Usually, yes—if you already own Ghost of Yōtei and will play Most Wanted as well as the story. The $14.99 US Complete Edition Upgrade adds a compact Echoes of Sekigahara campaign and a repeatable combat mode. If you want only a long, one-and-done story, the value is weaker and waiting for a sale is sensible.
What the $14.99 upgrade includes
The paid package is not just a short story chapter. It combines Echoes of Sekigahara, a narrative expansion, with Most Wanted, a replayable combat-survival mode. That distinction is the key to judging the price: one part is measured in a handful of hours, while the other is designed to be revisited.
Echoes of Sekigahara
Sucker Punch describes Echoes of Sekigahara as a new narrative expansion. Its story moves between the present and flashbacks to Atsu’s time on the mainland. The expansion adds Nagato, a previously unseen Ezo valley that was formerly occupied by the Vipers, and covers the Battle of Sekigahara.
The paid story content also adds new enemies, heavy weapons, armor sets, dyes and other equipment. The PlayStation Store listing separately identifies a new weapon type and a new area. Andrew Goldfarb, Senior Communications Manager at Sucker Punch Productions, called it “our new narrative expansion.”

Most Wanted
Most Wanted is Sucker Punch’s roguelike-inspired, single-player combat mode. You accept bounties, fight groups of enemies and bosses, choose perks during a run, and work toward additional characters, weapons and cosmetics. Its structure is deliberately repeatable rather than a sequence of extra story chapters.
The official description names Atsu, Oyuki, Nagato and Jin Sakai as playable characters in Most Wanted. Those characters and the unlock system give the mode a reason to be revisited after the narrative area is finished, but they should not be counted as separate campaigns.
How long is the Ghost of Yōtei DLC?
There is no publisher completion-time statistic in the reviewed PlayStation announcement or store listing. The clearest available estimate comes from Tom’s Guide’s Nikita Achanta, who reports that the Ashoro Foothills area and all of its side activities can be completed in under 10 hours.

Is a short story worth $14.99?
For an existing owner, $14.99 is a relatively small upgrade price, but the answer depends on what you do after the credits. Buying solely for a brief narrative can feel expensive if you expect a full-length sequel-sized campaign. Buying for a short story plus a mode you will replay is a stronger proposition.
When the upgrade makes sense
- You will play Most Wanted repeatedly. Bounties, waves, bosses, perk choices and unlocks are the main source of additional hours after the story area is complete.
- You want new equipment and encounters for a focused return to the game. Echoes of Sekigahara adds enemies, heavy weapons, armor sets, dyes and a new weapon type.
- You prefer a compact expansion. A sub-10-hour area with side activities can be useful when you want a finite weekend-sized experience rather than another very long open-world commitment.
- You already own the base game. The relevant comparison is the $14.99 upgrade, not the price of buying the entire package again.
When waiting for a sale is better
- You want only a substantial, one-and-done story. The available estimate is under 10 hours for the area and its side activities, and there is no official indication of a longer campaign.
- You do not enjoy repeatable combat modes. Most Wanted is built around runs, bounties, waves, bosses and unlocks; it is not a set of additional narrative chapters.
- You are sensitive to regional price changes. The cited $14.99 figure is the official US price for the Complete Edition Upgrade in 2026. Store pricing and sales vary by territory and date.
- You are still working through the base game. If your backlog already contains many hours of the main adventure, a discount later may make more sense than adding another purchase immediately.
How the paid content divides your time
The narrative portion
Echoes of Sekigahara is the part to choose when you want authored missions, a new setting and story context for Atsu. The present-day material is paired with flashbacks to her mainland past, while Nagato and the Battle of Sekigahara provide the expansion’s new historical and geographic framework.
Its additions are broader than a cosmetic pack: the area, enemies, heavy weapons, armor sets, dyes and weapon type all give the story portion new things to see and use. Nevertheless, the available length estimate remains compact. The expansion should be approached as a concentrated narrative detour, not as a second full campaign.

Most Wanted changes the value calculation because it does not end when one set of missions is complete. Each run revolves around accepting a bounty, surviving combat waves, making perk choices and confronting bosses. Unlocks for characters, weapons and cosmetics provide progression between attempts.

Every Ghost of Yōtei owner can access Ghost of Yōtei Legends without paying for Echoes of Sekigahara. PlayStation describes it as a separate free DLC offering two-player story missions, four-player survival matches, four classes and supernatural versions of the Yōtei Six.

Legends is a meaningful alternative if your priority is additional hours rather than the paid expansion’s story. Its focus is cooperative play, not another short solo narrative. Online multiplayer requires a PlayStation Plus subscription, so the DLC is free but online access may still involve that subscription requirement.
