Lenovo – 330-15igm: At First Glance
Levono is a major player in the laptop market because it has lots of amazing lineup and series. One of these lineups, which is quite popular and has been around for a while, is the IdeaPad lineup.
This lineup features a wide range of excellent laptops that offers great performance at a reasonable price. One of such laptop is the Lenovo – 330-15igm, which this review article is all about.
This laptop features a 15.6-inch display and numerous configuration options. To make things even better, the laptop is well-priced – it had a starting price of $672.26 when I published this review article in May 2022.
However, this laptop features some major flaws, which will be unveiled in the remaining sections of this article. Hence, to find out, kindly continue reading.
Lenovo – 330-15igm: Design, Dimension, and Weight
To start with, the Lenovo – 330-15igm is available in five different colors. Basically, you can purchase this laptop in blizzard white, platinum grey, onyx black, midnight blue, or chocolate.
Besides, the entire body of the laptop is made of plastic with round edges. As a laptop made entirely of plastic, it is natural to assume that the Lenovo – 330-15igm is fragile.
However, that’s not the case, as the plastic material used to make the laptop’s body is very solid and strong. Hence, this Lenovo laptop should be durable and be able to handle rough handling.
That aside, the glossy finish of the Lenovo – 330-15igm’s body makes it look premium and elegant. Furthermore, on the laptop’s lid, there is a neat “Lenovo” logo inscribed in the top left corner that adds to the overall elegance of the laptop.
Moreover, the lid is attached to the base of the laptop by a long-ridge hinge. Although made of plastic, this hinge is quite solid and prevents the lid from wobbling too much when opened.
Speaking of which, opening this laptop’s lid reveals a 15.6-inch non-touchscreen display. Impressively, Lenovo offers two resolution options for this laptop’s display which are HD (1366 x 768) and FHD (1920 x 1080).
However, this review is based on the Lenovo – 330-15igm with FHD (1920 x 1080) resolution. Thanks to this resolution, this laptop’s display should be able to offer colorful and decently sharp images.
Sadly, this laptop’s display only offers 200 nits of maximum brightness, which I believe isn’t bright enough for well-lit and sunny environments. On a positive note, the laptop’s display features an anti-glare coating.
The essence of the anti-glare coating is to prevent reflections and sun glares on the display’s surface when the laptop is used outdoors. Therefore, using the laptop in well-lit environments should be less bothersome.
Aside from preventing reflections, this anti-glare coating also reduces eye strain when you stare at the display for a long period of time. That aside, the Lenovo – 330-15igm’s 15.6-inch display is surrounded by thick bezels that are made of matte-black plastic.
At the center of the top bezel, you will find an HD webcam that offers a good performance for video calls. However, this webcam isn’t good for taking selfies or groupies, as it produces grainy and blurry images.
Meanwhile, in the center of the bottom bezel, there is a “Lenovo” inscription that beautifies the front view of the laptop’s display.
Moving on, the deck of the Lenovo – 330-15igm features a chiclet-style keyboard. The keys on this keyboard are well-spaced, responsive, and have decent key travel.
As a result, typing on the laptop’s keyboard should be fun and overly comfortable. In case you are wondering, key travel is the total distance between a key’s resting point to full depression.
Underneath the Lenovo – 330-15igm’s keyboard is a spacious touchpad with two in-built click buttons. The surface of this touchpad is smooth, sensitive, and responds to touches swiftly.
Thus, navigating and controlling the cursor with this touchpad should be pleasurable. Besides, the touchpad supports multi-touch gestures such as pinch-to-zoom.
Port-wise, the Lenovo – 330-15igm is excellent. To be more precise, this laptop comes with a reasonable amount of functional ports.
Starting with the left side of the laptop, you will find a USB 2.0 port, a USB 3.1 port, an HDMI port, and an Ethernet 1.4a port. Also on the left side of the laptop is a headphone/microphone combo jack, a DC input, and a 4-in-1 (SD, SDXC, SDHC, MMC) card reader.
Meanwhile, the right side of this laptop only features a DVD burner. For wireless connectivity, the Lenovo – 330-15igm offers Bluetooth 4.1 and an integrated Wi-Fi 802.11ac (1 x 1)/802.11ac (2 x 2).
Having said that, let us now talk about the Lenovo – 330-15igm’s weight and dimensions. This laptop weighs 2200g and measures 378 x 260 x 22.9 mm (W x D x H).
In comparison with the HP Pavilion 15-au063nr, the Lenovo – 330-15igm is heavier and a bit thicker. To be more specific, the HP Pavilion 15-au063nr measures 383 x 243 x 22.5 mm (W x D x H) and weighs 1930 g.
All in all, I will rate the Lenovo – 330-15igm an eight out of ten in this design review section.
Lenovo – 330-15igm: Processor (CPU) Performance
The Lenovo – 330-15igm offers two processor options. Hence, you should be able to purchase the laptop with either an Intel Celeron N4100 processor or an Intel Pentium N5000 processor.
Moreover, these processors are quad-core processors, and they both feature a cache memory of 4 MB each. However, the processors differ in terms of processing speed.
Specifically, the Intel Celeron N4100 processor operates on a base frequency of 1.10 GHz and a maximum frequency of 2.40 GHz. Meanwhile, the Intel Pentium N5000 processor operates on a base frequency of 1.10 GHz and a maximum frequency of 2.70 GHz.
Performance-wise, these processors are not powerful enough to handle demanding tasks like video and photo editing. Also, they might struggle when it comes to running resource-demanding software such as Adobe Photoshop.
Nevertheless, with either of these processors, the Lenovo – 330-15igm should be able to seamlessly carry out basic computing tasks. Hence, you should have no problem performing tasks like video streaming, web browsing, and word processing on the laptop.
Before moving forward, it is important to mention that this review focuses on the Lenovo – 330-15igm with the Intel Pentium N5000 CPU. Thus, to verify how well this laptop can perform with this CPU, we will now talk about its result on the Cinebench R15 test.
In brief, the Cinebench R15 test is a benchmark test that evaluates a computer’s processor’s ability to process data when its cores are in use. Moreover, this test involves two aspects which are the single-core test and the multi-core test.
While the single-core test measures the processor’s performance using one of its cores, the multi-core test does the opposite. It measures the processor’s performance when all its cores are in use.
Besides, the higher the scores on the Cinebench R15 test, the better the performance of the computer’s processor. So, based on the benchmark test result, the Lenovo – 330-15igm scored 77.5 points on the single-core test.
On the multi-core test, however, the laptop delivered a score of 240.2 points. In comparison, this Lenovo laptop has a better performance than the Acer Aspire 1 A114, which also uses the Intel Pentium N5000 processor.
Specifically, the Acer Aspire 1 A114 recorded 78 points on the Cinebench R15 single-core test and 210 points on the multi-core test.
In conclusion, the Lenovo – 330-15igm offers two processor options that are best suited for carrying out basic computing tasks. Also, this laptop beats one of its closest competitors on a processor benchmark test.
Thus, I will rate the Lenovo – 330-15igm an eight out of ten in this processor review section.
Lenovo – 330-15igm: Memory (RAM) Performance
The Lenovo – 330-15igm comes with a DDR4 memory type and a standard memory of 4 GB. Also, this laptop features just one memory slot and supports a maximum memory of 8 GB.
Hence, by removing the standard memory of 4 GB DDR4 RAM in the single slot, you should be able to upgrade the laptop memory up to 8 GB. Nevertheless, with the standard 4 GB RAM, the Lenovo – 330-15igm should be able to multitask decently.
Speaking of which, this laptop with 4 GB RAM will be able to simultaneously run 8 Chrome tabs without lagging. However, switching between the tabs while loading might cause the performance of the laptop to slow down a bit.
In order to further verify the Lenovo – 330-15igm’s performance with 4 GB RAM, let us quickly talk about its result on the PCMark 10 test. If you don’t know, PCMark 10 is a benchmark test that measures a computer’s memory performance by simulating real-world tasks like word processing.
Furthermore, the higher the score on this benchmark test, the better the memory performance of the computer. So, on the test, the Lenovo – 330-15igm scored 1764 points, performing less than the Acer Aspire 1 A115-32, which scored 1879 points.
All things considered, I will rate the Lenovo – 330-15igm a seven out of ten in this memory review section.
Lenovo – 330-15igm: Storage Options And Performance
In terms of storage, the Lenovo – 330-15igm offers two storage options which are SATA HDD and SSD. For storage capacity, the SATA HDD supports a maximum storage capacity of 1 TB.
Meanwhile, the SSD supports a maximum storage capacity of 512 GB. Apparently, the HDD storage option offers a higher storage capacity than the SSD.
Well, this was actually expected as SSDs are known to offer lesser storage capacities than HDDs. However, as SSDs offer lesser storage capacities, they also offer fast transfer speed and fast read and write speed.
Hence, if you prefer speed rather than storage space, I suggest your purchase the Lenovo – 330-15igm with SSD. However, if you prefer storage space rather than speed, then you need to purchase this laptop with SATA HDD.
Besides, the Lenovo – 330-15igm features a 4-in-1 (SD, SDXC, SDHC, MMC) card reader for storage expansion. That said, this review focuses on the Lenovo – 330-15igm that uses SSD.
To test the performance of this laptop with SSD, let us discuss its result on the CrystalDiskMark test. For clarity, CrystalDiskMark is a benchmark test for evaluating how fast a computer’s storage drive is by measuring its read and write speed in MBps.
Hence, the higher the “MBps” value on the benchmark test, the faster the read and write speed of the computer’s storage drive. By the way, read and write speed means how fast a computer’s storage drive can open and save files, respectively.
Thus, based on the result obtained from the CrystalDiskMark test, the Lenovo – 330-15igm recorded a read speed of 550 MBps. Also, the laptop recorded a write speed of 478.2 MBps.
Unfortunately, when compared with the Acer Aspire 3 A315-56, which also uses SSD, the Lenovo – 330-15igm’s read and write speed falls short. Specifically, on the CrystalDiskMark test, the Acer Aspire 3 A315-56 recorded a read and write speed of 900 MBps and 600 MBps, respectively.
All in all, I will rate the Lenovo – 330-15igm an eight out of ten in this storage review section. This is due to the fact that it offers two storage options.
Lenovo – 330-15igm: Graphics Card Performance
Like the processor and storage, the Lenovo – 330-15igm offers multiple graphics card options. Basically, one can purchase this laptop with either of these graphics cards: Intel UHD Graphics 600, Intel UHD Graphics 605, or AMD Radeon 530.
The Intel UHD Graphics 600 and Intel UHD Graphics 605 operate at a base frequency of 300 MHz. However, their boost frequencies differ – the former has a 700 MHz boost frequency while the latter has a 750 MHz boost frequency.
The AMD Radeon 530, on the other hand, has a base and boost frequency of 730 MHz and 1024 MHz, respectively. Also, unlike the Intel graphics card options that are integrated GPUs, this AMD graphics card is a dedicated GPU.
For clarity, integrated GPUs are usually embedded into the computer’s processor, and they lack dedicated VRAM. Hence, in order for them to carry out graphics-related tasks, they have to share the system memory with the CPU.
As a result, they are not usually powerful enough to carry out graphics-demanding tasks or play high-end games. Hence, with either of the Intel graphics card options, the Lenovo – 330-15igm will not be able to effectively handle graphics-intensive tasks, apps, or games.
However, with the AMD Radeon 530 GPU, the case is the exact opposite. This is because, as a dedicated GPU, the graphics card isn’t embedded into the laptop’s processor and features a dedicated VRAM – it has a dedicated VRAM of 2 GB GDDR5.
Hence, with this graphics card, the Lenovo – 330-15igm should be able to carry out graphics-demanding tasks and play some high-end games. Speaking of games, with this GPU, this Lenovo laptop will be able to deliver an impressive 99.6 fps while playing FIFA 20.
That said, to further verify the Lenovo – 330-15igm’s performance with the AMD Radeon 530 GPU, I will be sharing its result on a 3DMark 11 test. Briefly, 3DMark 11 is a benchmark test for measuring the 2D and 3D graphics rendering abilities of a computer.
Moreover, on this test, a high score implies good graphics rendering performance. Hence, based on the result obtained from the 3DMark 11 test, the Lenovo – 330-15igm delivered a score of 2355 points.
Impressively, this laptop’s score smashes the score attained by the Dell Inspiron 17 3790 with over 800 points. To be more specific, the Dell Inspiron 17 3790, which also uses AMD Radeon 620 GPU, scored 1508.5 points on the 3DMark 11 test.
In conclusion, considering that the Lenovo – 330-15igm isn’t a gaming laptop, it offering a dedicated GPU option is quite impressive. As a matter of fact, the laptop beat one of its closest counterparts on a graphics rendering benchmark test.
Putting all these into consideration, I will rate the Lenovo – 330-15igm a nine out of ten in the GPU review section.
Lenovo – 330-15igm: Battery Life and Performance
The Lenovo – 330-15igm offers two battery options which are 30 Whr Li-Polymer and 35 WHr Li-Polymer. According to Lenovo, with the 30 Whr Li-Polymer battery, this laptop should last about 5.5 hours.
Meanwhile, with the 35 WHr Li-Polymer, the laptop should last 6 hours. However, this review article is based on the Lenovo – 330-15igm with a 30 Whr Li-Polymer battery.
To verify if Lenovo’s 5.5 hours battery life claim is true, we will now discuss the laptop’s result on a battery rundown test. For your information, this test involves continuous web browsing over a Wi-Fi connection on the laptop while its display’s brightness is at 150 nits.
Hence, at the end of the battery rundown test, the Lenovo – 330-15igm delivered a battery life of 5 hours and 28 minutes. Obviously, this battery life is almost on par with the 5.5 hours that Lenovo initially claimed.
However, when compared with one of its closest competitors (Acer Aspire 3 A315-56), the Lenovo – 330-15igm’s battery life is quite short. To be more precise, on the same battery rundown test, the Acer Aspire 3 A315-56 delivered a battery life of 6 hours and 40 minutes.
All things considered, I will rate the Lenovo – 330-15igm an eight out of ten in this battery review section.
