If you want a cloud-run YouTube loop without managing a VPS, StreamNeo is the first alternative to consider: it runs continuously from uploaded videos, supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers a free first day.
Which approach fits your stream?
| Decision | FFmpeg on a VPS | Livepush |
|---|---|---|
| Where looping happens | FFmpeg runs on your rented VPS and reads your media file. Its official documentation supports infinite repetition with -stream_loop -1. |
Livepush’s hosted prerecorded workflow and 24/7 schedule channel queue and loop videos. See its schedule-channel instructions. |
| Who handles operations | You maintain the VPS, FFmpeg command, process supervision, network path, and restart/recovery behavior. | Livepush runs the hosted workflow; you configure the channel and YouTube destination and select a plan that fits. |
| Cost basis | You pay for a VPS; cost depends on provider, region, bandwidth and compute needs. No particular VPS price is established here. | Livepush’s help documentation listed its Creators plan at $39 monthly or $32.50 per month with annual billing for 24/7 social streaming when checked in 2026. Verify current prices and plan limits before subscribing. |
| Multiple destinations | Possible with separate outputs or relay architecture, but setup depends on your configuration. | Livepush documents forwarding to configured destinations; destination limits depend on the plan. |
| Encoding control | You control the FFmpeg output and must check compatibility with your source and YouTube’s ingest settings. | Livepush provides a hosted workflow and YouTube destination; check current output options and account settings. |
| YouTube replay | YouTube’s archive policy applies. | The same YouTube archive policy applies. |
There is no universally cheaper or more reliable route. The right choice depends on your budget, audience geography, target quality, number of channels and destinations, source-video workflow, and willingness to maintain a server. Available feature descriptions do not establish comparative uptime or failure rates.
What YouTube requires from the stream
YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends RTMP/RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval, which should not exceed four seconds. For H.264, its guidance lists 10 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps and 14 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps. Recommendations vary by codec, resolution, and frame rate; check YouTube’s current encoder settings before configuring your output.
Those are ingest settings, not a guarantee that a particular source can be copied unchanged. Inspect the file’s codecs, container, frame rate, and timestamps before using stream copy. FFmpeg’s documentation warns that stream copying can fail when the target container’s requirements are not met. If the source is incompatible, you may need to encode it instead, which affects VPS CPU requirements.

Run the loop yourself with FFmpeg on a VPS
This route is appropriate if you are comfortable administering a server and want control over the playback process. The VPS must be able to read the media and sustain the outbound stream; your process supervision must restart FFmpeg after failures. The example below shows the core loop-and-publish pattern, not a universally safe command: verify your file, container, codecs, YouTube stream key, and required output settings first.
- Prepare the VPS and media. Install FFmpeg using the package method supported by your VPS operating system. Place the video on the server and inspect it with
ffprobeor an equivalent media-inspection tool. Confirm that its audio and video codecs and timestamps suit the output/container you plan to use. - Get a YouTube stream key. In YouTube Studio, open Create → Go live, configure the stream, and copy its stream key. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or leave it in a publicly readable script. Use YouTube’s RTMP/RTMPS ingest address and current encoder recommendations.
- Build and test the FFmpeg command. FFmpeg’s
-stream_loop -1repeats the input indefinitely. A basic pattern isffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -i /path/to/video.mp4 -c:v copy -c:a copy -f flv "rtmp://YOUR_YOUTUBE_INGEST/YOUR_STREAM_KEY". Replace the URL with the ingest address and key shown by YouTube. This stream-copy example is suitable only if the media is compatible with the output format and YouTube’s ingest requirements. If it is not, choose appropriate encoding options and test them; encoding increases compute demand. - Check the live output. Start the process and watch YouTube Studio’s preview and stream health indicators. Confirm that picture and sound are present and stable before treating the setup as ready. Check the actual resolution, frame rate, bitrate, and keyframe interval against YouTube’s current guidance.
- Keep it running and recover deliberately. Use a service manager or process supervisor to start FFmpeg at boot and restart it if it exits. Monitor the process and server, and decide how you will respond to a network outage, VPS reboot, expired or changed stream key, disk issue, or YouTube ingest interruption. A loop option repeats the file; it does not by itself supervise the process or restore a dropped stream.
One file or a rotating playlist?
The simple command loops one input. For a queue of different videos, use a workflow that can manage the playlist and transitions you need, and test the exact media combinations. Do not assume a single-file loop command automatically provides scheduling, playlist management, or a clean transition between unlike files.

Continuous streaming is not the same as a complete replay
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. An around-the-clock stream should not be treated as one complete, indefinitely available replay. If viewers need replays, plan separate recordings or scheduled sessions rather than relying on a single endless broadcast. See YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance.
Copyright and reused-content checks
Only stream material you have the rights to broadcast, including music and other embedded audio. A video being prerecorded or looped does not remove copyright obligations or ensure that a channel complies with YouTube monetization policies. Review YouTube’s current copyright guidance and channel monetization policies before building a channel around repeated uploads.

Use Livepush for a hosted schedule channel
Livepush shifts the streaming workflow from your VPS to its hosted service. Its help documentation describes a 24/7 schedule channel that queues videos and loops them, and identifies Creators as the least expensive plan for 24/7 social streaming. The same documentation listed $39 monthly or $32.50 per month on annual billing when checked in 2026; pricing and plan limits can change, so confirm the current terms and that the schedule-channel feature is included before committing.
Livepush also documents a relay workflow that receives an encoder stream and forwards it to configured destinations, alongside a prerecorded MP4 option. Hosted delivery means you do not operate the streaming process on your own VPS, but you still depend on the vendor’s service, plan limits, and your YouTube configuration.

Do not confuse unlimited monthly streaming hours with an actual continuously scheduled channel: Livepush distinguishes its entry paid streaming-hours plan from a 24/7 schedule channel. For its manual YouTube connection method, the help article says the destination must be set up for each event when the channel is not linked, and YouTube comments do not appear in its multi-chat overlay. That caveat applies to the manual method described, not necessarily every connection workflow. See Livepush’s 24/7 channel, plan, and relay documentation for current setup details.

Quick Recap
Troubleshooting the two workflows
FFmpeg exits or YouTube drops the stream
- FFmpeg process stopped: inspect the process output and server logs for input, network, or encoding errors; configure a process supervisor to restart an exited job.
- Stream key or ingest issue: confirm the key and ingest address in YouTube Studio, then restart the publishing process with the correct values.
- VPS cannot sustain output: check CPU load if encoding, outbound bandwidth, and network stability. Stream copy reduces encoding work but only works when the media is compatible.
- Bad or unsupported stream: inspect codecs, container, timestamps, frame rate, bitrate, and keyframe interval; compare the output with YouTube’s current encoder guidance.
Livepush does not behave like a continuous channel
- Hours are available but no 24/7 schedule channel appears: verify that the selected plan includes the schedule-channel feature; monthly hours alone are not the same thing.
- A manual YouTube destination is missing for an event: follow the event-level destination setup described for the manual connection method, or use the channel-link workflow if available to your account.
- Comments are absent from multi-chat: the documented manual YouTube connection method does not show YouTube comments in that overlay.
- Playlist or destination limits block the workflow: check the current plan matrix and configuration before migrating a live channel.
