Short answer: DIEATHLON is not yet a dependable Steam Deck recommendation. Steam currently marks its Deck compatibility as Unknown, the game is unreleased with a Q4 2026 window, and early demo reports range from about 5 frames per second to roughly 30 fps with lag spikes. Controller support is listed, but Deck-specific layouts, menu access and performance have not received a final Valve review.
You may be able to launch an available demo build, but that experience should be treated as provisional. The final answer depends on the release build, its Proton behavior and Valve’s eventual Verified, Playable or Unsupported badge.
Current Steam Deck verdict
DIEATHLON is an unreleased single-player action/racing game from Long Void Games, published by Loopr Partners. The Steam store currently says, “This game is not yet available on Steam,” and lists a Q4 2026 release window. Its Steam Deck Compatibility field is Unknown.
Unknown does not mean that the game fails on Steam Deck. Valve uses it when a title has not yet been checked against its Deck compatibility process. It is therefore an absence of a result, not a performance rating. Until the listing receives a final badge and players test the launch build, no one can honestly promise a stable frame rate, correct controls or acceptable battery life.

What Valve’s compatibility labels actually tell you
Valve’s labels separate the question “will this launch?” from the more useful question “does it work properly with the handheld’s built-in controls and screen?” The four public outcomes are:
Verified
Verified means Valve considers the game a good out-of-the-box experience. Its review checks physical controls, the default configuration, controller glyphs, readable text, compatibility warnings and other usability details.
Playable
Playable means the game works, but you may need a manual adjustment such as opening an on-screen keyboard, selecting a community layout or changing a setting. It is not automatically a poor performer; it signals that some intervention is expected.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsUnsupported
Unsupported means the title is currently not functional on Deck according to Valve’s testing. A later game update can change that status, but the badge warns against assuming a workable experience.
Unknown
Unknown means the title has not been checked. DIEATHLON is in this category, so the badge provides no evidence for or against a 30-fps experience.

Valve’s detailed checklist includes support for all physical controls, a default configuration that reaches the game’s content, correct controller glyphs, a default experience playable at 30 fps and 800p, no compatibility warnings and Proton support where a Windows build needs it. A future badge will be more informative than today’s store-page controller claim because it evaluates those conditions together.
What performance reports show so far
Available reports come from changing demo or development builds rather than a final release. They conflict substantially, so they should be read as snapshots, not as a benchmark.
May 2026: approximately 5 fps in a demo
In a May 2026 Steam Deck player discussion, the game was reported to run at about 5 fps. The player also noted that the build initially lacked a resolution option. In the same discussion, the developer said Deck support had not yet been implemented because the team did not own a Deck, then reported adding resolution options.
This report indicates that early optimization and configuration work were still in progress. It does not establish how the current build performs, and it should not be used to predict launch performance.
October 2026: around 30 fps, with spikes reported
A later October 2026 community report described the in-development game as running at a fairly consistent 30 fps on Steam Deck. Other recent comments mentioned lag spikes during fast downhill sections. Those observations may reflect newer code, different settings or different hardware and operating-system states.

Because the reports were not controlled tests, they do not provide a repeatable frame-time result. There is no published capture showing sustained frame pacing, no confirmed graphics preset, and no test that isolates demanding downhill scenes. Racing games can feel uneven even when an average counter says 30 fps, so the spikes matter more than the headline number.

- No final-build Steam Deck benchmark is published.
- No repeatable frame-time or 1% low measurement is available.
- No battery-life test identifies expected play time or power draw.
- No confirmed Deck graphics preset or resolution-scaling recommendation exists.
- No guarantee covers the final Q4 2026 build.
Does DIEATHLON support Steam Deck controls?
The store page lists Full Controller Support and Xbox Controllers. That is useful evidence that the game accepts a gamepad, but it is not the same as confirmation that every Deck control works correctly.
A proper Deck control experience needs more than movement and steering. The game should expose a usable default mapping for both sticks, triggers, bumpers, face buttons, d-pad, menu navigation and any actions needed during races. Text-entry screens should work with the Deck’s on-screen keyboard or provide an alternative. Prompts should show the correct button symbols rather than keyboard-only instructions, and menus should be reachable without switching to a trackpad or touchscreen workaround.
None of those details has been independently verified for DIEATHLON. The controller listing also does not prove that the game detects the Deck as an Xbox-style controller in every Proton configuration, or that a custom layout will preserve analog sensitivity for racing. Until testing is available, assume that basic gamepad input is intended but Deck ergonomics remain unconfirmed.
Can you play the DIEATHLON demo on a Steam Deck?
A May 2026 player report demonstrates that a demo build was being run on Steam Deck at that time. That does not establish that the demo is still downloadable, that it is available in every region or that its files match the current development build. Check the game’s Steam page for an active demo button or playtest invitation; if neither appears, there may be no public Deck-accessible build at the moment.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
If you do obtain the demo, treat it as a compatibility experiment rather than a purchase decision. A demo can use different assets, settings, anti-cheat components or optimization work from the final game. Its performance can improve dramatically, as the change from the May report to the October report suggests, but it can also regress while features are added.
Published PC requirements and what they imply
Steam lists the following provisional Windows minimums. The publisher states that final specifications will be confirmed closer to release.
| Requirement | Provisional minimum | Deck relevance |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | 64-bit Windows 10 | Steam Deck runs a Linux-based system, so the Windows build relies on Proton compatibility. |
| Processor | Intel Core i5-8600 or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 | These desktop CPUs are not a direct performance comparison with the Deck’s custom processor; the listed requirement alone cannot predict frame rate. |
| Memory | 4 GB RAM | The number is modest, but total system memory is shared between the game and integrated graphics on Deck. |
| Graphics | NVIDIA GTX 1060 or AMD RX 570 | These are discrete PC GPUs. Their names do not translate directly into a Deck preset or resolution target. |
| Graphics API | DirectX 12 | Proton must translate the Windows graphics calls; shader compilation and driver behavior can affect stutter. |
| Storage | 4 GB | The stated install size is small, but updates and shader data require additional free space. |
Do not read the minimums as a promise that the game will run at 800p or 30 fps on Deck. They are provisional Windows specifications, and the Deck’s hardware, operating system and translation layer create a different workload.
How to evaluate the demo or launch build yourself
When a build is available, use a repeatable check instead of relying on a single first impression.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Install the current build. Open the DIEATHLON page in your Steam Library and check the build number or update date before testing. Record whether you are testing a demo, playtest or full release.
- Use the default controller layout first. Start without a community configuration. Confirm that steering, acceleration, braking, camera control, menus and pause functions work from the built-in controls.
- Check display options. Look for resolution, window mode, frame-rate limit, texture quality, shadows, effects and resolution scaling. The May 2026 report specifically noted that a resolution option was initially missing, so verify that it is present in your build.
- Choose a consistent test route. Drive the same course or downhill section for several minutes. Record the frame-rate counter and note stutter when loading, turning quickly or entering effects-heavy areas.
- Test suspend and resume. Put the Deck to sleep, resume the game and return to a race. A title that runs once but loses input or audio after resume is not a reliable handheld experience.
- Check text and prompts. Confirm that menus are readable at the Deck’s native display resolution and that button glyphs match the physical controls.
- Monitor power behavior. Compare battery drain over the same route and brightness setting. This is only a personal observation until repeatable battery testing exists, but unusually high draw can explain short sessions.
Troubleshooting a poor demo result
Very low frame rate
Confirm that the game is using the latest build, then lower resolution and expensive effects if those controls exist. Restart after changing graphics settings so shaders and pipelines can rebuild cleanly. If the game remains near the 5-fps behavior reported in May 2026, treat the build as not ready for Deck rather than assuming a hidden setting will fix it.

- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
Short freezes or downhill stutter
Repeat the same section after a restart and note whether the pauses occur at identical locations. Consistent pauses can indicate shader compilation or asset streaming; random spikes may point to broader frame-pacing or CPU limits. A frame cap can smooth delivery when the game cannot hold a higher rate, but it cannot remove a severe hitch.
Missing or incorrect controls
Return to the official layout, verify that Steam Input is enabled for the game and test each menu before creating a custom profile. If the game only works with a trackpad or keyboard commands, record that limitation; it is relevant to the eventual Playable or Verified assessment.
Launch, Proton or display problems
Try the game’s default compatibility setting first and keep the test reproducible. Changing Proton versions can be useful for diagnosis, but a workaround that depends on an unlisted version is not evidence of out-of-the-box support. Report the build, operating-system version and compatibility setting with any issue so developers can reproduce it.

What to look for before buying at release
Recheck the Steam page near the Q4 2026 launch window. The most useful evidence will be:
- A final Valve badge rather than Unknown.
- Sustained frame rate and frame pacing measured on the release build.
- Performance during high-speed downhill sections, not only menus or quiet tracks.
- Working resolution and scaling controls with a sensible Deck preset.
- Correct button glyphs and complete navigation using physical controls.
- Reports on shader compilation, Proton fixes and resume-from-sleep behavior.
- Battery draw measured over a defined brightness, volume and frame-cap setup.
Independent reports should identify the game version and settings. A single “30 fps” comment is much less useful than a test that states whether 30 fps is sustained, whether spikes occur and which course was driven.
Should you buy or wait?
Wait if your purchase depends on a dependable handheld experience today. The official status is Unknown, the game is unreleased, and the available performance evidence spans an unusable 5-fps report and a later approximately 30-fps report with alleged spikes. That spread is exactly what you would expect from an unfinished project, not from a settled compatibility profile.
Trying a free demo can make sense if you are comfortable testing development software and reporting issues. For a paid purchase, wait until the final build is available, the badge is updated and post-launch users have checked demanding race sections, controls and suspend/resume behavior. A Steam Deck can eventually run DIEATHLON well, but the evidence available on October 19, 2026 is not strong enough to call it Verified, guarantee 30 fps or estimate battery runtime.
