Yes—the reg-suit software is MIT-licensed, so a small web agency can use it commercially subject to the license terms. The repository does not list a subscription price. But that does not make the entire workflow free: screenshot generation, CI, external snapshot storage and optional integrations may have separate costs. The available sources do not establish an all-in monthly price for an agency in India.
What “free” means for reg-suit
reg-suit is a command-line tool for visual regression testing. It compares images, creates an HTML difference report and can publish snapshots to external storage. The project documents local and CI use and identifies the software as MIT-licensed. The reg-suit repository is the primary reference for its license and workflow.
- The software: The repository’s MIT license supports commercial use subject to its terms. It does not list a reg-suit subscription price.
- The surrounding workflow: Screenshot generation, CI capacity, storage and optional integrations are separate components. Their terms and charges depend on what your agency chooses.
For a specific client engagement, review the license text and seek appropriate legal advice if needed; this is a practical summary, not legal advice.
What an agency needs to budget for
Screenshot generation
reg-suit compares images you provide; your test or build setup must capture the pages. The project’s Puppeteer demo illustrates capturing a site screenshot before running reg-suit, but that demo’s dependencies are not universal requirements for reg-suit. See the Puppeteer demo.
#1 Best Overall
Snapshot storage
Snapshots can be stored externally. The project names Amazon S3 and Google Cloud Storage as examples. The storage provider may charge for storage, requests, retention or data transfer, depending on your usage and configuration; the project materials do not price a particular workload. Check the provider’s current terms and pricing for the region and retention you intend to use.
CI and integrations
reg-suit can run locally or in CI. Your CI provider’s included usage and charges are governed by its own plan, not by the reg-suit license. The project also lists notifier integrations, including GitHub and GitLab. Separately, the reg-suit GitHub App listing says the App is provided by a third party and is subject to separate terms, privacy policy and support documentation. Do not assume those terms are identical to the repository’s MIT license.

How to decide whether it fits a small agency
A practical reg-suit workflow has three parts: generate screenshots in your project’s test or build setup, compare them with expected snapshots, then optionally publish snapshots or reports and notify reviewers. The project’s documentation describes installation and a GitHub-oriented workflow; see the reg-suit documentation.
- Choose how to run it. Use a local workflow, CI, or both, based on how your team reviews visual changes and what CI usage you already have.
- Choose snapshot storage. Decide whether an external backend such as S3 or Google Cloud Storage fits your existing accounts, access controls, retention needs and client-data requirements.
- Calculate the full cost from your own inputs. Check current CI and storage pricing for your expected capture volume, stored snapshots, requests, retention and region. Add any optional integration costs only after checking their separate terms.
- Set client-data controls. Agree who owns the storage account, who can access snapshots, how long client material is retained and whether the selected service and region meet the client’s requirements.
There is not enough information in the project sources to state an India-specific monthly total, tax treatment or region-availability guarantee. A reliable estimate requires your project volume, retention policy, CI plan, storage region and current provider pricing.

Screenshot capture alternative: ScreenshotNeo
reg-suit is for comparing supplied images; if you need a screenshot capture API or an MCP server for AI agents as a separate part of the workflow, ScreenshotNeo is an option to consider. It accepts a URL in one GET request and can return a PNG, JPEG, WebP or PDF. This does not replace reg-suit’s image-comparison role.
Or skip the browser setup:
ScreenshotNeo can capture a URL with one request. Its clean-shot steps accept cookie or consent banners and remove more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups and chat widgets; each step can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits cost nothing, and response headers report the page verdict and billing status. An MCP server exposes take_screenshot, get_page_info and capture_pdf for AI agents and MCP clients.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for parameters and setup. It includes 1,000 screenshots a month free with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. Sign up for the free plan.
