Why did a BIOS update show up in Windows Update?
Windows Update can manage updates for non-Microsoft drivers relevant to a device. Microsoft’s Windows Update client policies say driver updates are on by default, and that administrators can turn them off. That is general policy context: it does not confirm that Windows Update delivered this particular Lenovo BIOS package, or that every consumer PC receives firmware updates the same way.
To identify what appeared on your PC, record the complete Windows Update entry or package identifier, whether Windows labels it optional, and the BIOS version currently installed. Also note the laptop’s exact machine type. A listing for a model family alone cannot identify the package offered to an individual machine.
Is the Lenovo V15 G3 IAP BIOS update buggy?
There is not enough information to call it buggy. The report does not identify a BIOS version, Windows Update package ID, laptop configuration, or specific failure symptom. The official sources establish that Lenovo lists a BIOS package applicable to the V15 G3 IAP; they do not establish that the package caused a defect or that it appeared in Windows Update on the reported laptop.

Lenovo’s Australian support listing includes the V15 G3 IAP among supported systems for BIOS version JKCN53WW, for Windows 10 (64-bit) and Windows 11 (64-bit). That regional listing gives a release date of 9 July 2026 and was last modified 24 July 2026. Dates and availability may differ on Lenovo support pages for other regions. Check Lenovo’s listing against your exact machine type and local support page.
Lenovo’s notes for JKCN53WW describe security enhancements addressing LEN-213632, CVE-2025-3770, CVE-2024-38798, CVE-2025-31648, CVE-2025-32008, CVE-2025-20080, and CVE-2025-27708. They also mention a change to Fn-key combinations to address some keys being held. These release-note items do not demonstrate that the update caused or fixed the reported Windows Update issue.

Should you install the update?
First make sure the offer corresponds to your exact laptop and determine whether it is newer than the BIOS already installed. Compare the BIOS version and package identifier with the correct regional Lenovo listing, then review its release notes. Do not choose a package based on a broad marketing name alone.
- Open Windows Update and record the complete update name, package identifier, and any optional/recommended status shown.
- Find the installed BIOS version and the laptop’s exact machine type; use these details to match the package to Lenovo’s local support listing.
- Compare the offered version with the installed version and read the release notes for that package.
- If you proceed with Lenovo’s downloaded Windows installer, follow its wizard and confirm the BIOS/platform selection is correct. Lenovo says not to turn off the computer during flashing and that the system will reboot automatically when the process finishes.
The cited sources do not establish the classification of any particular Windows Update offer, so do not infer that an item is optional or mandatory from the general policy documentation alone. If you are unsure whether the package matches your device, pause and check with Lenovo support rather than installing a package for a different machine type.

What if the laptop fails to start after an update?
These sources do not provide model-specific recovery or rollback steps for a V15 G3 IAP that will not start. Lenovo’s specifications mention self-healing BIOS and firmware TPM 2.0 integrated in the SoC, but those general capabilities are not a guarantee of recovery from this incident. Contact Lenovo support or an authorized repair channel for a non-booting system; avoid trying an unverified firmware tool or package.
