What is KWordQuiz?
KDE describes KWordQuiz as a general-purpose flashcard program for vocabulary and many other subjects. Its two-column format suits pairs such as a word and its translation, a term and its definition, or a question and its answer. The program combines an editor with five flashcard quiz modes. KDE’s application page categorizes it under Education and lists its license as GPL-2.0+.
The application page uses the display name “WordQuiz,” while its URL and documentation identify the program as KWordQuiz. KDE says contributed files can be downloaded within the application, but does not specify their breadth or guarantee the current availability or quality of particular decks.
How do I make flashcards in KWordQuiz?
- Create a vocabulary document: Open KWordQuiz and enter each pair of items in the document’s two columns.
- Label the columns: Rename them to describe the information, such as “Question” and “Answer” or the names of two languages.
- Choose a practice mode: Start a flashcard session, multiple-choice quiz, or question-and-answer quiz.
- Set the practice direction and order: Choose which column supplies the question and which supplies the answer, or use both; select sequential or random order.
- Use feedback and hints: The handbook documents immediate feedback for correct and incorrect answers, a hint function, and an option to repeat errors.
These are documented functions, not evidence that the program produces a particular improvement in retention or learning outcomes.

What file formats does KWordQuiz support?
KVTML is KWordQuiz’s default vocabulary format and is shared with other KDE programs. The handbook documents saving in KVTML and CSV, and says the program should also open several other formats:

The handbook also describes working with multiple files at once and copying or moving entries between them. If a legacy file is important, check it with the KWordQuiz version you have installed rather than assuming that every file will import reliably.
Can KWordQuiz print flashcards?
Yes. The handbook documents printing a vocabulary list, a vocabulary exam, or flashcards. The exam leaves the answer column blank and adds a scoring column. For flashcards, it specifies two 3 × 5-inch cards per landscape page. Actual layout and cutting can depend on printer capability, paper, margins, and print-dialogue settings.
That makes 3 × 5-inch index cards a relevant optional consumable if you want to study on paper; they are not required to use KWordQuiz. The documented dimensions do not identify a particular brand or verify compatibility with a specific product.

Where can I get KWordQuiz?
KDE describes Linux installation through Discover or a distribution’s package manager and also lists Windows as a platform. Availability and packaging can vary by system. The application page provides links to help, bug reporting, source code, and community contact information. Its release listing included version 26.08.1 dated 2026-09-10; that dated entry does not establish which version is newest today. Check KDE’s application page for current information.
