These recommendations are based on LEGO’s published features and dimensions, not hands-on comparisons.

Piece counts help describe build scale, but they do not reliably predict how large or striking a finished model will look. Dimensions are available for some of these sets, not all, so compare the stated measurements with your display space rather than treating piece count as a footprint.
Which set suits each display style?
For a classic illuminated pumpkin: Pumpkin Lantern 40872
The lantern is the clearest choice if you want a traditional orange jack-o’-lantern shape and a built-in lighting feature. LEGO’s decor guide says it includes a light brick, a glow-in-the-dark ghost minifigure and a spider. LEGO describes it as a seasonal orange vegetable carved into a classic jack-o’-lantern; the light brick makes it more suited to a window or tabletop centerpiece than the other compact options.
For a door: Halloween Wreath 40825
The wreath is the natural option when the display belongs on a door or wall rather than a shelf. Its pumpkins, web, ghost and bat give it a recognizable Halloween look. LEGO also says it can sit with other seasonal decorations, but it is the only compared set specifically presented as a hanging decoration.

For a playful shelf scene: Pickup Truck 40822
The pickup truck builds a small story around a farmer transporting a large pumpkin. LEGO says the pumpkin opens to hold a smaller pumpkin head and a skull, so the set has a reveal as well as a seasonal silhouette. Choose it over a standalone character if you prefer a miniature scene.
For a character-led autumn display: Owl 40497
The owl brings a less traditionally spooky, more autumnal look. Its rotatable body and movable wings add poseability, while the display base, two pumpkins and autumn flowers fill out the scene. LEGO marks this set retired, so its design may appeal even when a new copy is not readily available.

For a haunted-building vignette: Barn 40721
The barn is a small architectural scene with details to discover: teeth behind the door, a bat and lamp, a decorated eye, a green bottle, a black jar and an old tree. LEGO’s 2024 US retail catalog gives it 205 pieces and dimensions of over 5.5 inches high, 6.5 inches wide and 2.5 inches deep. Those measurements make it a relatively narrow display option, though stock may be seasonal or limited.
For a larger model with rebuild options: Haunted Mansion 31167
The Haunted Mansion is the most substantial choice among the sets here with published dimensions. Its 736 pieces form a house that can be rebuilt as a ship or train, and the set includes five minifigures. The alternate builds give you display variety; they do not establish that it is better built or more impressive than the other options.

For a compact darker accent: Skull Candle 40883
The Skull Candle offers a different mood from the pumpkin-heavy options: a skull-and-candle motif in a 204-piece build, according to LEGO’s Canada 2026 collection. Consider it when you want a smaller, darker seasonal accent rather than a character or scene.

Among the sets with measurements in the available LEGO descriptions, the Haunted Mansion calls for the largest dedicated shelf area: over 9.5 inches high, 9 inches wide and 5.5 inches deep in its house configuration. The Owl and Barn are smaller measured alternatives. LEGO’s decor guidance identifies the wreath as a hanging decoration, but no comparable dimensions are stated here; confirm the finished size and hanging arrangement in your local listing before choosing a spot.

Availability is not uniform by country or season. LEGO’s Canada 2026 collection listed 40872 and 40883 as new products, while its US 2026 collection showed 40822 on backorder. The Owl is explicitly retired, and current stock for seasonal items can vary. Check LEGO’s local store page or your chosen retailer before planning around a particular set; the regional listings are not universal stock guarantees.
For the Halloween Barn, LEGO’s 2024 US retail catalog specifies 205 pieces. BrickLink lists 199 parts, so use LEGO’s figure when describing the retail set rather than presenting the catalog discrepancy as a settled count across databases.
