Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteNo. Logitech has not announced or launched a subscription mouse. CEO Hanneke Faber discussed a hypothetical, highly durable mouse that could remain useful through software or services, and answered “possibly” when asked whether a subscription model was conceivable. Logitech then said it had no plans for such a product.
What Logitech actually said
The story began with a 2024 Decoder interview in which Faber described a mouse intended to last for many years and stay current through software and services. When interviewer Nilay Patel asked whether she could envision a subscription mouse, Faber answered: “Possibly.”
That exchange described an idea, not a product announcement. On August 7, 2024, Logitech communications head Nicole Kenyon told media outlets, “There are no plans for a subscription mouse.” She added that the mouse was “not an actual or planned product” and characterized the discussion as exploratory thinking about more sustainable consumer electronics.
So the accurate answer to “Is Logitech making a subscription mouse?” is no—not on the evidence Logitech has publicly provided.

- Your hand can relax in comfort hour after hour with this ergonomically designed mouse. Its contoured shape with soft rubber grips, gently curved sides and broad palm area give you the support you need for effortless control all day long.
- You’ve got the control to do more, faster. Flipping through photo albums and Web pages is a breeze, especially for right-handers—with three standard buttons plus Back/Forward buttons that you can also program to switch applications, go full screen and more. And side-to-side scrolling plus zoom gives you the power to scroll horizontally and vertically through your music library, maps and Facebook feeds, and zoom in and out of photos and budget spreadsheets with a click.* * Requires Logitech SetPoint software (Windows) or Logitech Control Center software (Mac OS X)
- Two years of battery life practically eliminates the need to replace batteries. ** The On/Off switch helps conserve power, smart sleep mode extends battery life and an indicator light eliminates surprises. ** Battery life may vary based on user and computing conditions.
- The tiny Logitech Unifying receiver stays in your laptop. There’s no need to unplug it when you move around, so there’s less worry of it being lost. And you can easily add compatible wireless mice and keyboards to the same wireless receiver.
Why people called it a “forever mouse”
The phrase “forever mouse” came to represent the durability concept: a physical mouse designed to remain useful for an unusually long time instead of being replaced when a battery, switch or other component fails. The concept had three separate elements:
- Durability: keeping the mouse in service for many years.
- Repairability and refurbishment: replacing worn parts or restoring the device rather than discarding it.
- Ongoing software or services: maintaining or expanding functionality over time, potentially through recurring payments.
Only the third element led directly to the subscription headline. The sources do not establish a price, billing schedule, launch date, product name or purchasable model.

How Faber later reframed the idea
In a November 26, 2025 Fortune interview, Faber said the idea “was not very well received by the Reddit community” and that she “didn’t really mean a forever mouse.” She said the point she wanted to emphasize was durability, along with repair and reuse.
Faber also said Logitech had been investing in replaceable parts and working with iFixit so that a mouse that stopped working after about 10 years could be fixed and given “another new life.” That describes a repairability direction, not a subscription commitment.

In a later 2025 Fast Company interview, she said: “I never used the word subscription. And it’s not an actual plan.” That is her later characterization. It does not erase the earlier Decoder exchange, where a direct subscription question received the answer “Possibly.” Both statements matter: the subscription idea was entertained in conversation, then disclaimed as an actual plan.
Hypothetical concept versus Logitech’s public plans
| Question | Hypothetical “forever mouse” discussion | Logitech’s stated public position |
|---|---|---|
| Is it a product customers can buy? | No named or purchasable model was established. | Logitech said the discussed mouse was not an actual or planned product. |
| Was a subscription model confirmed? | Faber said “Possibly” when asked whether she could envision one. | Logitech said there were no plans for a subscription mouse. |
| What problem was the idea intended to address? | Long service life, updated software or services, and less replacement waste. | Faber later emphasized durability, repairability, replaceable parts and refurbishment. |
| Were price and terms announced? | Not stated. | Not stated, because no product plan was announced. |
Does the backlash prove consumers rejected it?
Faber described the idea as poorly received by Reddit, but the cited coverage does not provide a representative survey, sample size or numerical measure of consumer sentiment. Online reactions and an executive’s characterization should not be treated as a quantified public vote.

- Click more. Scroll more. Do more. Logitech Marathon Mouse M705 uses far less power than comparable wireless mice from other companies. That means you can go up to three full years between battery changes.*
- Hyper-fast scrolling lets you fly through long documents and Web pages with a single spin of a nearly frictionless metal scroll wheel.
- The sculpted, right-hand shape guides your hand to a naturally comfortable position and places customizable control within your reach. Two thumb buttons lets you move quickly between Web pages.**
- The tiny Logitech Unifying receiver stays in your laptop. There's no need to unplug it when you move around, so there's less worry of it being broken or lost. And you can easily add compatible wireless mice and keyboards to the same wireless receiver.
- Laser grade tracking delivers smooth, responsive, precise cursor control on surfaces that cause problems for standard optical mice, such as polished or wood-grain tables.***
The more defensible interpretation is that the subscription angle created a strong negative reaction among at least some online commenters, while Logitech publicly distanced itself from turning the concept into a product.

Existing mice remain ordinary physical products
Logitech’s current mouse category is made up of physical devices. Nothing in the cited statements supports describing an existing Logitech model as the proposed subscription mouse.

- Easy Navigation, Precise Control: Logitech M317 wireless mouse features line-by-line scrolling and smooth optical tracking for accurate cursor control on most surfaces
- Long-lasting Battery Life: This cordless computer mouse can last for a whole year without having to change the batteries (1)
- Comfortable, Compact Design: With soft rubber grips and contoured shape, this computer mouse feels comfortable in either your right or left hand
- Plug and Play Simplicity: Just plug the USB receiver into your laptop or PC and start working in seconds; the receiver provides a strong, reliable wireless connection within up to 33 feet (3)
- Versatile and Compact: This small and portable external mouse is compatible with Windows, macOS, Chrome OS and Linux, and the compact size and shape fits easily in your laptop case or in a bag
Repairability is a separate question
Faber’s comments about replaceable parts and work with iFixit point to repair and refurbishment efforts. They do not establish which models support repairs, whether parts are currently sold for a particular mouse, or how long compatibility will last. Check Logitech’s and iFixit’s current documentation for the exact model before buying parts or attempting a repair.
No subscription terms exist to evaluate
Because Logitech has not announced a subscription mouse, there is no verified monthly fee, software feature list, cancellation policy, required account or service-level promise to compare.
The bottom line on the “corporate suicide” claim
“Corporate suicide” is opinionated framing, not an established fact. Logitech’s CEO floated a provocative sustainability and service concept, answered that a subscription mouse was possible when asked, and later said it was not an actual plan. Logitech’s formal clarification was that it had no plans for a subscription mouse. The concrete direction Faber ultimately emphasized was longer-lasting hardware that can be repaired, refurbished and fitted with replaceable parts.
