Lukas Van Ness had no game designation on the Packers’ Week 4 injury report before Green Bay’s game against Tampa Bay, so he was listed as available. Green Bay reported a shoulder injury and limited participation at all three practices that week. That status does not amount to a separate declaration that he was fully healthy, and the reports cited here do not confirm whether he ultimately played.
What was Van Ness’s Week 4 status?
The Packers listed Van Ness as an EDGE with a shoulder injury and limited participation Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. He had no game-status designation on the team’s report. The NFL’s Week 4 report also recorded limited participation and no game-status designation, though it categorized him as an LB rather than an EDGE. Green Bay’s injury report and the NFL Week 4 injury report agree on the participation and designation.
What did “cleared” mean in this update?
CBS Sports reported on October 2 that Van Ness had no injury designation for the Packers’ Sunday road game against Tampa Bay. Its headline used “cleared,” but the official reports establish only his listed practice participation and lack of a game designation; they do not quote a team official declaring him fully healthy or medically cleared. CBS Sports’ Week 4 report says he tweaked his shoulder in Green Bay’s Week 3 loss to Atlanta and was limited at all three Week 4 practices.
Was this the same as his earlier concussion update?
No. In Week 2, the Packers said Van Ness had cleared concussion protocol and was removed from the injury report before the Jets game. That was an update about a concussion, separate from the Week 4 shoulder listing; it should not be treated as a medical clearance for the later issue.
