Google has not confirmed that it plans to remove Safety Signal from Pixel Watch 2 or Pixel Watch 3. Google’s current support pages still describe the service and its eligibility rules, but do not announce a shutdown or timeline. Safety Signal is the LTE connectivity layer for certain safety functions on eligible watches—not the safety features themselves.

What Safety Signal does—and what it does not do

Google describes Safety Signal as a Google Health Premium subscription service that provides LTE connectivity for safety functions on compatible watches. It can support calls to and from emergency contacts, Safety Check, Emergency Sharing, Emergency SOS, and Fall Detection when the wearer is away from their phone and has no carrier plan on the watch. Google’s Safety Signal support page explains the service and its conditions.

Safety Signal is separate from Emergency SOS, Fall Detection, Safety Check, and Emergency Sharing. Those are individual features with their own requirements and limitations. Removing or changing the connectivity service would not, by itself, mean Google had removed those features from the watch; the practical effect would depend on what connection remained available.

Who can use Safety Signal now?

Google lists Safety Signal for LTE versions of Pixel Watch 2 and Pixel Watch 3. It is not available on Wi-Fi models, and it requires Google Health Premium. Google lists the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Germany as supported regions, with roaming between the US and Canada and between the UK and Germany.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
  • AT&T and Verizon purchases: Google says Safety Signal is unavailable on new Pixel Watch 2 and 3 purchased from AT&T or Verizon. It also says the service is unavailable on previously purchased Pixel Watch 2 from those carriers if Safety Signal was not activated.
  • Existing watch carrier service: If the watch already has carrier service, that connection supports emergency calls away from the phone; Google says Safety Signal is not needed in that setup.
  • Phone-connected Wi-Fi models: A Wi-Fi Pixel Watch depends on a nearby phone connected over Bluetooth for emergency calls, according to Google’s emergency-feature guidance.

Availability depends on the exact model, region, purchase channel, subscription, and connection—not just the watch’s name.

What happens to emergency calling without Safety Signal?

Google says an LTE Pixel Watch can call emergency services without a phone, but it needs an active LTE connection. A watch with a carrier plan can use that service; eligible LTE Pixel Watch 2 and 3 owners without a carrier watch line may use Safety Signal under Google’s stated conditions. Google also notes that certain regions require an active LTE carrier plan or Safety Signal for emergency calls from a watch.

For a Wi-Fi model, the paired phone must be nearby and connected through Bluetooth. So if Safety Signal were ever discontinued, the consequences would vary: a watch with its own active carrier service would still have that connection, while a Wi-Fi model’s calling path remains phone-dependent. The official pages cited here do not say that such a discontinuation is happening.

Important limits on safety features

Connectivity does not guarantee that every safety function will work in every circumstance. Google says location must be enabled for Safety Signal’s safety services. It also warns that Safety Check and related emergency services depend on connectivity and other factors and may not be reliable or available in every country or language. Fall Detection may not detect every fall and has age and regional restrictions. These features should be treated as a possible aid, not a substitute for reliable access to emergency services.

What Pixel Watch owners should check

  1. Confirm the watch model and connection: Check whether it is a Pixel Watch 2 or 3 LTE model, rather than a Wi-Fi model.
  2. Check the service setup: Determine whether the watch has an active carrier plan or relies on Safety Signal, and whether Google Health Premium is active.
  3. Check region and purchase history: Compare your country and carrier purchase details with Google’s Safety Signal eligibility rules, including the AT&T and Verizon exclusions.
  4. Review Google’s current support pages: The current documentation describes Safety Signal and emergency calling but does not announce a removal date or decision. If Google changes availability, the support page is the place to look for updated terms.

Google’s Pixel Watch 2 product page provides model context, while the Safety Signal support page is the relevant source for current service eligibility.
