No—Microsoft has not announced that it is removing Control Panel or set a date for its removal. Microsoft says Control Panel remains available for compatibility and for settings that have not yet moved to the Settings app. Its direction is clear, though: use Settings when possible, as Microsoft continues moving options over gradually.
What Microsoft has actually said
Microsoft Support’s System configuration tools in Windows guidance says Control Panel still exists for compatibility and to provide access to some settings that have not migrated. Microsoft recommends using Settings whenever possible.
That is a statement about an ongoing transition, not an announcement that the Control Panel app is scheduled to disappear. The cited Microsoft sources do not establish a removal date or say that every Control Panel function will move to Settings.
Why the Settings app keeps gaining options
Microsoft has been shifting Windows configuration options into Settings over time. In an October 16, 2025 Windows Experience Blog update, Microsoft described additional time, language, and keyboard settings moving from Control Panel to Settings. That dated example shows the migration continuing; it is not a complete inventory of what has moved or a promise that the transition is finished.

Keeping Control Panel available also supports compatibility and access to settings that have not migrated. Microsoft’s technical policy documentation still refers to both Control.exe and SystemSettings.exe, while explaining that policy can prevent them from starting. That describes policy behavior, not a plan to remove Control Panel from consumer Windows: ADMX_ControlPanel Policy CSP.
Is Control Panel deprecated or already gone?
Microsoft’s cited Windows client deprecated-features list does not list Control Panel itself as deprecated. Because the list can change, its current contents are useful context, not a guarantee about future Windows releases.

Microsoft’s removed-features documentation also says screen saver functionality in Group Policies, Control Panel, and Sysprep continues to work. This is a specific example of functionality persisting, not proof that every Control Panel tool will remain unchanged.
Microsoft announced planned Insider work to help people find settings in its May 6, 2025 Windows Experience Blog post. An announcement about work for Insider builds should not be treated as confirmation that a feature is generally available to all Windows users.

Where to look for a Windows setting
- Open the Windows Settings app and search for the setting by name. This is Microsoft’s recommended starting point.
- If the option is not there, or the task opens a legacy dialog, try Control Panel. Microsoft says it remains available for settings that have not migrated.
- If neither route matches what you see, check the Windows version and build. The location and availability of settings can change across releases and rollout stages.
Microsoft’s cited guidance supports this general approach, but it does not provide a complete setting-by-setting map of what remains in Control Panel. The exact route therefore depends on the Windows release and the specific task.

Expect Settings to remain Microsoft’s preferred interface and to gain more options as the migration continues. Do not assume that a particular Control Panel feature has moved until you find its equivalent in your version of Windows. Microsoft’s current guidance supports continued use of Control Panel for compatibility and unmigrated settings, but does not say when—or whether—every remaining function will be moved.
