Seeing activity records on a Windows PC does not, by itself, prove that someone is spying on you. Ashampoo Privacy Inspector 3 is a Windows utility for showing locally stored usage and internet traces and for changing selected Windows privacy settings. Microsoft separately documents diagnostic data sent to Microsoft for security, reliability, troubleshooting and product improvement. The key is to distinguish a record that exists on your device from unauthorized surveillance.
What Ashampoo Privacy Inspector 3 actually shows
Ashampoo’s documentation describes Privacy Inspector 3 as a viewer and cleanup tool for traces Windows and applications may leave locally. Its manual says the Activities module lists past activity by time, supports filtering and allows deletion of non-critical entries.
Activity and usage records
The product help describes used objects such as recently used files and folders, along with websites, sessions and browser data. These records indicate that information was retained on the computer; they do not identify an unauthorized observer or establish that a malicious program collected it.
Internet and DNS traces
Internet Cleaner scans for unneeded internet-related files. The DNS cache module lists cached domain entries and can clear them. Clearing a local cache removes that copy from the device, not information already shared with a website, application or online service.

Privacy settings and additional searches
The Privacy module can adjust selected Windows settings that collect or share data with Microsoft and provides apply and restore options. Ashampoo’s product materials also advertise searches for additional records, USB-device history and alternate data streams (ADS). These are vendor-described capabilities, not independent findings that a particular PC is under surveillance. See the feature explanation and screenshots for the documented categories.
What Windows diagnostic data means
Microsoft says Windows diagnostic information helps keep products secure and up to date, troubleshoot problems and improve products. Its Windows 10 and Windows 11 privacy guidance distinguishes required and optional diagnostic-data categories and documents additional controls for sending app activity and browsing-history data to Microsoft.

Microsoft describes the relationship this way: “Together, diagnostics and feedback are how you and your Windows device tell Microsoft what’s really going on.” That statement explains the stated purpose of telemetry; it is not evidence that every local activity record is transmitted, nor that data collection is covert spying. To assess a specific concern, identify the data category, its destination and the Windows setting governing it.
How to inspect your own PC without over-interpreting the results
- Review Activities. Open Privacy Inspector’s Activities module, sort or filter by time and note which records are present before deleting anything.
- Check browser and internet categories. Review websites, sessions, browser data, internet traces and DNS entries separately. A domain in a cache can reflect normal browsing, background software or a network lookup.
- Inspect Privacy settings. Examine each proposed Windows change, apply only settings you understand and retain the restore path for settings you later need to reverse.
- Investigate unusual evidence independently. An unexpected account login, unknown installed software, unexplained remote-access tool or security alert requires checking Windows Security, account activity and network details; a history list alone cannot make that diagnosis.
Cleanup has practical side effects
Ashampoo warns that cookies can contain login credentials. Deleting them may sign you out and require authentication again unless important cookies are marked safe. Treat cleanup as a convenience-versus-privacy choice, not as a way to retract information already delivered to an online service.

File wiping overwrites selected areas, and the manual describes scanning and deleting selected alternate data streams. Use those functions deliberately: deletion can remove information you need for troubleshooting or recovery, and it does not prove that no other copy exists.

Neither source supplies an independent test showing that Privacy Inspector detects spyware, and the available documentation does not establish a comparative accuracy rate.

Requirements and activation
Ashampoo’s current requirements page lists Windows 10 and Windows 11, including Windows 11 ARM, and support for Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome and Chromium-based Microsoft Edge. It states that full administrator rights are required, internet access is needed for activation, and the license is checked repeatedly at regular intervals. The page lists a minimum 1280×768 display resolution and recommends 1920×1080. Verify the page before installation because compatibility and licensing conditions can change.

Privacy Inspector can help you inventory traces, but a surveillance conclusion needs corroboration. Look for a specific process or remote-access application you do not recognize, unexplained account or security events, network connections that persist when no related program should be active, or changes you can reproduce after removing a suspect application. Keep the original timestamps and logs, update Windows and security software, and seek specialist help if an account or device appears compromised.
