable channel rules before scheduling a long-running broadcast.
