It can be, if the card is available near NVIDIA’s listed $549 starting price and you want its DLSS 4 features. For conventional 1440p rendering, however, TechSpot found the RTX 5070 just 1% faster than the RTX 4070 Super across its 16-game test suite. That small result makes the actual price, your current GPU, and whether you value Multi Frame Generation more important than the model number alone.
What the RTX 5070’s 1440p performance evidence says
In TechSpot’s 2025 review, the RTX 5070 averaged 1% faster than the RTX 4070 Super at 1440p across TechSpot’s specific 16-game suite. That indicates closely matched conventional raster performance in those tests; it is not a prediction for every game or an industry-wide average.

GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 5070 WINDFORCE OC SFF 12G Graphics Card, 12GB 192-bit GDDR7, PCIe 5.0,... | $929.84 | Buy on Amazon |
NVIDIA lists a $549 starting price on its product page, accessed October 3, 2026. That is an official listed starting price, not proof that a particular model is in stock or available at that price where you live. Compare the actual prices of the RTX 5070 and alternatives in your market before deciding. If the RTX 5070 costs substantially more than an RTX 4070 Super, TechSpot’s result gives little reason to pay extra for conventional raster performance alone.
NVIDIA’s March 5, 2025 launch article claimed up to a 20% boost in traditional raster performance over its previous-generation comparison. That is NVIDIA’s launch claim; it should not be confused with TechSpot’s independent 16-game comparison against the RTX 4070 Super.

DLSS 4 is the RTX 5070’s distinct feature case
NVIDIA lists DLSS 4 support, including Multi Frame Generation. These features can matter if you play games that support them and welcome the way generated frames affect the experience. Their value depends on game support and your preference; they are separate from the card’s conventional raster performance and do not change what TechSpot measured in its comparison.
Choose the RTX 5070 partly for DLSS 4 if those features fit the games you play. If you care primarily about conventional rendering performance, compare the actual model prices and the performance evidence rather than treating DLSS support as a guaranteed uplift in every game.
Check memory, power, and fit before buying
12 GB of GDDR7 memory
NVIDIA lists 12 GB of GDDR7 on a 192-bit memory interface. This capacity is worth considering for demanding games and a longer ownership horizon, but the available evidence does not establish a universal point at which 12 GB becomes insufficient. Your results will depend on the games and settings you use.
Power and system requirements
NVIDIA’s reference specifications list 250 W total graphics power and recommend a 650 W system power supply for a specified reference configuration. NVIDIA notes that power needs vary with system configuration. Check the exact card maker’s requirements and your complete system before deciding whether your power supply is adequate.

Case clearance and card dimensions
NVIDIA lists the Founders Edition at 242 mm long and two slots wide, but cautions that add-in-card specifications vary by manufacturer. Check the dimensions of the specific RTX 5070 model against your case clearance and cooling setup; do not assume every version matches the Founders Edition.
Quick Recap
Who should buy the RTX 5070?
- Consider it if its actual price is near NVIDIA’s listed starting price, you are moving from a much older graphics card, and DLSS 4 is useful to you. The older-card scenario is a buying consideration, not a promise of a particular performance increase.
- Compare alternatives carefully if you are choosing between an RTX 5070 and an RTX 4070 Super. In TechSpot’s 16-game 1440p suite, their conventional raster results were very close, so the price gap and your interest in DLSS 4 matter.
- Do not expect a meaningful raster upgrade if you already own an RTX 4070 Super. TechSpot’s test showed only a 1% average lead for the RTX 5070; it does not support expecting a substantial conventional-performance jump.
- Look beyond the headline price if local availability pushes the RTX 5070 well above NVIDIA’s listed starting price. The listed figure does not establish what you can actually buy in your region.
