That is a critical judgment, not a settled fact. It depends on how much you value character chemistry, pacing, exploration, action, and the ending’s payoff over Nathan Drake’s longer character arc or another entry’s spectacle.
What The Lost Legacy is—and what makes it distinct
Naughty Dog’s UNCHARTED: The Lost Legacy is a standalone adventure released on August 22, 2017. Instead of Nathan Drake, it follows treasure hunter Chloe Frazer, who enlists mercenary Nadine Ross to find the Golden Tusk of Ganesh in India’s Western Ghats. PlayStation describes the setting as the south-western coast of the Indian peninsula and the former Hoysala Empire, with urban, jungle, and ancient-ruin environments. The location is more than a generic backdrop: the hunt ties the adventure to a specific landscape and the history the game presents. PlayStation’s game page lists the title for PS4 and PS5.

Its standalone identity is central to the case for ranking it first. GameSpot’s roundup quotes reviewer Miguel Concepcion describing an opening with an “Uncharted Greatest Hits” feel that develops into a more nuanced adventure, one that makes its own mark without being anchored to Nathan Drake’s exploits. The useful distinction is not that The Lost Legacy abandons what makes the series recognizable; it uses that familiar framework to shift the emotional focus to two different leads. GameSpot’s series roundup captures that critical framing.
Why Chloe and Nadine make the case for the series’ best
A different kind of character dynamic
Nathan Drake’s adventures are built around his history, relationships, and the consequences of returning to treasure hunting. The Lost Legacy instead places Chloe and Nadine together: both are capable, but they arrive with distinct motives and a complicated history. Their pairing changes the rhythm of the story. Rather than asking how Nathan’s past will shape another expedition, the game can focus on whether these two can work together and what each is willing to risk.

#1 Best Overall
- Critically-acclaimed developer Naughty Dog's standalone Uncharted adventure starring Chloe Frazer.
- Venture deep into India's Western Ghats as Chloe and Nadine recover an ancient artifact and fight their way through fierce opposition to prevent the region from falling into chaos.
- UNCHARTED: The Lost Legacy will come with access to UNCHARTED 4: A Thief's End Multiplayer and Survival modes. Online multiplayer on PS4 requires a PlayStation Plus membership, sold separately.
- Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) Content Description: Blood, language, suggestive themes, use of alcohol and tobacco, violence
That makes the story feel self-contained without making it feel detached from the series. Chloe is already a recognizable figure in the franchise, while Nadine brings a perspective shaped by her earlier role as an antagonist. Their uneasy partnership gives the adventure a new emotional center, and the Golden Tusk hunt gives that partnership a clear objective.
A compact adventure with room to explore
The game’s shorter, more concentrated scope is an advantage if you want a complete Uncharted story without committing to another sprawling Nathan Drake chapter. It still draws on the series’ mix of puzzle solving, platforming, and gunfights, as listed on the PlayStation Store page. The combination lets the adventure alternate between movement, combat, and discovery instead of relying on one mode throughout.
Rank #2
- From award-winning developer Naughty Dog comes a brand new Uncharted game, starring Chloe Frazer.
- Dynamic game play; cinematic combat; exploration
- Complex puzzles; jaw-dropping environments
Exploration also fits the premise: a hunt for the Golden Tusk leads through the Western Ghats’ varied environments, giving the adventure a distinct sense of place. The broader series can be more spectacular or more expansive, but The Lost Legacy benefits from keeping its journey focused on Chloe, Nadine, and the treasure they are pursuing.
Familiar set pieces, a different payoff
The game’s action and traversal preserve the cinematic pleasures expected of Uncharted, while the two-lead story gives familiar danger a different interpersonal tension. Its payoff matters because the treasure hunt is not only a race to reach an artifact: Chloe’s journey also makes her confront her past and decide what she will sacrifice to shape her legacy. That gives the adventure’s resolution a character-specific purpose rather than making spectacle the only measure of success.
Rank #3
- From critically acclaimed developer Naughty Dog comes the first standalone adventure in Uncharted franchise history led by fan-favourite character, Chloe Frazer
- In order to recover a fabled ancient Indian artifact and keep it out of the hands of a ruthless war profiteer, Chloe Frazer must enlist the aid of renowned mercenary Nadine Ross (from Uncharted 4: A Thief's End)
- Venturing deep into India’s Western Ghats mountain range, Chloe and Nadine must learn to work together to unearth the artefact and fight their way through fierce opposition to prevent the region from falling into chaos
- Uncharted: The Lost Legacy will come with access to Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End Multiplayer and Survival modes; online multiplayer on PS4 requires a PlayStation Plus membership
- The "Uncharted" free download code is included inside the box - play with up to six friends
How it compares with Uncharted 2 and Uncharted 4
There is no objective scale that settles which Uncharted is best. The most useful comparison is what each game emphasizes and what you want from the series.
| Game | Character focus | Scope and pacing | Why it may rank first |
|---|---|---|---|
| Uncharted: The Lost Legacy | Chloe Frazer and Nadine Ross lead a standalone story. | A concentrated treasure hunt through urban, jungle, and ruin settings in India’s Western Ghats. | Best fit if you value the Chloe–Nadine dynamic, a focused adventure, and a fresh lead pairing. |
| Uncharted 2: Among Thieves | Nathan Drake leads the adventure. | A full Nathan-led series chapter; the cited sources do not establish a comparable length. | Best fit if you prefer a Nathan Drake story or rank this entry’s particular blend of action and adventure highest. Metacritic’s listing showed a score of 96 when accessed October 3, 2026; that aggregator score is context, not a verdict. |
| Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End | Nathan Drake leads a story centered on his arc. | A full Nathan-led series chapter; the cited sources do not establish a comparable length. | Best fit if Nathan’s character arc is more important to you than a standalone story led by Chloe and Nadine. |
The table is a way to clarify priorities, not to pretend every quality can be measured on one scale. The available critical framing supports The Lost Legacy as a strong standalone contender; it does not prove that it is more acclaimed than every other entry. Metacritic’s listing for Uncharted 2 is an aggregator comparison, and its score cannot determine which game’s characters or pacing you will prefer.
Rank #4
- N order to recover a fabled ancient Indian artifact and keep it out of the hands of a ruthless war profiteer, Chloe Frazer must enlist the aid of renowned mercenary Nadine Ross (from Uncharted 4: A Thief's End)
- venturing deep into India's Western Ghats mountain range, Chloe and Nadine must learn to work together to unearth the artefact and fight their way through fierce opposition to prevent the region from falling into chaos
Who should choose The Lost Legacy?
- Choose it first if you want a standalone Uncharted story with Chloe and Nadine at its center.
- Choose it first if a focused treasure hunt and exploration matter more to you than following Nathan Drake’s wider arc.
- Start with Uncharted 2 or Uncharted 4 if your main reason for playing is Nathan’s story or the particular spectacle you associate with those entries.
