What you get if you buy now
Slay the Spire 2 launched in Steam Early Access on March 5, 2026. It is a roguelike deckbuilder with new and returning characters, plus cards, relics, potions, enemies, events, environments, and mechanics. Mega Crit says it can be played solo or in co-op with up to four players. Mega Crit’s launch announcement describes the release and its play options.
The developer says the sequel already has more content than the first Slay the Spire had. That is Mega Crit’s comparison, not evidence that the sequel is complete or directly comparable to the finished original. The studio also plans to add and balance more content during Early Access. Co-op is for Steam friends, not public matchmaking
Online co-op is friends-only on Steam and has no matchmaking, according to the FAQ. If you want to join random players through an in-game matchmaking queue, do not buy on the assumption that this feature exists.

What is still planned—and when it might be finished
Mega Crit’s Steam Early Access information lists more gameplay content, a true ending, various game modes, balance improvements, bug fixes, broader hardware compatibility, visual effects, and additional languages among the work planned before the full release. There is no fixed 1.0 date. Mega Crit estimates that Early Access may last around one to two years, based partly on its experience with the first game; the studio says it will continue until the game feels great. Treat that as an estimate, not a release commitment. Mega Crit’s FAQ

A May 2026 developer newsletter said beta patches had moved from weekly to bi-weekly, while main-branch changes were also becoming less frequent so players could absorb updates and give feedback. That describes the cadence at that time, not a schedule guaranteed to hold in October 2026. Mega Crit’s Steam announcements
Price and platforms
Mega Crit’s FAQ lists the Early Access price as US$24.99 and says regional prices vary. Check the live Steam listing for your region rather than treating the US price as universal. The studio says the price will rise after Early Access. Mega Crit’s FAQ · Steam store page

The current Early Access release is listed for Steam on PC, macOS, and Linux. Mega Crit says the game is Steam Deck compatible. What the published run statistics tell you—and what they do not
In its May 2026 newsletter, Mega Crit reported 240 million runs, 60.5 million wins, and 179.5 million losses, figures it said were current when the newsletter was written. The same update reported a 16% win rate on Ascension 0, compared with 9% in Slay the Spire 1; at Ascension 10, it reported about 17%, versus 3% at Ascension 20 in the first game. Those difficulty levels are not equivalent, so the percentages are not a like-for-like comparison. Performance and bugs: check your setup before buying
No independent hardware benchmarks or comprehensive current bug list are established here, so there is no basis to promise that the game runs perfectly or is bug-free. If performance is a deciding factor, check recent reports from players using your device and the current Steam page before purchasing. The developer lists broader hardware compatibility and bug fixes as ongoing work.
