For players who want squad-based cover shooting, co-op, and Xbox or PC access, Gears of War: E-Day is the better fit; for players who want a solo-focused Wolverine adventure built around melee combat and stealth, Marvel’s Wolverine is the better fit. They are different kinds of games, so “better” comes down to what you want to play and which system you own. My preference is E-Day for its range of ways to play, but that is a taste-based verdict—not an objective quality ranking.
How do the games play?
The biggest difference is the combat fantasy. Xbox describes E-Day as a third-person cover shooter: Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago fight the Locust as the threat first emerges. Sony presents Wolverine as an action-adventure built around visceral close-range combat, stealth, and Logan’s heightened senses.

Choose E-Day if you enjoy using cover and fighting alongside a squad. Choose Wolverine if you would rather get up close as Logan and mix melee combat with stealth. Neither premise makes one game universally better; they serve different preferences.
Which game gives you more ways to play with others?
Gears of War: E-Day
Xbox says E-Day’s campaign can be played solo, in two-player split-screen on console, or online with up to four players. Xbox also lists Horde Siege PvE and Versus PvP, giving players options beyond the campaign. Xbox Play Anywhere and shared progression are described on the Xbox listing.

Marvel’s Wolverine
Sony’s release announcement focuses on Wolverine’s story and combat and does not establish detailed multiplayer options. That announcement is not a complete feature audit, so it is not enough to make broader claims about every mode or feature in the game.
If playing with friends or switching among co-op, PvE, and PvP is central to your choice, E-Day has the clearer fit based on the published features.

How do their stories differ?
E-Day is a prequel set fourteen years before the original Gears of War. It follows young Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago as the Locust Horde first emerges, putting the friendship between the two characters at the center of the crisis.
Wolverine tells an original story in which Logan searches for answers about his past. Sony describes locations inspired by the Canadian wilderness, Tokyo, and Madripoor. Pick E-Day for the origins of the Locust conflict and Marcus and Dom’s early story; pick Wolverine for a new Logan adventure focused on his identity and history.

Start with the hardware you already own. E-Day is the practical choice for Xbox Series X|S and PC owners, while Wolverine requires a PS5 according to Sony’s announcement. If you want E-Day on a subscription rather than buying it outright, check the current terms for the relevant Game Pass plan; Xbox’s access and price details are listing information that can change.

Xbox’s US listing gives E-Day’s Standard Edition at $69.99 and Premium Edition at $99.99, with a $30 Premium upgrade for players who already own Standard. These are US listing prices, not a price comparison with Wolverine; prices and subscription terms can change. The cited Xbox listing does not establish Wolverine’s price.
So, which one should you choose?
- Choose E-Day if you want cover shooting, a Marcus-and-Dom prequel, campaign co-op, or its listed Horde Siege and Versus modes—and especially if you play on Xbox or PC.
- Choose Wolverine if you want a Logan-led action-adventure centered on melee combat, stealth, and a story about his past, and you have a PS5.
- My pick is E-Day for its cooperative campaign options and multiple listed modes. That preference makes sense for players who value variety and shared play; it does not prove E-Day is the better-made game.
The official announcements establish different platforms, premises, and play styles, but offer no comparative quality metric that settles which game is objectively better.
