That was a pregame expectation—not confirmation that he ultimately dressed.
Is Jacob Trouba playing against the Kings?
As of the Oct. 2 status report, Trouba was still expected to play in San Jose’s Oct. 3 game against Los Angeles. RotoWire relayed the update from Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News: Trouba was battling an illness but expected to play Saturday.
The Sharks’ 2026–27 opening roster lists Trouba as a defenseman. The game was scheduled for 7 p.m. at SAP Center, according to the Sharks’ official schedule.
What was known about his illness and possible workload?
The report did not identify the illness or describe its severity. It said Trouba could see reduced use if he was not feeling fully well, but did not report that the coaching staff had made a specific workload plan. Being expected to be available did not guarantee his usual ice time.

How had Trouba played in the previous game?
In San Jose’s 4–3 overtime win over Florida on Oct. 1, Trouba recorded no points, two shots, three hits, one blocked shot and five penalty minutes in 22:35 of ice time, according to the RotoWire update.
What is Trouba’s role with San Jose?
The Sharks announced a four-year contract for Trouba on July 1, 2026, with an average annual value of $8.25 million. In the prior season, he recorded 35 points—10 goals and 25 assists—in 81 games for Anaheim, according to the Sharks’ signing announcement.
