No—the advertised free ebook promotion is not currently valid. BetaNews’ offer for Packt’s Multi-Cloud Handbook for Developers was a limited promotion that ended on July 10, 2024. Current publisher and distributor listings show paid access, so check those listings for the latest price or any new promotion.

What happened to the free offer?

BetaNews announced the promotion on June 26, 2024, describing the book as normally priced at $39.99 and free for a limited time. Its notice gave July 10, 2024 as the expiration date. Java Code Geeks also reported the deal in July 2024 as a “$39.99 Value” free ebook promotion. Those reports document a past offer, not an active download entitlement.

Because promotional pages can remain online after a deal ends, treat any page still promising a free copy as unverified unless Packt or an authorized distributor confirms a current promotion.

What the handbook covers

This is a practical guide to building and operating cloud-native applications across AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform and other providers. Its multi-cloud focus is about transferable architecture and operations practices, not a promise that every example works unchanged on every provider.

Application architecture

  • Microservices and 12-factor application principles
  • Distributed-application design and domain-driven design
  • API-first development strategies

Delivery and infrastructure

  • Infrastructure as code (IaC)
  • CI/CD pipelines, GitOps and broader DevOps practices
  • Docker containers and Kubernetes orchestration

Operations, data and governance

  • Cloud data concerns and platform integration
  • Security and compliance
  • Cloud-cost management
  • Troubleshooting and practical case studies

Long-term skills

The book also discusses future cloud skills, helping developers connect day-to-day implementation choices with the capabilities teams need as cloud platforms evolve.

Which edition or format should you choose?

Packt ebook

The Packt ebook is the lower-priced option in the current Packt listing at $37.79. It suits readers who prefer the publisher’s storefront and do not need a physical copy.

Paperback

The $51.99 Packt paperback is the choice for readers who annotate on paper or want a durable desk reference. Availability, delivery time and regional taxes are not fixed by the catalog price.

How to avoid expired or unauthorized downloads

  1. Check the listing date, edition and seller name before paying or downloading.
  2. Prefer Packt or an established distributor such as Leanpub rather than an unknown file-hosting page.
  3. Confirm that the product is the 2024, 292-page Multi-Cloud Handbook for Developers, not a similarly named course or summary.
  4. Be cautious of pages that still advertise “free” access without a current expiration date or publisher confirmation.

Who will benefit from it?

  • Developers moving applications between AWS, Azure and GCP
  • Engineers adopting containers, Kubernetes or infrastructure as code
  • Teams standardizing CI/CD and GitOps across several cloud providers
  • Practitioners who need one reference spanning architecture, security, compliance and cost controls

It is less suitable if you need a provider-specific certification textbook or a reference limited to one cloud’s proprietary services.
