If Larix Broadcaster is lagging on Jio 4G, start with 720p at 30 fps, measure the upload connection where you will stream, and set Larix’s bitrate below what that connection sustains consistently. Set a two-second keyframe interval, enable an available adaptive-bitrate mode if the uplink fluctuates, and check YouTube’s stream health during a rehearsal. YouTube’s recommended 8 Mbps for H.264 at 720p30 is an encoder guideline—not a promise that Jio 4G can deliver that rate at your location.
Start with settings your connection can sustain
A 4G label does not tell you the upload speed or stability available at your exact location and time. A stream can lag when the connection cannot consistently carry the encoder’s output, even if a speed test occasionally reports a higher peak. Treat the bitrate in Larix as a target, then test and adjust it against the connection you actually have.
Use this conservative starting point for a test stream:
- Resolution and frame rate: 720p at 30 fps.
- Video bitrate: measure upload capacity repeatedly at the broadcast location, then choose a bitrate below the rate it sustains reliably. Do not assume YouTube’s 8 Mbps H.264 recommendation for 720p30 is suitable for an unstable mobile uplink.
- Keyframe interval: 2 seconds; do not exceed 4 seconds.
- Adaptive bitrate: enable an available Larix adaptive mode if upload conditions fluctuate.
There is no established bitrate that works for every Jio 4G connection. Device encoder behavior, location, time and network conditions affect the result.

Measure Jio upload performance at the streaming location
Run repeatable upload tests
Test upload speed at the place and time you expect to stream, and repeat the test rather than relying on one result. Where possible, test under conditions similar to the planned broadcast. Base your starting bitrate on the upload rate that remains available consistently, not the best momentary result.
Jio’s resolution and data-consumption guidance concerns estimated data use for video viewing. It does not establish Jio 4G upload speed for live broadcasts, so those consumption estimates should not be used to choose an encoder bitrate: Jio’s video data-consumption guidance.

Record your setup before changing it
Note your device model, operating system, Larix version, resolution, frame rate, codec and bitrate. Larix uses system encoders, and the controls and actual encoder behavior can vary by platform and device. Having these details makes it easier to compare tests and identify whether a setting is being applied as expected.
Set Larix and YouTube Live for a test
- Choose 720p30 in Larix. Use it as a practical starting point, not a guarantee of smooth streaming. YouTube’s recommended H.264 video bitrate is 8 Mbps at 720p30, but a lower target may be necessary if your measured uplink is inconsistent. YouTube’s full encoder guidance covers supported protocols, codecs and settings: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates and resolutions.
- Set bitrate below the reliably sustained upload rate. Leave room for variation instead of matching a peak speed test. Larix’s configured bitrate is a target; it is not necessarily the rate the device can maintain under changing network conditions.
- Set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds. YouTube recommends two seconds and says not to exceed four seconds. An interval longer than that can be flagged as a configuration issue.
- Use an available adaptive-bitrate mode if the uplink varies. Softvelum documents logarithmic descent, ladder ascend and hybrid modes, with availability and behavior depending on protocol and platform. Check which options your Larix version and device actually provide, then rehearse with the selected mode. See the Larix Broadcaster FAQ.
- Rehearse with representative audio and movement. Test the kind of motion and sound you expect in the real stream. YouTube recommends testing before going live, including audio and movement similar to the planned broadcast.
- Watch YouTube stream health during the rehearsal. Use its diagnostics to check for configuration problems such as low or high bitrate, high frame rate or a keyframe interval that is too long. Stream status and health diagnostics are described in the YouTube Live Streaming API documentation.
Reduce lag methodically if the test still struggles
Change one setting at a time and repeat the same representative test. Otherwise, it is difficult to tell which adjustment helped.

- Lower bitrate first. If the stream health information or visible playback suggests the uplink cannot keep up, reduce Larix’s target bitrate and test again.
- Then reduce resolution or frame rate if needed. If a lower bitrate alone does not resolve the problem, step down from 720p30 and test again. YouTube lists 8 Mbps for H.264 at 720p60 and 14 Mbps at 1080p30; these are recommended encoder rates, not suitable targets for every mobile connection.
- Review adaptive mode and device behavior. Confirm the chosen mode is available for your protocol and platform and observe how it behaves during changing conditions. Softvelum notes that frame-rate settings may act as recommendations rather than exact controls because Larix uses system encoders. On Android, a device may enforce a quality floor under VBR, so a very low entered bitrate may not be honored exactly.
- Compare the same test conditions. Repeat the rehearsal at the same location and under similar conditions, and compare stream health as well as viewer-facing lag.
Understand YouTube’s encoder recommendations
YouTube’s recommended H.264 video bitrates are 8 Mbps for 720p30, 8 Mbps for 720p60 and 14 Mbps for 1080p30. Its guidance also recommends a two-second keyframe interval (no more than four seconds), CBR encoding, and AAC or MP3 audio. It supports RTMP/RTMPS, H.264/H.265/AV1 and frame rates up to 60 fps; YouTube recommends RTMPS, which encrypts data through its servers. These platform recommendations describe encoder settings, not the upload capacity available on a particular Jio connection. Consult YouTube’s current guidance before changing protocol or codec settings: YouTube live encoder settings.
Common causes and fixes
| What you notice | What to check | What to try |
|---|---|---|
| Playback stutters or drops frames | Whether the sustained upload rate can carry Larix’s bitrate; YouTube stream-health diagnostics | Lower bitrate, test again, then reduce resolution or frame rate if necessary. |
| Lag appears as network conditions change | Whether your Larix version and protocol offer an adaptive-bitrate mode | Enable an available mode and rehearse to observe its behavior. |
| Changing the frame-rate setting has little effect | Device and operating-system encoder behavior | Check the actual stream and YouTube diagnostics; Larix’s frame-rate setting may be a recommendation rather than an exact control. |
| A low bitrate entered on Android does not seem to take effect | Whether VBR and the device’s quality floor are affecting the target | Check Larix’s actual behavior and use a test to find a stable setting rather than assuming the entered value is enforced exactly. |
| YouTube reports a configuration issue | Reported bitrate, frame rate and keyframe interval | Adjust the specific flagged setting and run another rehearsal. |
