The reported RTX 50 production cut is a rumor, not a confirmed NVIDIA announcement. A January–February 2026 report, citing two people said to have direct knowledge, claimed NVIDIA would reduce production of current GeForce RTX 5000 cards amid a memory shortage and prioritize AI products. The report gave no cut percentage or duration. NVIDIA said it continued shipping every GeForce SKU and was working with suppliers to maximize memory availability; that does not reveal production volumes or confirm that output was unchanged.
Is NVIDIA really cutting RTX 50 production?
TechRadar’s February 6, 2026 summary of reporting by The Information said two sources with direct knowledge expected NVIDIA not to release new GeForce gaming GPUs that year because of a RAM shortage, and said the company was “slashing production” of current RTX 5000 GPUs. The report did not quantify the alleged reduction or specify how long it would last. TechRadar’s report is an account of an anonymous-source claim, not an official production disclosure.
In a statement to Tom’s Hardware, NVIDIA said: “Demand for GeForce RTX GPUs is strong, and memory supply is constrained. We continue to ship all GeForce SKUs and are working closely with our suppliers to maximize memory availability.” The statement confirms the company described memory supply as constrained and said it was shipping all SKUs. It does not state how many cards it was producing. Shipping all models and reducing total output could both be true, so the statement neither verifies nor disproves the reported cut. Tom’s Hardware’s report and interview provide the statement’s attribution.
Did NVIDIA confirm RTX 50 production cuts?
No. The cited public material does not confirm a GeForce RTX 50-specific production reduction or a decision to divert a particular amount of memory or manufacturing capacity to AI products.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
NVIDIA’s Q2 fiscal 2027 Form 10-Q, for the quarter ended July 26, 2026, describes broader supply pressures. It says the scale and complexity of data-center system production have caused, and could cause, production delays and supply-and-demand challenges. The filing puts supply and capacity commitments at $279 billion as of July 26, 2026, up from $119 billion in the prior quarter, primarily for data-center infrastructure systems, memory and manufacturing facilities. Those are company-wide commitments, not evidence that GeForce output was cut. NVIDIA’s Form 10-Q does not identify a specific RTX 50 production change.
Why might AI products take priority when memory is constrained?
Memory is a required component across many products, and manufacturers facing constraints may have to choose how to allocate supply. At CES, Gigabyte CEO Eddie Lin described one possible approach: prioritizing GPU segments that generate more revenue per gigabyte of memory and reducing the share of segments with lower revenue per gigabyte. He was describing a potential allocation strategy, not confirming NVIDIA’s internal policy or its actions.

The scale of NVIDIA’s businesses helps explain why AI allocation is a topic of interest, but it does not prove a transfer of production from gaming GPUs. NVIDIA reported fiscal 2026 Gaming revenue of $16.0 billion, up 41% year over year, and Data Center revenue of $193.7 billion, up 68%. These are NVIDIA’s full-year segment figures; neither establishes how the company allocated constrained memory or manufacturing capacity. NVIDIA’s fiscal 2026 results provide the figures.
Which RTX 50 cards are affected?
The cited reports discuss the GeForce RTX 50 generation broadly and name the RTX 5060, RTX 5060 Ti with 8GB or 16GB, RTX 5070, RTX 5070 Ti, RTX 5080 and RTX 5090 in their model and inventory coverage. They do not establish that every listed model was cut, identify a confirmed affected model, or give a model-by-model production change. Inventory observations in those January and February 2026 reports are historical, not a live stock check.

Will RTX 50 cards be harder to find?
The reporting raises a possibility, but it cannot establish current or future availability in a particular location. Production plans, supply and retail inventory can change; the cited public statements provide no current stock count or model-level production data.
If you are buying, compare the specific card you want across local retailers: model, memory configuration, in-stock status and actual asking price. Do not assume a particular RTX 50 card is about to disappear—or that all models are affected—based on an unquantified rumor. The cited evidence does not support a reliable prediction of price changes or a specific shortage.
