Isaiah Williams had an opportunity to work as the Jets’ No. 2 wide receiver behind Garrett Wilson against Chicago on October 4, 2026, with Adonai Mitchell out because of a finger injury. That is a short-term opening tied to the Week 4 absences—not confirmation of a permanent promotion or a guaranteed increase in targets.
Why Williams’ role could grow against Chicago
Mitchell’s absence created an opportunity for Williams to work behind Wilson. The Jets’ Friday, October 2 injury report also listed tight end Mason Taylor as out and tight end Kenyon Sadiq as questionable. Those absences could leave more routes or targets available, but the team did not quantify how it would distribute them.
The injury statuses reflect the report as of Friday, October 2, before the scheduled game. They do not establish what happened on game day.
What Williams had done through three games
Williams had played at least 80% of the Jets’ offensive snaps in each of the previous two games, according to the October 2 CBS Sports/RotoWire report. It did not give an exact percentage for either game. A high snap share means he was on the field often; it does not by itself show how frequently he was targeted.

| 2026 game | Receptions | Receiving yards | Touchdowns |
|---|---|---|---|
| Week 1 vs. Tennessee | 1 | 7 | 0 |
| Week 2 vs. Green Bay | 6 | 34 | 0 |
| Week 3 vs. Detroit | 1 | 21 | 0 |
| Through three games | 8 | 62 | 0 |
The Jets’ official game log records those totals. Williams’ Week 3 line—one catch for 21 yards—shows why the possible role opening should not be mistaken for established receiving volume.
What the opportunity means for fantasy decisions
Williams’ playing time and his production tell different parts of the story: he had been on the field for at least 80% of snaps in each of two games, but had eight catches for 62 yards and no touchdowns through three games. Mitchell’s absence could increase Williams’ routes or chances to see the ball, yet the available reports do not support a specific target count or fantasy-point projection.

- Snap share: Williams was already seeing substantial playing time in the prior two games, though the exact percentages were not reported.
- Production: His official three-game totals were eight receptions, 62 yards and no touchdowns.
- Availability: Mitchell and Mason Taylor were listed out, while Sadiq was questionable on Friday, October 2.
- Uncertainty: The role report does not say how vacant routes or targets would be reassigned, nor does it establish a lasting depth-chart change.
For a Week 4 lineup call, treat Williams as a player with a plausible opportunity increase, not a proven high-volume option. The case for him becomes stronger only if the expected routes translate into meaningful targets; the role note alone cannot answer that.

The report described an opportunity for the Bears game, not a season-long promotion. Whether Williams keeps a larger role depends on subsequent availability and how the Jets distribute playing time and targets. The October 2 information does not establish his eventual Week 4 usage or receiving totals.
