For the 12th-generation 2024 models, the Paperwhite Signature Edition’s documented advantages are 32 GB of internal storage instead of 16 GB and support for wireless charging. The standard Paperwhite uses USB-C charging. Amazon lists the same core reading features and battery estimate for both, so the choice comes down mainly to whether you want the extra space or wireless charging.
Which Kindle models does this comparison cover?
This is a comparison of the 12th-generation Kindle Paperwhite and Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition, both 2024 releases. Earlier generations may differ. Amazon’s Kindle identification page lists the specifications below.
What’s different between the 2024 Paperwhite models?
| Feature | Kindle Paperwhite | Paperwhite Signature Edition |
|---|---|---|
| Internal storage | 16 GB | 32 GB |
| Storage Amazon reports as available to the user | About 11.5 GB | About 25 GB |
| Wireless charging | Not listed as a feature | Supported with a compatible Qi-certified charger |
| Wired charging | USB-C | USB-C |
The available-storage figures are Amazon’s estimates; they are lower than the internal capacity. The extra capacity may matter if you keep a large library downloaded, but its value depends on how much content you store on the device.
Wireless charging requires a compatible charger
Amazon confirms that the 2024 Signature Edition supports wired and wireless charging. Wireless charging requires a compatible Qi-certified charger, which is sold separately. Amazon’s Kindle Paperwhite setup guidance and wireless-charging troubleshooting guidance name the Signature Edition as compatible and recommend a Made for Amazon dock or another compatible Qi-certified charging device. Check compatibility and the current product listing before buying a charger.

Is the Paperwhite Signature Edition worth it?
Choose the standard Paperwhite if…
- Its 16 GB of internal storage suits the amount of content you download.
- USB-C charging works for your routine.
Choose the Signature Edition if…
- You want 32 GB of internal storage for a larger downloaded library.
- You specifically want the option to charge wirelessly and are willing to use a compatible Qi-certified charger.
Neither choice is supported by evidence of faster performance, longer battery life, a superior screen, or a different reading experience. Amazon lists the same core features for both and documents storage and wireless charging as the distinctions.
