Kora announced One Rail on September 29, 2026, adding stablecoin capabilities to its merchant payment infrastructure. The service is designed to let merchants collect and hold USDT or USDC, track deposits through Kora’s APIs, and convert funds into supported local fiat for payout. At launch, Kora says settlement workflows include a manual step, so the announcement does not establish fully automated stablecoin-to-bank settlement.

What Kora’s One Rail announcement means

Kora describes One Rail as an extension of its payment infrastructure, bringing stablecoin rails alongside traditional fiat options. The company says merchants can collect, hold, convert, and settle digital currencies using its APIs and existing developer tools. Its broader platform is described as spanning local bank rails, mobile money, card networks, and stablecoin rails; these are company-provided descriptions, not an independent assessment of coverage or performance. Kora’s September 29, 2026 announcement

The initial rollout focuses on collections, payouts, and treasury. Kora says merchants can generate dedicated wallets, track payments in real time, reconcile transactions, maintain digital-dollar balances, and convert supported stablecoins into local fiat. It describes settlement to local bank accounts through its payout rails, while explicitly noting that the initial settlement workflows are manual. The announcement does not specify settlement times, fees, supported country-by-country corridors, or whether every step can be automated.

Which stablecoins and networks are supported?

Kora named Tether (USDT) and USD Coin (USDC) as the initial stablecoins. It says other major USD-backed stablecoins could be added later depending on demand and regulatory and operational readiness; no timing or additional assets are specified. Kora’s launch announcement

Wallets are configured for one currency-and-network combination. How the documented payment-receipt flow works

Kora’s guide describes stablecoin deposits as customer-initiated transfers from an external wallet or exchange. Kora is not described as originating those transfers. For a merchant integrating the documented acceptance flow, the sequence is:

  1. Prepare the account. Kora says the merchant needs an account with approved compliance details and documents, then must retrieve API keys from the dashboard. Kora’s stablecoin developer guide
  2. Create a customer wallet. Use the API to create a wallet for the specific currency and network the customer will use.
  3. Configure webhooks. Set up webhook notifications so the merchant’s system can learn when a deposit completes.
  4. Verify the transaction. Use Kora’s Charge Query API to check the transaction. Kora says it can notify the merchant after the on-chain payment completes.

Webhook notification and API verification provide the documented path for recognizing and checking a deposit. The guide does not establish that a notification alone replaces transaction verification or describe a recovery process for transfers sent incorrectly.

What is—and is not—established about payouts

Kora’s launch announcement says merchants can convert stablecoin balances into supported local fiat and settle to local bank accounts through its payout rails. Its general pay-in and payout documentation lists USDT and USDC, but available payment methods and corridors vary by market. The cited documentation does not support assuming that every stablecoin, bank destination, or local currency is available in every country. Kora pay-in documentation · Kora payout documentation

The announcement’s mention of “real-time tracking” refers to tracking capability; it does not provide a guaranteed time for conversion or bank settlement. It also supplies no fee schedule, exchange-rate methodology, or country-by-country availability table. Merchants assessing a particular corridor should confirm the supported asset, network, recipient country, settlement currency, timing, and charges in Kora’s current documentation and account materials.

How to interpret Kora’s market claims

Kora CEO and founder Dickson Nsofor’s launch announcement says cross-border remittance costs average 8–8.8%, compared with a 6.49% global average, and that stablecoin ownership in Africa is 78%. Those numbers are claims attributed to Nsofor in the announcement; it does not identify an underlying study, measurement period, definition of “stablecoin ownership,” country coverage, or calculation method. They should not be treated as independently verified statistics on the basis of that announcement alone. Kora’s September 29, 2026 announcement

Nsofor also said One Rail “levels the playing field” by enabling merchants to integrate stablecoin payments into their existing stack. That is the company’s product positioning, not evidence that cost savings, speed, or business growth have been independently measured.

What merchants should confirm before integrating

  • Whether the specific customer country, recipient country, payment method, and settlement currency are currently supported.
  • Which exact currency-and-network combination each wallet accepts, and how the business will communicate it to customers.
  • Applicable conversion rates, fees, settlement timing, and whether settlement is manual for the intended workflow.
  • How webhook events and Charge Query API checks fit into internal reconciliation and exception handling.
  • What compliance documentation Kora requires for the merchant’s account and intended markets.

Kora announced One Rail as a way to bring stablecoin collection and payouts into its existing merchant infrastructure. The documentation describes a concrete API-based deposit flow and names initial assets and networks; details such as corridor coverage, costs, timing, and recovery procedures require confirmation for the merchant’s specific use case.
