Usually not for young children. The 2026 live-action Street Fighter is rated PG-13 in the United States for violence/action, bloody images, strong language, sexual references, partial nudity and brief smoking. Expect frequent martial-arts fights, weapons, injuries, explosions, profanity and brief alcohol or tobacco use. Some mature teens may be comfortable with it, but most children under 13 are unlikely to be a good fit.
Which Street Fighter movie is this guide about?
This guide covers Paramount’s live-action theatrical film scheduled for October 16, 2026. The story is set in 1993 and follows Ryu (Andrew Koji), Ken Masters (Noah Centineo) and Chun-Li (Callina Liang) during a dangerous World Warrior Tournament and a wider conspiracy. Paramount’s synopsis describes Ryu and Ken being recruited by Chun-Li for “a brutal clash of fists, fate, and fury.”
The runtime is 119 minutes, according to Common Sense Media and the Australian Classification, both reporting in 2026. The length means children are exposed to sustained action rather than a short, lightly toned-down adventure.
What age ratings does Street Fighter 2026 have?
| Country or territory | Rating and consumer advice | What it signals for parents |
|---|---|---|
| United States | PG-13 for “violence/action, bloody images, strong language, sexual references, partial nudity and brief smoking” | Parents are urged to use special caution for children under 13. |
| Australia | M for mature themes, violence and coarse language | Content is not legally restricted to adults, but is intended for mature audiences and may be unsuitable for younger children. |
| Alberta, Canada | Parental Guidance for violence and coarse language | Parents should decide whether the intensity and language suit their child. |
| British Columbia, Canada | Parental Guidance; physical assault, injury and/or weapons; about 16 instances of coarse language; non-sexual buttock nudity; two instances of sexual innuendo | The classification specifically flags repeated fighting, weapons, language and limited sexual material. |
| India | UA 16+ certificate dated October 9, 2026 | Viewers under 16 require parental guidance under the Indian classification. |
National systems use different labels and thresholds, so a PG-13, M, Parental Guidance or UA 16+ certificate cannot be converted into one universal age. Taken together, they consistently position the film as teen-oriented action, not children’s entertainment.

How violent or frightening is the movie?
Violence is the dominant content issue. The fights are stylized and connected to a martial-arts tournament, but they are not bloodless or consequence-free.
Frequent hand-to-hand combat
- Characters punch, kick, slam, choke and throw one another.
- People are hurled through walls and against hard surfaces.
- Weapons are used during confrontations, and tasers or other electrical shocks appear.
- Explosions and dangerous set pieces create sustained peril rather than isolated comic scuffles.
Injury and blood detail
The U.S. rating explicitly cites bloody images, and Alberta’s classification notes blood and injury detail. Descriptions from Common Sense Media and the Canadian classifications include burns, broken limbs, people being set on fire and a person exploding into ash. These moments may be fantastical, but a child who is sensitive to injury, burning or body-impact effects could find them disturbing.
How intense is it compared with a typical family action film?
The combination of repeated fights, weapons, explosions and visible injuries makes this more intense than a light superhero comedy or a largely bloodless animated adventure. The PG-13 label is therefore important even for children who already watch action movies: familiarity with martial-arts choreography does not remove the film’s blood, peril or frightening imagery.

Yes. Common Sense Media reports one use of the f-word, along with profanity including “s–t,” “a–hole,” “goddamn,” “bitch,” “ass” and “bastard,” plus religious profanity. Consumer Protection BC records approximately 16 instances of coarse language in total. The exact wording and frequency can vary in edited versions shown in different territories, but parents should expect repeated coarse language rather than a single mild expression.

Does Street Fighter 2026 contain sex, nudity or sexual references?
Sexual material is limited compared with the fighting, but it is part of the official U.S. rating and the Canadian classification.
- Sexual references and two instances of sexual innuendo are reported by the classifications.
- Some costumes are revealing or skimpy, and the film includes objectifying presentation and seductive dancing.
- There is comic, non-sexual male-buttock nudity.
- Partial nudity is included in the U.S. rating explanation.
There is no indication that the film is centered on sexual relationships or explicit sexual activity. The concern for families is instead brief references, presentation and nudity that some younger viewers may not be ready to see.

Substance use is brief and infrequent rather than a drug-focused storyline. The U.S. rating cites brief smoking. Alberta’s consumer advice notes recreational tobacco and alcohol use, while Common Sense Media describes a main character drinking to excess and passing out. These scenes may matter to families who avoid depictions of intoxication or smoking, even though they are not the film’s main subject. The available descriptions do not identify a sustained focus on illegal drugs.

What positive themes and role models does the film offer?
Common Sense Media identifies communication, teamwork, discipline and perseverance as positive themes. Characters must cooperate and persist through difficult training and tournament challenges, which may give older teens useful discussion points about trust, responsibility and handling conflict.
The messages are mixed. Characters frequently use violence to solve problems, and Ken is described as a hard partier with a large ego. Parents who are concerned about modeling respectful conflict resolution should be ready to discuss the difference between stylized tournament combat and acceptable behavior outside the screen.
Is Street Fighter too violent for a 12-year-old?
For most 12-year-olds, it is a cautious “probably.” A 12-year-old who is sensitive to blood, burns, choking, explosions or people being injured may find the film upsetting. Strong profanity, partial nudity and sexual references add concerns that are separate from the action.

A child who already handles intense PG-13 action without distress may be less affected, but the U.S. rating still calls for parental guidance. Age-by-age guidance for families
Children under 13
Generally not recommended. The combination of bloody action, frequent fights, strong language and sexualized material is more mature than most children’s films. Younger children may also struggle with the film’s sustained peril and frightening injury imagery.
Ages 13 to 15
Parental guidance is appropriate. Consider the individual viewer’s sensitivity to blood, body-impact violence, profanity, nudity and intoxication. Watching together lets you explain that the tournament setting is fictional while still acknowledging the consequences shown on screen.
Older teens
Often a reasonable fit for teenagers who are comfortable with strong action content. Parents should still flag the f-word and other profanity, sexual references, partial or buttock nudity, smoking and the scene involving excessive drinking.

Questions to ask before choosing a screening
- How does your child react to realistic injury? Burns, broken limbs, blood and people being set on fire may be more important than the fantasy setting.
- Are strong or religious swear words acceptable in your home? There is one reported f-word and additional coarse and religious profanity.
- Would brief nudity or sexual innuendo be uncomfortable? The film includes revealing outfits, seductive dancing, partial nudity and comic male-buttock nudity.
- Does your child imitate fighting? Explain that choreography and tournament combat are performed for a story and are not safe behavior to copy.
- Will the 119-minute runtime be manageable? A long, intense action film can be tiring for younger viewers even when they enjoy the franchise.
What parents should know about the film’s premise
The 1993 setting and tournament structure place the characters in a heightened, fictional world. Ryu and Ken are estranged fighters, and Chun-Li brings them into the next World Warrior Tournament while a deadly conspiracy unfolds. That premise explains why combat is constant, but it does not make the content suitable for children by default: the classifications reflect the way the fights, language and mature references are presented.

How the classifications differ from one another
The labels emphasize different aspects of the same movie. The U.S. PG-13 explanation lists the broadest set of triggers, including bloody images, sexual references, partial nudity and smoking. Australia’s M advice groups the concerns as mature themes, violence and coarse language. Alberta and British Columbia use Parental Guidance, with British Columbia supplying more detail about approximately 16 coarse-language instances, physical assault, injury, weapons, buttock nudity and two sexual-innuendo instances. India’s UA 16+ certificate sets a higher numerical threshold for unsupervised viewing than the North American advisories.
These differences are normal: each board applies its own standards and terminology. They should not be read as evidence that one territory received a materially different level of content.
Practical viewing plan for parents
- Read the local rating first. Use the classification that applies where you live; do not assume a foreign label has the same legal meaning.
- Match the warnings to your child. Focus on blood and injury, strong language, nudity, sexual references and intoxication, not only the age number.
- Set expectations before the movie starts. Tell younger teens that the film contains repeated martial-arts violence, weapons, profanity and brief mature material.
- Watch together if you are uncertain. A shared screening allows immediate discussion and gives your child an easy way to pause or stop.
- Do not encourage imitation. Explain that professional-looking strikes, throws, electrical shocks and stunts are choreographed and dangerous to copy.
Final decision
Street Fighter (2026) is best treated as a mature-teen action movie. Under-13 viewers are usually poor candidates because of bloody fights, intense peril, strong profanity and sexualized material. Teenagers around 13 to 15 may be ready with a parent who knows their sensitivities, while older teens who are comfortable with PG-13 violence will often find the content manageable. The decisive question is not whether a child recognizes the game; it is how that child responds to blood, injury, language, nudity and frightening action.
