Yes—Hideo Kojima’s cameo in Cyberpunk 2077 is missable. It appears only during the optional exploration portion of The Heist at Konpeki Plaza. When the game asks whether you want to go straight to the room or look around, choose “Gonna have a look around.” Then enter the lobby bar and walk toward the rear booth area to meet the NPC named Oshima.
If you take the direct route to the room, the opportunity can pass without the encounter. The cameo has no reported reward or later story branch, but the guides covering it do not document a repeatable location after The Heist, so a pre-mission save is the practical way to try again.
Quick answer
- Mission: The Heist.
- Location: Konpeki Plaza’s lobby bar, near the rear booths.
- Required choice: Select “Gonna have a look around” instead of going directly to the room.
- Cameo NPC: Oshima.
- Build requirements: None reported for lifepath, attributes, level, relationships or combat ability.
- Reward: No quest reward or branching consequence is reported; it is an optional conversation scene.
The mission gate and the exploration choice are the important parts. You do not need a particular V lifepath, cyberware setup or character level.
When and where the cameo appears
The mission gate is The Heist
You reach the cameo during The Heist, the main-story operation at Konpeki Plaza with Jackie. PowerPyx lists The Pickup and The Information as prerequisites for The Heist. If that mission has not appeared yet, Oshima will not be available because the hotel sequence has not begun.

The exact area is the hotel lobby bar
After entering Konpeki Plaza and completing the reception and security interaction, you and Jackie are directed toward the suite. Before taking the direct route, the game gives you an opportunity to explore. The cameo is in the lobby’s bar or restaurant area, not in the suite itself.
From the lobby entrance, move toward the bar and continue toward the back booth section. Game Informer’s route description places Oshima before the main bar, while Pro Game Guides also directs players toward the rear booths. If you reach the elevator or proceed to the room without checking this area, you have likely gone past the optional scene.
Step-by-step route to Oshima
- Complete the prerequisites. Finish The Pickup and The Information, then continue the main story until The Heist starts.
- Enter Konpeki Plaza with Jackie. Follow the mission’s reception and security sequence normally.
- Stop at the route prompt. When the game offers the choice between proceeding to the room and looking around, select “Gonna have a look around.”
- Stay in the lobby. Do not immediately take the elevator or follow the most direct objective marker to the suite.
- Find the bar and restaurant area. Walk past the lobby entrance toward the bar, then angle toward the rear booth area. The relevant booth is away from the main objective route.
- Approach Oshima. He is seated with other attendees. Let his opening conversation play, then interact when the prompt appears.
- Resume the mission. After the short exchange, continue toward the room and complete The Heist as usual.
The encounter is an exploration detour, not a separate side quest. There is no additional objective chain to unlock after speaking with him.

Which choice should you make at Konpeki Plaza?
| Choice | What it does | Effect on the cameo | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| “Gonna have a look around” | Keeps you in the lobby so you can inspect the optional bar area before continuing. | Preserves access to Oshima during The Heist. | Players who want optional scenes, lore or celebrity cameos. |
| Go directly to the room | Advances the hotel sequence along the main objective route. | Can bypass the lobby-bar encounter. | Players making a spoiler-light, direct run through the mission. |
The exploration option adds only a short detour before the mission continues. Choosing it does not create a reported failure state for The Heist, and the cameo does not alter the mission’s later outcome according to the guides covering the scene.

Who is Oshima?
Oshima is the name used for the cameo character in the game. He is seated in a booth with other guests and discusses films, games and creative work. The scene is designed as a brief ambient conversation rather than a conventional quest interaction.
Game Informer describes Oshima talking about wanting his productions to convey real, raw human emotion. You can listen to the opening exchange and then interact with him for the short conversation. The scene does not provide a reported weapon, item, experience award, mission branch or later companion interaction.
Requirements: what you do and do not need
| Requirement | Needed? | Practical meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Reach The Heist | Yes | The cameo is placed inside the Konpeki Plaza mission. |
| Complete The Pickup and The Information | Yes, as prerequisites for The Heist | Progress through those main-story missions first. |
| Select the exploration option | Yes | Choose “Gonna have a look around” when prompted. |
| Specific lifepath | No requirement reported | Nomad, Streetkid and Corpo characters can use the same route. |
| Attribute, level or relationship threshold | No requirement reported | The scene is gated by mission progress and exploration, not character build. |
| Combat or equipment condition | No requirement reported | You do not need a particular weapon, cyberware setup or skill check. |
Because this is an environmental conversation, changing your build will not make the encounter appear. If Oshima is absent, check the mission and route conditions first.

The Heist gives the player a strong reason to follow the objective marker. The story is moving toward a scheduled meeting, and the hotel’s layout naturally funnels you toward the elevator and suite. Oshima is positioned away from that route, in a social area that can look like background scenery.

The choice prompt is therefore the real missable gate. Selecting the direct option removes the reason to search the lobby, while selecting the exploration option leaves the bar available before you continue. The game does not mark Oshima with a separate side-quest icon or a major objective banner.
Can you return after The Heist?
The guides covering the cameo describe it as available during The Heist and do not document a later repeatable location for Oshima. That means you should treat the scene as missable for the current playthrough rather than assuming Konpeki Plaza will remain a reliable revisit point.
If you completed the mission without speaking to him, load a save from before the Konpeki Plaza sequence or before the exploration choice. If no such save exists, the available guidance does not establish a confirmed post-mission method for triggering the conversation again.

You went straight to the room
This is the most likely explanation. Reload a save from before the choice and select “Gonna have a look around.” Continuing from an autosave made after you took the direct route may not restore the optional encounter.
You are searching the wrong floor or room
Oshima is in the Konpeki Plaza lobby bar or restaurant area, near the rear booths. He is not in the suite, the elevator, or a later section of the operation.

You have not started The Heist
The cameo does not appear during earlier missions such as The Pickup or The Information. Continue the main story until the Konpeki Plaza operation begins.
You are looking for a named quest marker
Oshima is an optional conversation NPC, not a separate mission giver. Search the booth area while exploring the lobby instead of waiting for a new quest icon.
You are wondering whether your character build blocks it
No consulted guide reports a lifepath, stat, level, relationship or combat requirement. Rechecking the mission gate and the exploration choice is more useful than changing attributes or equipment.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.A spoiler-light plan for first-time players
- Make a manual save before entering Konpeki Plaza or before the lobby choice.
- Follow the reception and security scenes with Jackie.
- Choose “Gonna have a look around.”
- Search the lobby bar and rear booths before taking the elevator.
- Listen to Oshima’s opening dialogue and interact with him.
- Return to the main objective and continue the mission.
This approach reveals the cameo without requiring knowledge of later events in The Heist. The scene itself is short and does not expose a separate ending or reward path.

Does seeing Oshima change the story?
No story change or branching consequence is reported for the conversation. It is best understood as a developer cameo embedded in Konpeki Plaza’s optional ambient content. Speaking with Oshima does not replace a main objective, unlock a different mission ending or alter the reported progression of The Heist.
Its value is the scene itself: a brief conversation about creative work that rewards players who inspect the hotel instead of moving immediately to the suite.

Bottom line for completionists
Save before The Heist, choose “Gonna have a look around,” and search the Konpeki Plaza lobby bar’s rear booth area. Oshima is the in-game cameo NPC, and the encounter is optional, has no reported special build requirement and may not be available again after the mission. If you miss him, use a pre-Heist save rather than relying on a later return.
